if you lose your belief system, do you become worse, better, stay the same, happier, sadder?
is it better to have a system imposed on you in order to control you, or is it better to be yourself?
I think it depends on what you mean by "nice" and what you mean by "belief system". My son believes in Santa and that he'd better be nice or he won't get any presents. So yes, it makes him be a little nicer to his sister.
My belief system is based on "Come from a place of love not fear." I try not to judge others but "Be in acceptance of all that comes my way". I am a nicer person now, than I was when I had the witnesses belief system.
i went to my gp today.
i go there quite often since he's also my parent's doctor and i bring them to all their appointments.. i take my dad there at least once a month for blood work since he is on blood thinners, so i'm very familiar with the lady who draws blood.. today i had to have blood drawn myself, and the lady inquired about my parents.
she asked if they had had a nice christmas.
I think she basicly said you might go to hell if you don't join some kind of religion. Its OK though my sisters GP who is treating her for depression told her she was a white witch and gave her a shop and some books to look up. He said she was very powerful. heh! Who'da thought it.

i am starting this thread since low-key lysmith and momzcrazy were very surprised they are here on jwd on my thread about what congregations they have attended in their lifetime, so who knows we might be surprised for more online reunions.
Well growing up I was in Congregations in Adelaide Hills, Port Lincoln, Grafton and Bonville. Im not DF'd but I might send in my DA letter if I can be bothered. Anyone else here from those areas? Anyone remember me?

this is an idea that really freaked me out when i was still "in".

if you die, and your body disinegrates, and the soul doesnt live on; in fact, nothing lives on, then what is resurrected?
Yeah! I remember that memory thing too. So god makes a new you then puts in what? If you don't remember any of the old stuff, your not you any more, so whats the point of even trying to get resurrected? Pffft nothing they say makes any sense at all!

I say 8 years but really I started to leave mentally and emotionally around 1995. My Hubby was DF'd last year for saying to the elders on the phone that he didn't know if evolution was true or not and refusing to meet about it. The elders recently told my mum she should treat me the same as him so I guess they regard me as DA'd.
my sister-in-law is recently divorced and went to a witness online dating site.
she mentioned that many of the witnesses specified that they wanted a white or latino only.
of course there is nothing wrong with this (personal preference), but i found it interesting.
