  i got a couple of lumps of coal and a 2 for 1 mcdonald's dollar menu coupon.

  Besides the hospital bills and the "surprise" ( negative ) from my bank....

  Cologne from my son, My husband searched and found a CD with my favorite Christmas song, AND My exceptional Secret Santa was very generous and did "oh, so well"!!!!!

  Rebirth got me a set of salt and pepper shakers, cappucino, and a book about horses! I swear, I could feel sunshine radiating out of that gift box! Thank you so much, Rebirth!

  And I would also like to thank Abandoned, AK-Jeff, Honesty, By The Beach, and my other JWD friends who have helped me A LOT with their encouragement and advice. I love you all!

  i can put up with a lot of things.

  but i avoid people who are "users".

  you know the type....always taking, never giving, always looking to take advantage of someone......and i don't like liars all that much either.

  Selfishness.

  If you have a bad case of the "me-me-me-me's", then the means always justifies the ends, and all the other truly bad character traits rear their ugly heads all too often. It all goes hand in hand, it seems.

  My son wakes up at 5:30am, no matter what. That is his own body's schedule, which is fine, because he spends time with us in the morning before he goes school and we go to work. He is exhausted by 8pm, and 8:30pm is late for him to go to bed as it is. Summer he gets to stay up until 9:00pm. We adults need some "quality" time together too. :) That schedule works out for us.

  Any later than 9pm and we have a cranky grouch on our hands the next day. No thanks!

  Seems like the days last forever and the nights not long enough. Kids are standing out in the pitch dark waiting on the school bus. Then they have to go to bed while it is still light out. Everyone complains about it. It is a change that is very hard for us to get used to in our area.

  Of course, Daniels originally wanted us to be on the same time as Illinois, but that was changed. If we had went in that direction, it would have been much better.

  He really shot himself in the foot with this lousy time change!

  It was not well received and it over shadows anything good he accomplishes, because it is such a pain in the butt for us regular Joe's.

  I especially love it when I am trying to get my son to go to bed at 8:30pm and it is still broad daylight for an extra hour and a half! His grades really suffered last spring.

  Why does it seem to be unhappy people who are attracted to the JWs?

  i have had time to think about this........... i was an attendent for many years.......... and looking up and down the rows at every family that was seating there in the khs........... no one was happy!.

  i think of my mother (who brought this religion into our house)......she was one of the most unhappy and miserable people you would ever meet!

  she was a spiritual orphan with few friends and no real family to speak of.. she got the "good news" back in 1950, that "the world" was a bad place and god, would soon be killing most everyone......she was thrilled!...............

  I had a very religious Aunt (not a JW) who was extemely unhappy too. I used to listen to her go on and on about how I needed her religion, but all I could think about was how miserable and unhappy she was. She would reference the "future happiness" thought as well. Why would I want what SHE has? It looks like a miserable way to live. But to her, misery was happiness, and misery loves company.

  A miserable existence was some type of martyrdom for God, and isn't He just SOOOO impressed?!

  I only visited a KH once, but it was on the Memorial night. Of course, there was all that "love-bombing" going on, so I guess if you were looking for a place to be accepted, it might seem perfect. If you are looking for friendships, you might over-look the unhappiness of others, if there's a lot of attention lavished on you personally. Little do you know at that point that it is all an illusion. It is all conditional.

  The most contagious Christian I have ever met was my father-in-law. He doesn't push "religion". He lives a pattern of Christ-like love. He makes you want what he has. Everyone should have at least one relative like him. He is amazing!

  So are you expecting to get one in return? :)

  No. The only people I ever "expected" to recognize my birthday, was my Mom and Dad, and they are both gone now. We always had this under-lying depressing motto in my family: "If you don't expect much, you won't be disappointed." Getting away from that line of thought now.

  Last year I sent this same friend a birthday card and she didn't acknowledge it and she was very cool towards me for a few weeks after. The reaction this year was so much nicer!

  I sent my JW friend a Christmas card a couple of weeks ago. Last week I sent a birthday card.

  (I posted for advice on doing so.) My friend is not baptised yet, but professes to believe all they teach.

  Anyway, this friend called me today and thanked me happily for BOTH cards, and then told me there was an assembly out of town today, so she skipped "church". I never commented on anything. I just asked her if the card got to her in time for her birthday, because I was concerned it would be late, and she said it made it right on time.

  "Hope springs eternal", I know, but I really took this as a positive sign. She was so upbeat and happy when she spoke of it.

  I just wanted to share this with you, since you have all been so supportive and helpful on the many issues I ask about. I am not thinking that this is a sign that she is leaving the WTS, but it is nice to know that she realizes I am not the "enemy", just because I sent her a birthday card.

  I am still praying for a Christmas miracle for her!
