She won't explain why. My wife is notorious for never communicating her opinion beyond face value. She just gets this scowl look on her face when I told her that I don't want children of my own, but instead want to adopt.

As a j-dub I looked forward to the 'living forever in paradise earth' concept. As an x-dub and an atheist I see the circle of life as it is. The one thing I would say I retain from the dubs is the desire to live a longer life, perhaps forever. However, I suspect that most other people would want to live longer than what is expected, but I don't know for certain as I cannot speak for anyone but myself.
Adoption has always been something I've given serious thought to. The problem is that my wife(aside from being a j-dub) is very much against the idea of adoption.
There's no doubt in my mind that I haven't fully come to terms with the fact that I will die. Ofcourse I know it will happen, but the indoctrination I received from the j-dubs may still be lingering in my mind whispering 'sweet nothings' to me.

To put it simply, I don't think there is anything beyond this life that we have. And to raise a child for my own selfish reason of simply wanting a child is not fair. That child would then grow up, enjoying this very short life only to have it taken away after 70 or 80 years. No doubt my child, like myself, would be left wanting much more than a short life span, and there is no way I would raise them to believe in the myths of living forever in heaven or on earth.

zeroday,
That's the same conclusion I keep coming to. Which really sucks since I've always loved kids and would like one of my own. So far I've got none and I think it's best to keep it that way. If I were to have a child, I believe it would be inconsistent with my personal views and beliefs.

OMG, I'm going to die :(
by lola28 inbecause it is hot as hell outside, it has to be 113 at least, when you walk outside you feel like you are on fire, someone make it stop!
i can't imagine going out in service in this heat but this morning on my way to work what do i see?
faithful jws walking the streets, should it be considered child abuse to make children go out in ervice in this heat?.

So technically, that would make it "sacrificial" puke, poured out upon Jehovah's altar?
When you consider that jehovah bastard enjoys animal sacrifices, war, murder, and foreskin removal I doubt he is that impressed over a bit of vomit. Maybe next time you can vomit and crap your pants at the same time. That might impress him!

Why do atheists have children? I don't believe for a second that there is anything but this one life. Is it acceptable for me to have a child that will be 'teased' with this one life that we have?

Which do you prefer, 113 or 20 below zero like we have in the winter time here.
I prefer the heat. I was born and raised in Minnesota. Moved to california 4 years ago. I moved for that very reason, to get away from the cold.

I'm on a bit of a mission
by PaulJ inthose who don't know my story- was brought up a jw, married young (dumb idea), divorced, kinda fell for the 1st person that came along, that didnt work, now kinda sat pondering where the hell the past decade has gone!
i'm on the hunt for some of my old friends, both people that have had the sense the leave the jw's as well as my old mates from school and college that were good friends- and must of put up with some weird behavior from me (no xmas and birthday cards, no attending of birthday parties etc etc).
i've managed to get into contact with one or 2 which is great, especially one who asked if i was still aa jw , which i was so pleased to be aable to say i wasn't!

I now live thousands of miles away from where I was born and raised. Over the last year or so I've been wondering about some of the friends I had that left the j-dubs years ago. I do enjoy my new friends and my new life, but when the time is right I will be doing as you are by catching up on old times and friends and learing about their new perspective on life.

Yep, it's a warm one. I'm glad I live at the beach. That being said,, It's hot here too, in the 90s. I do know what you're going through, I just came back from the valley. -
