Welcome. Before I was an atheist I feared the idea a bit. I could go into many reasons why I would and even others fear it, bottom line, when you are born in and raised believing otherwise, the prospects are scary. For me I first became agnostic. Then an atheist friend told me "you know what agnostic is? an atheist without balls" we both laughed, but I was always concerned life on that side would be empty, dark, and sad.
Well... I had to become an atheist all the way, really accepting that, yes indeed this is it, and through some other life experiences I won't get into, I found that actually life (I only speak for me) was much more beautiful on this side. Much much happier, much more at peace, much more loving and tolerant.
Often to we put religion up against atheism as a opposite side, when it not really. Atheism is not a religion. one of the best ways I heard it described once, and even some atheist would say this is not true, but it was said like this;
"Lack of belief in a god, is not a CLAIM that there is no god"
You need to be allowed to not believe. I Claim there is no YHWH the desert god based on what I observe, but "god" could be a broad vague term, who knows, if Aliens landed tomorrow and said yea, we planted you @$$holes here a long time ago, well, we may have not believed that, but it would completely change our idea of reality. It would be new evidence of origin, what I am getting at is that Atheist strictly base their beliefs on evidence, and usually pretty conclusive evidence; ie I can't disprove god, but i also can't prove him, so why would I ever insist he exists??? I don't believe in him until I see him.
But coping, everyone is different I guess, for me the atheism side is beautiful. I love people more, I hold much more value on my time, I think little of my own suffering, pain or otherwise (no more persecution complex) I just take the beauty that is life and enjoy it. Atheists have everything to live for. Again just my thoughts but I hope it helps.
If you see it all the way through, you may go from coping with atheism to enjoying it

How Come the Watchtower does not admit "We Don't Know Anything About Bible Prophecy" and come clean?
by PokerPlayerPhil inso many of us have been caught up in the negative effects this religion placed over our lives and those who we love very much.
i am the first one to tell my kids "i don't know s&^^ about this or that subject", if the watchtower is truly our brother or spiritual mother why don't they tell us the following questions we all have asked them?.
1. we screwed up about 1914 and "life is short, go live your life to the fullest while maintaining justice and morality, don't hurt your fellow man by making his life screwed up!.

They are trying a work around. They are slowly walking away from the prophecies of the past. So slow no one will notice. But they are doing it. In very small amount's in order not to draw attention to their being wrong. Slowly slowly slowly. The. One day they will be all the way away from it and their history will be rewritten and they will say we never claimed to know anything special. -

Convention Cartoon
by freemindfade inso last night they played the convention cartoon.
there were a few laughs from the audience, overall though people seemed a little taken aback and tight lipped.
like no one gushed about it afterwards, no applause, just like it was nothing new at all.

The squeaking of the pen got really old too hearing that through the KH sound system. An effect better used in shorter videos. -

Do You Think Humanity Will Ever Be Completely Free From Religion?
by InjusticeSystem ini realize that many here still have a form of spirituality or faith, and i mean no disrespect to those individuals.
i suppose i am posting this question to those, like myself, who have come to the conclusion that religion in general is a major hindrance to the progress of our species and needs to be put aside so that we can advance to our full potential.
so my question is, do you think this will ever actually happen, and how do you think we can get there?

Yes ignorance seems to be the manure that makes the religion tree grow. Think how nutty and fantastical scientology is in this day and age, (not to down play how nutty ancient religion is), but really as long as people need someone stronger to tell them what to do, governments, religions, and other entities will exploit it. -

One of the most telling things in the video, that really was always talked about in the meeting part it replaced, but is more blaring in the video is that witnesses are inconsiderate assholes.
- Reminders to tip? WHO NEEDS TO BE REMINDED????
- Not treating the continental breakfast and ice machine as your personal food bank? No kidding you dumb hicks!
- Don't eat too much for lunch? talking to the wrong group here...
that part of it makes me ever more embarrassed to be associated with the witnesses, that they really are known for these types of things.

My theory on why they did this, is that they are smart, they have realized that the adults in the org like the Caleb and Sophia cartoons as much OR MORE than the damn kids! So now they are going to appeal to their audience and make some cartoons for the adults.
I feel like the youngest ones in the hall are weirded out by it, and the oldest ones feel alienated. it's all very strange.
