Do you remember giving talks?

i remember getting a slip with a topic on it, but what else was on that slip?
did it tell you what scriptures you should cite, or what book the talk was based on?

Sorry, I need to vent for a moment...
by Abandoned innormally, i don't mind where i'm at in my life.
i'm forty, no kids, low-paying job, live in a trailer court, etc (and trust me there's more to the etc, then i've already mentioned), but today i had a hard time.. one of my best friends from high school was a big dope head (no offense to the dope heads out there).
he showed up nearly every day to our first period art class smelling of weed and was generally so whacked out of his mind that he got horrible grades.. he finally graduated - barely - and made it to college.

I feel your pain ... I met with a friend of mine who was exactly as smart as I was and we were into all of the same things because we were friends. The only thing different is that after school she would go smoke weed and do things teenagers shouldn't do with boys. Flash forward 7 years: She has a job wtih a company doing international business making a killing while I'm a secretary at a welding supply store. I quit college after a year(yes I was bad and decided to go despite of the warnings) because the only guy in my kingdom hall that was left for me to marry turned out to be a dud. I now have friends who are college professors, doctors, lawyers, ballet dancers.... you name it and I am a secretary because of the crap the JWs put me through. I was smart enough to do anything I wanted and now I'm stuck working to pay bills because of all that nonsense. I get on the same old soapbox time and again. I'm so sorry that you've had to deal with that too.

Women's Role
by loveneverfails inso as you can see this is my first post here...it's going to sound a bit jumbled i'm sure.. i stopped going to meetings exactly a year ago primarily due to my realization of my role as a "woman" (well i'm 22 but anyway..).
to me, being a jw woman means a life as a subserviant housewife who can make no decisions and can only excel by pioneering.
i realized that's the way the whole bible is...totally male-dominant.

You should look into lori mcgregor's ministry. She is a lady who is a former JW and she works to show how that women shouldn't be silent in the church. Also, some churches like the Methodist one have women pastors and all sorts of things.
I was fortunate enough to find a man who is dominant in my house but its no where near like what the JWs go through. He takes most of the responsibility but we still make decisions together. I'm fine with a man taking care of me -- but not taking my freedom and thought away. I think I figured out what the Bible was talking about. They knew we women would have our hands full and the Bible wanted the men to do something too -- make the work 50/50.
I know if I had to have a father like my dad was that had all of the say-so, I would puke. Don't let the JW way of doing things screw up your brain anymore!! They damaged us in so many ways.

my cat died today... i need consoling...
by theinfamousone inthis is the guy that sat on my razor blades the one time i was thinking of cutting myself... this is the guy that everytime my dad beat me, would come to my room and lay with me... this is the guy that one time jumped into the bathtub with me while i was crying after a brutal beating, the cat hated water... this is a cat that was more family to me than my own father and mother combined... this was my best friend... .
today i had to do the hardest thing i ever did, i had to choose to have him put down... and as he fought the vet, and tried to bite her, i put my hand on his head, and he stopped struggling... and as they put the last needle into his leg, he purred until he died... the vet says she has never seen that before... this was my best friend and i had to kill him... fuck, im a baby, but i miss him soooo much.

I am so sorry. I can't say that I know how you feel because the only connection I've ever had was to a cat I had for 4 years. I got him from an ad for free kittens in the paper because I felt like I could use some company. I wasn't going to the meetings much and noone would have much to do with me so I felt quite alone.
At the time my ex-husband was beating me. The cat saw me when I cried and was lonely and would curl up beside me and care for me when noone else would. He would put his little paw on my face .. :) That cat was the only thing that kept my sanity. I remember loosing him once and across the town a family found him and called the number on his tag. He was just always there and cared just for me. His name was Skittles.
One day I saw my mom's dog kill him before I could get to the fight. I'll spare you the details but I know that was one of the hardest things I've had to deal with.
My condolences go out to you and I hope you get to feeling better soon. My heart just broke reading your story.

I remember the talks ....
I remember "Godly Obedience" .. It made me want to barf.
Talks about not talking to DFed people and their families hanging their head in shame.
Talks about pornography.
Talks about cleanliness. About how you should have a clean car when you go door to door.
And especially the one that caused me to loose my virginity. They said that feeling on another person was just as much a sin as having sex. So, I decided that I might as well have sex then.
I also remember my meals.
My mom's lasagne. .. mandarin orange cake
My aunt's gumbo. ... homemade ice cream
My grandma's cream cheese chicken crissonts .... .candy bar cake .... turkey and cornbread dressing...
Its funny. I remember the good meals and the bad talks... HUMMMMM
