As for the genuineness of my question, it was genuine in the sense that I was trying to help born again Christians to see that Jesus can be just as 'nasty' as the 'wicked Watchtower god' that they sometimes refer to.

Odrade: Its not just revelation and the letters that I have a problem with. The gospels too ( including John ) include 'bad Jesus' ( see above posting to Star Moore ). Don't worry 'bad Jehovah' makes me shudder just as much as 'bad Jesus'.

Star Moore: Who are the 'bad guys' though? I know countless lovely people who don't accept Jesus as their saviour and yet JESUS in the GOSPEL OF JOHN tells me that they face the 'wrath of God' (John 3:36 ). I'm not sure I want Jesus as my friend.

Odrade: Whilst there are of course many examples of 'Jehovah being a real bastard' in the OT there are many examples of his being supremely loving and kind. Similarly the dichotemy of good Jesus/ bad Jesus is to be seen clearly in the NT.
IP_SEC: That'll teach me not to make assumptions - I thought you were a born-again believer. Maybe one ot the reasons that Jehovah comes over to you as more harsh than Jesus is that the OT is so much longer than the NT, and that there is therefore more scope for Jehovah to be 'nasty'.

I meant that many Christians like to portray Jesus as so different from the 'wicked Watchtower god' And yet when we look at the the overall picture that the Bible gives of Jesus, we find that just as with the 'wicked Watchtower god' sometimes Jesus comes over as 'nice' and sometimes he comes over as 'nasty.'

Nicolaou: Faced with such a depraved portrayal of the 'god of love' Christians have a choice of: A - God is psychopathic B - the account is fictitious C - the 70,000 Israelites who were executed just happened to be 'wicked' anyway and deserved to to be killed by god. Shazard: Whilst I'm no longer a JW ( and would never go back ) I have to say that your view of JWs is distorted to say the least. As a JW I ( and all other JWs ) had total faith in Christ and in the redeeming power of his sacrifice. The life of a JW who is a true believer in the Bible is a very happy one, as mine was. The view presented by many people on this site that the JW religion is some kind of nightmare cult is simply wrong. It is a sincere group of genuine Christians who love God, Christ and their fellowman. The idea that they need to be rescued to 'true Christianity' is misplaced.
The reason that I left JWs is that I gradually came to realize that the Bible is the work of man rather than God. A quick look at the many chat forums for ex-born again Christians shows how countless born again Christians are coming to the same conclusion as I did regarding the man-made nature of the Bible, and turning their backs on Christianity. Maybe you'd benefit by checking these websites for yourself?
