My husband and I are not JWs, but we did a "study" with a JW couple for about 6 months. Just to see what they were all about. We are avid Bible-believing, non-denominational Christians. To make a long story short, after 6 months of questions that they could not answer, they were told not to continue trying to indctrinate us. We are, however, still friends. One day, we took some morel mushrooms over, because we knew the gentleman would not have time to get out and look for any, and he expressed how much he enjoyed them. We had never been to their home before. His JW mother-in-law invited us in and he was running late for a meeting. She insisted on showing us around her house and wanted to continue talking to us, etc... He seemed a little uncomfortable. I don't know if he felt like he could not leave until we were gone, or what. He acts like he would like to talk to my husband sometime, but just doesn't know how to get away to do it. His wife talks a mile a minute, unless we go out to dinner as friends. Then she slows down and they never mention "Jehovah" at all. It is like the authentic people are finally there! I really love the "real" people they are at that time. But they seem so phony with the "JW" face. They seem to be in a rapid panic. The man is a little more honest than the woman, I noticed. They do not seem very happy. They appear to be over-worked and stressed out. I pray that one day they will find the freedom and peace that is in Jesus. The real Jesus.

Things that still haunt you......
by whyizit ini heard a former jw lady give a talk and she said that even after leaving the wts and being a born-again christian for over 15 years, sometimes when she drives through certain neighborhoods that remind her of the homes that she used to have to go door-to-door at, she gets this pain in the pit of her stomach and that she had panic attacks for many years after.. she also said that one of her jw friends periodically calls her crying and begging her to give up her life of partying and running the bars, and come back to the jws.
she tries to explain that she doesn't do those things, but her friend just can't grasp that she left and is still a moral person who loves jehovah.. do any of you have similar experiences?
what were some of your biggest struggles?

Do the JWs believe that the great tribulation is happening now?
by whyizit ini just wondered about this, because in rev.
7:9, it speaks of the great crowd and in verse 14 and says that these are the ones that came out of the great tribulation.
verse 15 further states that they are before the throne of god, serving him day and night in his temple.

I just wondered about this, because in Rev. 7:9, it speaks of the great crowd and in verse 14 and says that these are the ones that came out of the great tribulation. Verse 15 further states that they are before the throne of God, serving Him day and night in His temple. Since they are "in" His temple, and God's temple is in heaven, and Rev. 19:1 further states that the great crowd is in heaven, I just wonder how the JWs conclude that this great crowd is going to be on earth, when the Bible specifically says they are in heaven? Do JWs believe that the great tribulation is happening right now?
Also, I have never heard anything about the JWs beliefs about the rapture? Do they believe in the rapture?
I am not a JW, but am curious about some of the teachings and how they come up with some of the beliefs that seem very strange to me. I cannot find Biblical evidence to support such doctrines, such as Jesus and Michael being one and the same. They have man-written books that go into great detail to try to prove such things, but no Scriptural evidence to support it. It would take a great stretch of the imagination for me to conclude such a thing from reading the Bible alone. Jesus is Jesus right up to the last sentence in the Bible. Never is He referred to as MIchael. Where did this teaching originate?

A JW MISCONCEPTION:
by whyizit inthat is why there is a baptist church here, and a lutheran church there....etc..... i belong to a community church that is non-denominational, and this belief is just not true.
many of the area churches, including our's, participate with and encourage each other.
we do not hate each other at all.

Reminds me of Matt. 15 and the Pharisees nit-picking about "washing their hands".Matt. 15:19-20 sums up what is REALLY important.
I appreciate all the in-put. Thanks!
I just wonder, though....how can these verses be mis-applied? They say exactly what they say. Jehovah made it clear and it is not confusing. How does someone read them and not "get it"? Do JWs ever just read the Bible in context, the Bible alone?

My JW friends (I am not a JW, never have been) all seem to be under the assumption that all other churches do not like each other. They don't get along. That is why there is a Baptist church here, and a Lutheran church there....etc....
I belong to a community church that is non-denominational, and this belief is just not true. Many of the area churches, including our's, participate with and encourage each other. We do not hate each other at all. Quite the contrary. I NEVER hear any of the pastors bad-mouthing each other, either.
My JW friends CONSTANTLY bad-mouth and make fun of other denominations. They claim that all these other churches want is your money. Not true!!! Our church does not pass a collection plate. Money is rarely ever mentioned. They do, however, give us a periodical accounting of how much money has been received and where it all went. (Church expenses, missionaries, local charities, etc...) When I asked for this info. from my JW friends, they came up empty handed. Where is all the WTS money going???? Don't they give an accounting to the people of where all this money is going? I heard they are VERY well-to-do. What kind of charitable giving are they involved in? How many hungry and poor do they feed and clothe?
Where do they get the idea that all churches hate each other, just because they don't believe the same exact way? (Romans 14:2-5) Doesn't this say that it is okay to differ on certain religious issues? We are all still in unity on our core beliefs, which is the Gospel as it is presented in the Bible. We don't have to be exactly the same in order to get along.
I feel this is a common misconception among JWs. Did you find this to be true also?

dogs and LIFE
by hamsterbait indoubt this will realy make a thread - .
i am just dumbfounded that the average american family dog is fed more animal protein per week than the average indian gets in a month.. how can we justify taking fish from protein starved peruvians and feeding them to our dogs?.
is it fair to say that the birth of an american baby is a greater disaster for the world than that of 25 indian babies .

Our garbage cans recieve more food than most of the world's population. That is why it is good to support Feed The Children, Samaritan's Purse, or similar groups, that are dedicated to helping the starving people in other countries. We don't know how good we have it. That is true.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses Christian?
by Scissorhands inlike mormons, jehovah's witnesses believe that christianity died with the last of the apostles.
they believe christianity was not resurrected until their founder, charles taze russell, began organizing the watchtower society in the 1870s.
in their view the cross is a pagan symbol adopted by an apostate church and salvation is impossible apart from the watchtower.

Thank you for posting this!
I was asked to write up a basic outline of the differences between the regular run-of-the-mill Christian and the JWs. This sums it up very nicely.
I hope you don't mind if I borrow your thoughts! Lots of Christians do not know that there are that many differences, because it is carefully hidden when you first meet with the JWs at your door.
They see the differences as minor. JWs convince them that they are Christians too. What they do not do, is tell you straight-up front exactly what they believe, what will be expected of you, and many other tid-bits that they have to hide. Otherwise no one would ever have the lack of good sense to join. They have to scare you in to it. Pride and fear seem to be the motivation they use.
Thanks for writing this. It is a terrific summary for my friends who know little about the WTS and what it teaches.

I Don't Think Prince Will Be Appointed an Elder Anytime Soon!
by Seeker4 inprince was just on american idol.
pretty sexy songs he did, with two women who sure weren't dressed to be on the tms!
he's just got to be too smart and creative to hang in with the witnesses for too much longer.
