Why do you have YOUR faith?
by FreedomFrog infaith is the belief in something that there is no proof in.
christians believe in jesus, pagans believe in goddesses, atheist believe in no god and so on.... so everyone has put their "faith" in something one way or another.
even if you have put your "faith" in you...what made you choose?

There is something to be said about someone when they believe in you. There is an element of trust involved. It's like if I tell a friend I'm gonna show up at a party. He can either have faith that I'll show up, even though there is no proof, or he can say, "I'll believe it when I see it."
Which has more of an element of intimate trust?
I suppose God can come down and say..."here i am, TADDA!"
But that whole element of trust and faith which are virtues in and of themselves would be lost.
To have faith in God is to say that we believe and trust in him. Whether it be a relationship with God or anyone, faith is a virtue of that relationship.
Am I making sense? -

God didn't change his mind. He told the Ninevites that if they didn't repent he would destroy them... Well, they repented, so he didn't.. That's not changing your mind, that's keeping your promise.

I'll be honest. I can appreciate the fact that you like this show...
I watched last season.
However, I personally have come to think that this show is ridiculous. They've turned rock icons into pop icons. They are there critiquing people about how to be better when rock has always been rebellious, raw and natural. If you have to put on an act up there, I don't think you should be playing rock music. I think Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain would be turning over in their graves.
I can see the entertainment value, dont get me wrong...I just get disgusted at the commericalism. -

National Healthcare for the USA
by sammielee24 injust an fyi for anyone interested - there is a major drive on to push the bill forward for national healthcare in the usa.
you can sign the petition by going to http://www.onecarenow.org/.. it has gone through one part of the process last year and now the push is on to get it moved to the next level - it is backed by over 400 groups including the uaw i believe.
it is no longer if it happens, it is only a matter of time as to when it happens.

I don't know why anyone thinks it's the government's obligation to provide healthcare. I sure as hell don't want the goverment running my health insurance. All I do is have to look at Social Services, the DMV and any other goverment run occupation to see how incompetent the government is at doing their job. I think there is only one efficient government group and that's the IRS...go figure. I don't want the incompetent, work only as much as I have to, goverment employees in charge of my health.

Boycotting Israel
by Crumpet ini see that quite a few are following the dreadful attacks in lebanon.
today i went swimming to cool off with mr c and we were discussing what ways we could make our disapproval and anger at israels actions felt, besides being human shields.
(mr c reckons i'm big enough to stop one missile, but would be pretty useless after that.

The word "worship"
by Matt_fs inhey folks,.

Hey Matt,
In my experience, they showed me a place in the Old Testament where proskuneo was used on another man, to show that it must be obeisance. However, what they showed me was from a English translation of a Hebrew translation of a Greek translation that was translated from Hebrew.
I didn't see it as very reliable.
However, they were unable to show me ANYWHERE in the NEW TESTAMENT where proskuneo was used for a man.
However, I would simply make the point that it is academically safer in any situation to base your translation from the RULE, NOT the EXCEPTION. You can't pick and choose where you want to translate the word obeisance and where you want to translate it as worship. If we are consistent with our translation, we end up seeing that Jesus is worshipped by people and that God commands his angels to worship him.
You'll also note that a few times, people did proskuneo unto Peter and Paul and Angels where they all told them to STOP! because they were only Angels and men. And it would be a sin to do so. However, Jesus never refused. You could ask were people attempting to worship Peter, Paul and the angels? or were they just paying obeisance to them.
Be aware, they will try to find any exception to support their translation and understanding of the Bible no matter how much of a stetch and no matter how obscure. You can just tell them you aren't comfortable basing your faith on the EXCEPTION to the RULE.
I hope this helps. -

has humanity the intelligence to transcend love?
by the dreamer dreaming ini suspect it is fairly rare for two people to fall "in love" with each other at the same time... it seems to me
that many males will fall in love with just about any female that vaguely says anything approaching yes to their advances
and that they are not nearly as descriminating as females as to who they will have sex with... i could be wrong of course ...

My two cents:
Love is an action, not a feeling. Love is what you do or what someone does to you, not what you feel from that action. You may feel great happiness, contentment, euphoria...But if you ask someone, "How do you feel right now?" I don't think "I feel love" is an answer that makes much sense.
I can feel good, I can feel humbled, or so fortunate.
When you love someone...you care for them in a selfless way...but again..it's an action. Wanting their happiness above your own or even at your own expense.
