this is a new concept for me that i keep running into with all of the discussion regarding the memorial: the fact that the jehovah's witnesses make a yearly ritual (their only ritual) of not partaking of the symbolic flesh of christ.
can any christians comment on the importance in the christian faith of partaking in this?
and why, would jw's feel the need to build up this rite to have people "pass" it up.
Greetings,
This is a new concept for me that I keep running into with all of the discussion regarding the memorial: The fact that the Jehovah's Witnesses make a yearly ritual (their only ritual) of NOT partaking of the symbolic flesh of Christ. Can any Christians comment on the importance in the Christian faith of partaking in this? And why, would JW's feel the need to build up this rite to have people "pass" it up.
I know, ad nauseum the JW explanation of the two class system--the earthbounders need not apply, but it seems something far more (dare I say) subconsciously sinister is at play here.
I believe very strongly in the subconscious training and manifesting power of ritual. This feels like a very strange thing to do in a religion (Christianity) whose whole doctrine and very existence centers around this one rite that commences and relives a covenant with their god to place people in an observer/denial stance. Very, very strange indeed that the witnesses would have people pass it up.
Thank you in advance,
~Brigid
edited to add: ALSO, Jesus says "keep doing this in remembrance of me". To my mind, Jesus at that point, at least (and I believe up to the time of his death) was Jewish. He was celebrating Passover. The memorial looks nothing even slightly akin to a Passover Seder.
i am definatly not a jw anymore.
but what am i. my husband wants to find a church home, but everytime he talks about it the hair on the back of my neck stands up.
i would rather have my teeth drilled.
I would, if you're of a mind to, simply explore many different worship experiences. It became sort of a hobby of mine. I have my own unique path that is not really shared by any group but I enjoy viewing how other people approach the Divine. My very first church experience was a beautiful Catholic service (I just had to go because the JWs had absolutely demonized them so horribly). I have a very good friend who is a very spiritual nun and she and I went together. It was stunningly beautiful. I still enjoy Catholic services and go occasionally. I would not "join" anything but I enjoy communing with people who are seeking the Divine.
Bright Blessings,

i can't believe it, but i missed my first memorial!!!.
i wasn't sure what was going to happen, until it was past the time to get ready and leave.
i left it up to my husband, and he made no effort to get ready and go.
BB,
You'll get to where you don't even notice it. It will be just another lovely spring evening.
Bright Blessings,
~Brigid
this is my first post.
i've been reading for a while and can relate to a lot of the other post.
been associated with the witnesses for over 30 years now, been disfellowshipped twice but now reinstated.
Hello Tan,
It's good to "meet" you. You're very welcome here. Hope you find what you need and share more of your story.

"twas nissan fourteen when your glory was seen, your love justice wisdom and might.
" am i the only one who has this stuck in their head thanks to all the memorial talk?
it is driving me bonkers!
yeah, i did.. i called her this afternoon, after i got home from work (to check on my dad, and, well, you know...).
it turns out she picked up the nasty flu: fever, chills, scratchy throat, snot everywhere, sensitive eyes, she sounds like grover.. i gave her all the advice she usually gives me, including her favorite (and one that often kept me home from meetings in my youth), "stay out of the night air for a few weeks...".
to which she responded, "but i have to go out tonight.
Shoshannah,
Chag Semeach! So, another Pesach celebrant in our midst....I'm here shvitzing over the preliminaries myself (not my favorite holiday but it means a lot to my hubby's family and I'm the only girl left to do it).
Are you Jewish? Married to a nice Jewish boy? I'm married to a not so nice Jewish boy myself
Well, don't work too hard--enjoy the fruit of the vine (it's the best part of the dinner)
When do we eat already???
Yom Tov!
~Brigid
anyone else out there shvitzing over a passover dinner (or god forbid two??)?.
this is actually my least favorite jewish holiday.
you cannot imagine the work to prepare kosher and without any leven.

This is actually my least favorite Jewish Holiday. You cannot imagine the work to prepare Kosher AND without any leven. Oy Vey! I actually do it for my husband and his family. I'm a Goddess worshipper at heart--but hey, I'm the good hearted albeit meshugganah shiksa, anyway.
It is unbelievably fascinating to sit and do the very same thing that you learned for years and years that Jesus did in his "last supper". I recommend it to all my Christian friends, if they can ever score an invitation to a seder to take it up! You can understand your god so much better through the eyes of his tribe.
You haven't "dipped the morsel" 'til you've DIPPED THE MORSEL.
Yom Tov tomorrow and the next day!

and i am not a jw.
from what i gather reading this site that makes me "worldly".
anyway, i am embarrassed to say we are both married and have children.
Dear Lookingin,
I sympathize with yours and her situation. The heart, after all, does want what it wants. And many times, a JW marriage is bereft of real feelings, real love.
This will not be an easy journey for anyone involved. Please do be most sensitive to the children involved. They are dependent upon the people who now have their hearts entangled both in a "morally questionable" situation and a cult to boot.
I would not join the witnesses. That is the only piece of solid advice I can give you. Be patient. Stay on board here and educate yourself.
Love and Light,

knocking documentary newsletter #3. spring 2006. www.knocking.org.
a few thousand people have seen knocking already, a documentary about.
jehovah's witnesses.
Civil Liberty Defenders (oh, like letting people die for not voting then changing their policy when it became "inconvenient"? and yea, how do women and children factor in their sense of "civil liberties"?) ?!?!! Medical Revolutionaries (i.e., weren't vaccinations from the Devil at one time?) ?!?!?
Are they kidding???!!?!?!
Well, I have to hand it to them, this is better than the comic book schlock they've been putting out for propoganda in the past. At least this crap has some sense of style.
Whatever.
