My car has 290,000 miles. I live in a 350 square foot studio apartment which doubles as an office for the two very small businesses that my wife and I run. We can't afford health insurance, workers comp, retirement or any other perks that would be nice to have.
Yet I'm perfectly happy with where I'm at and the direction I am going.
Please excuse my optimism for believing that the short term pain of energy costs are going to be for the betterment of our long term future.
last night at the gas pump i had a verbal , emotional outburst , swearing to no one in particular - just the gas pump , until i saw 2 guys at the island down from me - so i figured i'd let it rip !
frustration over these insanely rising gas prices finally took it's toll on even -keeled mr. flipper !
i started my rant , wanting these guys feedback , " what is it with these #ucking gas prices ?

You're right. I should listen to them too as they have predicted 10 of the last 3 recessions.
with the talk of everyone trying to cut back and reevaluate their necessities due to the rising cost of products from gas to food, what is the one thing that will never go in your life...a "luxury"item that has wound itself so deeply in your soul you would be incomplete without it?.

I agree with gregor. A dose of reality is needed on this board. Things aren't that bad, you all are posting here, using an internet service and computer that you paid for. Why not disconnect your ISP, sell your computer and buy some food for your(supposedly) starving bellies?

My car gets 25-28
I just turned a job down that was full time because it would involve a 25 mile commute one way five days a week.
8 dollar per day to go to work and back. 40 dollars per week. 160 per month. Face it, it was a bad decision to turn away a full time job when you say that jobs are hard or impossible to come by in your state.
i'm curious if anyone has tried this and what is the wt protocol for such a situation.

The secretary handles the transfer of publisher records. Typically it is done with just a phone call to get the address to send the file to. In the past, I did the legwork and got the address from the secretary of my new congregation and gave that to the old congregation. Had I been smarter, I would have opened up a mailbox or po box and had the records sent to myself.

Stop generalizing and hoping for destruction of the masses in order somehow glorify green.
Who's hoping for that? My impression is that you are somehow getting your rocks off thinking about even the remote possibility of a financial armageddon. I think you should change your ID to HennyPenny or ChickenLittle.

DONKEY- I get the impression you don't drive much - otherwise you WOULD NOT want the price of oil to keep rising ! Are you with Chevron, or some other oil company ? You seem so gleeful at these rising prices.
I drive between 60,000 and 70,000 miles annually. And I WANT gas prices to stay high or even get a bit higher.

Natural gas is the way to go!
here in the uk we're paying over a 1 a litre for regular unleaded fuel, that's about $9 per gallon for my american friends.
now i'm as aware as anyone that the bulk of my fuel pound goes to the government in duty (or fuel tax) but let's just look at the bottom line cost to you and i as motorists - 1/litre.. just getting the the damn stuff out of the ground is dangerous and expensive, especially at offshore rigs.
then you have to transport it, refine it and transport it again.
The way some of you talk you would think............
I suspect that most of those that talk about how 'easy' you have it, have never left the US.(visiting canada or mexico doesn't count)
I highly recommend that those that piss and moan about fuel prices, need to take a field trip around the world. After they return, I believe that most will realize how easy and cheap we have it here in the United States.
