"This is explained with "new light", that slowly has gotten brighter. However - some of the things JWs and Bible Students used to do and teach, are today deemed as having pagan roots. In other words, they were still "worshiping false gods" at one point (celebrating Christmas for instance). So why did Jehovah let this go on for so long?" Maybe he just didn't know about the pagan roots and had to rely on the JWs to determine what was pagan. Ya think?

Is it The Truth? Does this answer work?
by jwfacts ini know that a jw that wants to believe in the wts will not listen to any form of logic or reason.
however, could the following reasoning reach the thinking ability of a few jehovah's witnesses?.

Reinstatement questions
by RebelWife inwould somebody give me a detailed rundown of what occurs?
and what would i (the evil ubm) notice my husband doing that would give me a clue that he might be planning this?
i've looked at some old threads and see that there must be letters & meeting attendance.

Oral sex? Yes, he is quite well aware that it's taboo. And quite unable to give it up. He's been working on an explanation for five years. His best shot is that it's a "homosexual practice," and of course, I run circles around that one because it's utter nonsense. The one lost sheep discussion shuts him up real fast. He's seen me in action with "lost" people and knows how disgusted I am by people who toss them aside like so much trash. I'm big on analogies. I think if I can get him to respond to things that are not JW related enough times, when he's confronted with stuff in a JW context, he might have less of a pre-programmed reaction.

His one family member that I can talk to (occasionally) about this did suggest that he answer my questions/concerns, that as my husband, he owes me that. I totally agree. He cannot answer any of them. That seems to really bother him. He keeps suggesting a bible study. (Gigantic eye-roll) Mind you, this is only a couple of times a year. We're not talking about all the time. He says he'll have to talk to someone and get answers for me. Typical. I insist that I want to know what HE thinks/feels/believes and what HE bases this on because I'm not married to anybody but him.

Why is the "Cross" an issue?
by Doug Mason inwhat does the wts hope to achieve by creating an issue of the shape of the implement that jesus was nailed to?
why are they prepared to go so far as to misrepresent authorities through selective quotations, such as of lipsius as well as of liddell and scott?
this is not about the shape of the implement, but to unearth the reason why the wts has this position.

Maybe because making an issue of it diverts attention from the message?

Thanks for your replies, everybody! I'm sure I'll think of more questions & I KNOW I have some comments. (I probably ought to keep most of those to myself, as they'd most likely be vulgar in extremis.)

He's been DFd three times, I think. The last time he said they didn't want to, but he said something along the lines of not being able to measure up and that they didn't have a choice. I believe all three times were sex-related, but I didn't meet him until a couple of years after the last time. The only time he talks about going back is when things get really stressful. There's all kinds of crazy stuff going on right now, so I'm thinking this may come up again. I think at one time he told me they would want to know all the things he's done that are no-no's, so that would include things I don't want discussed with a bunch of perverts. We're still not at the point where he would talk to a counsellor. He said he's afraid I would cause problems if I went. (Who, me?) Do they really bar people from the outside who are part of the equation? I can't wrap my brain around that. I'm his WIFE. Oh, boy...

It's considered between the confessor and the confessee's. Do you really want to sit in on a religious judicial action where you don't recognize their authority?
Oh, yeah. I'd like to hear the whole thing. And watch hubby try to tell someone that what we've done is disgusting. I'd also like to see their reactions.

Is there some type of formal thing, like a hearing? That's what it sounds like, but he really won't tell me much of anything. I want to know if these people are going to be hearing anything about our sex life. I REALLY want to know about that one. Hubby says no, but for some reason, I just don't believe that. How many nights/days a week would he be attending something? Could I go with him and dress objectionably, or is there some reason I couldn't? (Not that I would want to. This is still all hypothetical.)
