IMHO, to me there is a big difference. The bible says nobody knows the day or the hour, that IS open ended. The JWs have used specific dates and impending doom warnings for their whole history to control people. They say they are spreading good news but it's really fear mongering, not good news when they are condeming 99.9% of earths population (everyone but them) to destruction.

I do believe it will happen one day and that Jesus will come back, but I don't think it will turn out anything like the JWs say it will. I just hope if stuff happens, that a bunch of inactive or ex-JWs don't go running back to the JWs out of fear thinking that the JWs had the "truth" after all. Many besides the JWs have been saying we are in the end times, for the past 2,000 years, so the JWs aren't saying anything new. It's just that the JWs keep making false predictions so they figure one of these days they might hit it right. They are just capitalizing on it and trying to manipulate and control people with it through fear. Remember the Hale Bop cult and Jim Jones and David Koresh? I think they all claimed that the end was near so people would listen to them. Most cults capitalize on the "end is near" and make false predictions but I think the witnesses might be one of the most notorious false prophets.

why are there laws and regulations that can cause a person, a child, a lover, a husband, a wife, a mother, a father, to die?.
Excellent post. I noticed these scriptures too when I was doing bible research before I left the JWs. I came to the conclusion that the JWs were so wrong and that based on what Jesus did in these cases, I could not picture him standing next to a hospital bed expecting a parent to let their child die because of refusing to take a blood transfusion. That was not him and I finally understood the saying about wanting mercy, not sacrifice.

this video is about 12 minutes long.
a young woman that says in the very beginning that she is a jw, is stopped at the flea market and witnessed to by someone that is encourging her to be 'born again'.
at the end of the video he prays with her and she accepts jesus as her savior.. the video says they are in raleigh nc maybe someone will reconize her.
Is anyone else having trouble hearing it? The audio is almost non-existent.

I totally believe that the laws need to be changed. They are so unfair. It is not fair to put a 19 year old guy who gets into trouble with his girlfriend who is under 18 in the same catagory as a 40 or 50 year old guy who goes after children. To destroy a young kids life for a bad judgement call when he was just barely an adult himself is crazy.

i have been researching revelation 9 and have recently come to the realization that the jws are claiming in their own literature that they themselves are the locust horde coming out of the abyss spoken of in revelation 9 and they are also claiming that their king is abaddon the king of the abyss who they say is jesus.
in their old literature they used to say the abaddon is satan and now they have done a flip flop and say he is jesus!
this is just amazing to me that they would say this.

This is their current teaching. From your post I wasn't sure if you thought this was a past teaching or not. They used to teach that Abaddon was satanic or Satan himself and that the locusts were demonic coming up out of the abyss. That is pretty much how most theologians interpret it. Back a while ago, the Watchtower switched their teaching (another complete flip flop) to the opposite and teach that Abaddon is Jesus and that the locusts are JWs.
It's nuts. If you look at the bible and other references to the abyss, nothing good ever comes out of the abyss. The beast is said to come out of the abyss and the demons that Jesus sent into the swine were begging Jesus not to send them to the abyss.
This should just show people how way out the organization is and how they have no clue who Jesus is and they don't have anything else right either. It's like they are throwing a bunch of crap at the wall and seeing what sticks. How can anybody actually trust anything they say?

To me the worst thing of all is that the Watchtower indentifies Abaddon with Jesus. First they say Jesus is a little or secondary god, then they say he's Michael the Archangel, then Abaddon the angel of the Abyss. I think the scripture talking about the blind leading the blind and how they will both fall into the pit is pretty applicable to the Watchtower. Everything I have looked up on Abaddon points to him being Satanic, but yet they try to say he's Jesus.

I have done research on Abaddon and he is known as the king of the demons from the abyss or the prince of hell, another name for Satan. So basically, in the JWs Revelation book on page 142 or so, they are saying they are the locusts from the abyss and that their king is Abaddon or Satan. Did any of you realize this or what do you think? They also claim this in the Watchtower of May 1st 1998.

Hey all I found the NWT passage of their official website. Here is Zechariah 2:6-13. To me it sure sounds like it is saying Jehovah himself is sending Jehovah to dwelling with us, which to me is Jehovah in the flesh or Jesus the messiah.
6 “Hey there! Hey there! Flee, then, YOU people, from the land of the north,” is the utterance of Jehovah.
“For in the direction of the four winds of the heavens I have spread YOU people abroad,” is the utterance of Jehovah.

I tossed out my old NWT but somebody showed me this passage in their NWT and I was shocked to see that it said basically that Jehovah is sending me Jehovah. Does anyone have a NWT and can they post how this passage reads? At the time I saw it I was shocked. I'm glad you brought this up. Because of passages like this and others like you and Honesty mentioned, I came to believe Father, Son and Holy Spirit are indeed One and I left the organization about 3 1/2 years ago because of realizing this. I can't figure out why people admit the organization has lied about just about everything but then they don't think the organization is lying about who Jesus is. This is the organization's biggest lie in my opinion.
