yes, i?ve made errors in judgement in my own posts, and monitors have posted emails to me, correctly pointing out that i should be careful in putting too many details that could potentially harm someone (this of late!).

Over there years, I?ve come to appreciate the diverse backgrounds of people here. And how wonderful you all are, in all your diverse personalities! I wish we could have a grand meet-up, an x-JW, international assembly? OK, maybe this won?t happen, but I just wanted to express my appreciation for everyone here! Especially, Simon, for creating this board in the first place! I don?t believe there?s been any other chat-room that has come even close to the number of postings/traffic as is here! Please correct me if I?m wong!

And may all you fine people find peace and happiness, contentment, in your search for God and Truth!

Attempted Rape and Screaming

as jws were were told that a woman had to scream if she was threatened with rape.

then some articles seemed to say that it was not mandatory but recommended and then it seems that the society reversed itself again by suggesting that it was ultimately up to the female as to whether she screamed or not........at this point in time, if you were to discuss with your child the options that she might take, what would you recommend?

would you still feel that screaming and fighting is the best avenue to take or would you think that there's nothing that you could suggest if such a terrible thing were to happen, that her life is the only thing that is important?

Of course, minimus, Watchtower assumes we can pick-and-choose portions of the Mosaic Law, when it comes to issues such as rape (and child abuse?). Interestingly, I had a very contentious fight with my brother (when he was still talking to me) about this very subject.

I asked him what he thinks he should do in case of a rape-charge between two JW?s. I told him to call 911! The "superior authorities" are "superior" right? OH NO, "a JW ?judicial committee? had to investigate," he said. He added, "it would be important for them to go to the hospital, where a rape-test could be performed, and then the Elders can get the results from the medical staff to find out if there?s a basis for such a charge!" Can you believe this? I told him he was nuts! Simply nuts! Additionally, I asked him if the Society, perhaps at Patterson, had a DNA testing lab. No doubt, if the Society truly wanted to handle cases like this, this should be available, right? Well, as usual, he did not know what to say.

Thanks for this important question! Issues like this are the "finishing nails" in the "coffin" of my trust, that JW?s have the true religion.

What Is The Stupidest Rule You've Encountered As a Witness?

one rule that i never could understand is that if you were studying with an unbelieving husband, you could associate with him, even as couples, but if a person was considered a "weak" witness, it was best to avoid any association until that person changed......what dumb rule or belief comes to your mind??

I think you?ve found one of the dumbest JW-rules! I?m not sure if I can top it. How about this, you can?t ride in a car with a sister you?re not married to. Even when she?s old enough to be your mother. For example, I got a warning from an x-CO/then-Elder, about driving an older sister back home after field service. She needed a ride. Oh yes, if the ride was less than 10-15 mins., that was acceptable, if longer, a serious sin! Can you believe this?

generation change

hello this is my first topic on this forum.. i left the jws 18 months ago and am still recovering.

it was after reading crisis of conscience that i was brave enough to leave although i had serious doubts before i was always scared in case it was right!!

and i was wrong.. however when they changed the generation in 1995 that caused me great trauma as i had accepted that as absolute fact and based my life on it.

WELCOME HERE! Yes, the "generation" change, I would say, was one of the most important changes in my life as a JW! It was the change that started me on the road of inquiry regarding Watchtower dogma! It marked a turning point in my life. Of course, learning that we?ve been lied to all my life, I was bitter at first, now I?m thinking about where to redirect my life to benefit others and myself.

I truly wish you the best in your search for God. "post" here often! You have friends here!

I'm not trying to make a moral judgement here, one way or another. I?m merely trying to show how JW?s with problems can?t get any type of help from the Congregation! In fact, going to the Elders usually results in an investigation, conviction, and a disciplinary sentence! Where?s the real help there? Sad to say, Lane was only 1 of 5 young folks who committed suicide within a 2-3 year period in the same congregation, including my girlfriend, whom I dearly loved!

Even if someone wanted to abandon a certain practice, let?s say, for argument, something condemned in the Bible; going to the Elders isn?t going to do it! A person, for instance, might have developed a drug or alcohol dependency, realize the problem, and want to correct it. But going to Elders, in most cases, will result in their being DF?d or "publicly reproved!" Where?s the love of Christ in that? JW?s have a system of incredible pressure, zero tolerance (unless you?re a child molester ? don?t get me started) for anything outside its Talmud-of-laws as directed in its plethora of books, brochures, magazines, and secret letters send to elder-bodies!

Yes, same attorney. When he was not doing his own practice he was doing a lot of work for the Society and brothers such as yourself. Also, he was on the Governing Body (Board of Directors) for a short while, but someone said that he couldn't have been "anointed," and so they kicked him out.

He practiced "law" 24/7, and from what I understand, created a strained relationship with his daughter and son.

He had a drinking problem, was DF'd, later reinstated. Working for the Society at his level, no doubt contributed to his problem, as many Bethel "heavy's" are alchoholics.

By "boys" I mean young teanagers his age. He wasn't a child molester or something like that.

He was trying to get some help at a hospital, but it didn't seem to help very much. Anyway, he started using heavy drugs, and no doubt that added to the problem.

Well, Lane was a very good friend of mine. And I?m not "gay" nor wish to bash anyone who is, but Lane was a homosexual or at least a bisexual, as he told me! He had sex with Witness "boys" for many years, while growing up in the "truth" and he was the the son of the Society?s lead attorney! He wanted to quit, but it was very hard.

Anyway, he hung himself from his Mom?s basement some years ago. His dad had died many years prior from cancer. His mom tried to get me married to his sister, whom I liked very much, but could never marry, we were not even close to being compatible! However, she and I hung out a lot, many years ago!

If someone is in a similar situation, whereby they?re gay or bisexual, or whatever, everything is going to be "ok!" Don?t x-yourself! PLEASE!

Anyway, I hope that if you?re having severe problems, hang in there or at least contact this group for help, and perhaps get possible relief! Don?t "out" yourself! It?s not worth it! Elders can't help! Many members on this board can! "WE" care!
