At 1 Corinthians 5:11 Christians are commanded "not to keep company" and "not to eat" with a fellow believer who is "covetous" ( greedy - NWT ). What signs of greediness in a fellow believer would make a Christian obey this NT command and begin to "not keep company" and 'not eat' with his or her greedy, fellow Christian?

Honesty: Its true the JWs have faith in the 'organization' ( which I did when I was a Witness ) but only in the sense of believing that it is the channel that god is using to help people understand the Bible. Any first century Christian would have had a similar faith in the first century organization, with its governing body in Jerusalem ( Acts 15 ). Of course, no Christian back then, and no JW today looks to that organization for salvation. Would a first century Christian have believed that he or she could turn their back on the first century Christian congregation and still have God's approval?

Would you want Jesus as a friend?
by scout575 inwhilst christians like to portray jesus as the supreme example of love and mercy ( as opposed to a supposedly wicked 'watchtower god' ), does the bible's presentation of jesus cast him in quite the same flattering light that christians like to believe?
for instance, at revelation 19:15 jesus is described as 'smiting the nations and ruling them with a rod of iron and treading the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of almighty god.
' does jesus sound just as bad as the 'wicked watchtower god'?

Honesty: You make my point for me. Just like the 'wicked Watchtower god' Jesus offers people a choice: Either they believe in him and do his bidding and so receive salvation, or they don't believe in him and don't do his bidding and so receive damnation. There is no difference between Jesus and the 'wicked Watchtower god'.

Little Toe: Had you you read my postings more carefully you may have come to the more measured conclusion that: I like the 'nice' bits about Jehovah and Jesus and born again Christians but not not the 'nasty' bits. I wasn't being judgemental of IP_SEC at all.
As for the genuineness of my question, it was genuine in the sense that I was trying to help born again Christians to see that Jesus can be just as 'nasty' as the 'wicked Watchtower god' that they sometimes refer to.

Odrade: Its not just revelation and the letters that I have a problem with. The gospels too ( including John ) include 'bad Jesus' ( see above posting to Star Moore ). Don't worry 'bad Jehovah' makes me shudder just as much as 'bad Jesus'.

Star Moore: Who are the 'bad guys' though? I know countless lovely people who don't accept Jesus as their saviour and yet JESUS in the GOSPEL OF JOHN tells me that they face the 'wrath of God' (John 3:36 ). I'm not sure I want Jesus as my friend.

Odrade: Whilst there are of course many examples of 'Jehovah being a real bastard' in the OT there are many examples of his being supremely loving and kind. Similarly the dichotemy of good Jesus/ bad Jesus is to be seen clearly in the NT.
IP_SEC: That'll teach me not to make assumptions - I thought you were a born-again believer. Maybe one ot the reasons that Jehovah comes over to you as more harsh than Jesus is that the OT is so much longer than the NT, and that there is therefore more scope for Jehovah to be 'nasty'.

IP_SEC: Sorry for not making myself clear. I meant that many Christians like to portray Jesus as so different from the 'wicked Watchtower god' And yet when we look at the the overall picture that the Bible gives of Jesus, we find that just as with the 'wicked Watchtower god' sometimes Jesus comes over as 'nice' and sometimes he comes over as 'nasty.'

IP_SEC: Is the Jesus of the gospels really as wonderful as you like to think? At Matthew 25:41 he says to those who don't do his bidding: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the Devil and his angels." Doesn't he sound alot like the 'wicked Watchtower god' here too?
