I guess I'm technically a Gen X'er, since I was born in 1979. I only recently started reading the ex-JW reddit forum. (like a month ago)
Wing commander are we the same person?
if anyone had to guess, what do you think the average age of the community actually is?.
are more millennials actually waking up or is it pretty even amongst previous generations as well?

sadly I don't see many or they rather lurk at the moment.
One strength of Millenials is the value they put on their social circles and teams. This could hold many in, regardless of what goes on with the organization, it is a social network and carries a lot of value to your generation.
Gen x can be fiercely independent (sometimes to our own headaches). I think this has empowered a lot of us to wake, even though we grew up in an era that i believe beat the Armageddon drum WAAAAY louder. The literature was loaded with end of the world images, we had the revelation book, we lived during the end of the cold war. So I think we were hit with a lot of Fear Obligation and Guilt (FOG) that made learning TTATT thee most frighting thing we could do. that made it slow for us, but once we learn its hard to not be vocal as you said.
And I think you should start your own you tube channel. There was another young couple on their Christian and Katja, I assume they are millenials and their delivery was great. Very refreshing and good for others to find you are starting to lurk and doubt. So i would seriously consider it if i were you.
this forum offers the stories of folks with as many variations as there are folks and a “great crowd” of lurkers whose stories may never be offered.
i am an outsider with a broken heart for some insiders that i love more than they know.
after reading nearly every “apostate” book ever written, lurking, being worn out searching the wt cd, i have come to an idea that i present for your appraisal..
Just never stop expanding your mind and learning as much as you can, even if it is critical of any beliefs you currently hold, intellectual honesty is a never ending search.
Just remember belief won't change facts, but as long as you stay rational facts should change your beliefs.

QMI You are on the cusp. But technically I would label you a millenial.
exjw reddit is a community discussion board/news thing. I am not crazy about the format of it. But it does have some cool features and good posts. I notice there seems to be more of a new school crowd on there. I don't post as much or debate with people really. I did find a nice local exjw and hung out with them, that was cool.

I remember buying Nirvana nevermind and the world just seemed to be different after that point.
Amen!
FreeMindFade, I'm curious as to what qualities you dislike with millennial ex jw ?
I don't dislike millenial exjws or their qualities, in fact I love them! because they have such a better shot at waking up in my opinion. This is total speculation but i believe my generation (X) lived in the bridge between "no internet" & "internet". So many of us were slow to wake up but are coming around. My hope if millenials will hopefully not get baptized too young and find their way out faster and help bring this organization down in numbers.
I meant in general millenials (not exjw millenials) have characteristics that will vex us GenXers, its just playful pride, not a aversion. I love millenials. Every generation has its strengths and weaknesses.
I think as an exjw, millennials are much more skeptical than precious generations, this is good. they have access to so much more information.
i'm watching the jw movie the prodigal son returns.. it is a masterpiece of indoctination and what i would call a "cult" classic.. it's about two brothers who work for their father's construction firm.
the older one is the most spiritual and the younger one isn't.
he befriends al, a weak brother, who persuades him to take a job in the city and move there.. it shows the "world" in the worst possible light.

QMI
Millenials, the generation that gets an award for participation lol.
Of course they have some irritating traits to an old Gen X'r like me, but they have good qualities too. Just a little to soft and lazy sometimes.
Born Mid 80's to mid 2000's, you are a millenial

GenX here, the best effing generation after the Great Generation imo.
I think most Millenials land on Reddit. Strangely even people that have never checked out this site mention they have heard about it and it has a negative rep in exjw community. Whatever, the millenials are on reddit.
the new midweek meeting has been running for a month now.
here are my thoughts on how it is going so far:.
1) elders are looking frazzled from being on virtually every meeting and having to prepare unfamiliar formats for items.
Listen obey and be bored.
I intended to attend the first one for curiously reason but missed it. I have not/will it be attending any others.
Lurkers wake up. I am starting to think the gb wants everyone to go away out of dicomfort or apathy.
have you heard that old chestnut?
i have.. typically it's the last resort when you have dismantled a jws beliefs and they have no way of defending them.
they know they are beat so they come out with that one.. its effectively an admission that you are right and they have no argument but they are still going to attend meetings because they like the social club.. what a lame way to defend your faith..
I was thinking about this this morning.
The Jehovah's witnesses have once again given their own internal definition to the word "Best"
"being a witness is the best life possible".
It is not. "Best" itself is really subjective. What the JW life is, is a relatively safe life, without guarantees of safety mind you. Without getting into the semantics of the things that make it unsafe (blood refusal, mental health issues, child molestation), just roll with this for a second.
Its not even the safest way of life. Just very safe or conservative. Yes if you adhere to its rules (that not only they adhere to btw), you may avoid some risky behaviors. Also you have a support system of sorts around the world and so on. Yes there is a level of safety being in this religion, I can now admit that. but does safe/conservative = best?
Well to coin my own JW style illustration... the safest way to travel around might be in a tank, but is it the best way to travel in everyday life?
