  Did any of you head off to University after leaving the org

  one of my biggest regrets is not getting a degree, due to the jw brain-washing against higher education.

  i feel a strong sense of never having reached my academic potential and having been restricted in many ways by this.

  i was a high achiever at high school + some teachers were bemused that i never went on to varsity.

  I'm thankful that my dad had the foresight to send us to college against the will of his fellow elders. Though is true that he gave us a 4 year limit to spend there and that our choices were limited to an institution that was close enough to home so that we didnt' "go away to college". That also limited the choices in careers.
  
  So I got my degree, and so did my sister. However, mine was in something that would have never been my first choice, and I settled for what was available.

  My exScientology friend...

  i have a friend who backed out of scientology way back when hubbard was still alive.

  we go to lunch together quite often here at work.

  we have often commented about the great similarity & difficulty between breaking away from wt and from the scientologists.

  let's say you go back to your hometown for a family funeral.

  you're not df'd or da'd, but most haven't heard from you for many years.

  you know you'll get the inevitable "so are you going to meetings?

  I have been in that situation and my experience has been that the really nice people who truly cared for you and liked you when you were around, don't bring it up. The only ones that do are the annoying, holier-than-thou, gossip-loving hypocrites, that don't give a crap about you even if you still were active. Being that the case, I respond with a simple "If you are so concerned with my spirituality, how come I've never heard from you in the past __ years?" and walk. By the time they come up with an answer, you are 20 feet away.
  
  Plus it gives the incredible satisfaction of the look of shock on their faces.

  Did you ever go out in Field Service on Thanksgiving or Christmas morning

  i never had a problem with going door to door except for the holidays.. one, i felt like we were intruding on our neighbors who set aside time be with their loved ones.. two, it just made me feel more different and jealous that i was not celebrating the holidays with my family.. any thoughts?

  just wrapped my first christmas gift...

  the only thing that sucked about it was the fact that i had no idea how to wrap a gift... late 20's and i've never wrapped a present before????

  Congratulations! But I got you beat, it took me 35 years before I wrapped my first XMas presents and put up my first tree! My best friend who is in the same situation and I joke about this constantly! You are right: only a JW! Because other religions may not celebrate Christmas, but they celebrate something! JW's live the most incredible boring lives in mankind. Have fun ringing in the New Year!!! hahaha
