RevFrank: If the WTS does misrepresent the writers that they quote, maybe they're following the example set by the gospel writer Matthew, who BLATANTLY misrepresents the OT writers that he quotes in trying to prove that Jesus is the Messiah. Compare Matt 2:15 with Hosea 11:1, and Matthew 2:18 with Jeremiah 31:15. If Jesus really was the Messiah why did Matthew have to resort to such obvious 'spin'? Are you going to criticise Matthew just as severely as you criticise the WTS?

Is The watchtower Dishonest When It comes to the Trinity?

" the aim of this publication was to discredit the christian doctrine of the triune nature of god.
the method that the society used to accomplish this goal was to quote from a plethora of resources, both secular and religious, such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, books and historical literature written by individual authors.

Revfrank: I see that you quote Micah 5:2. Notice in the verses following verse 2 that Micah predicts what the 'ruler' from Bethlehem would accomplish. In verse 6 Micah foretells that the 'ruler' would: "deliver us ( the Israelites ) from the ASSYRIAN." How could Jesus be the 'ruler', as he was born hundreds of years AFTER the Assyrians faded from history?

Narkissos: Really? Whilst there may be 'comedies' in the Bible along with its 'tragedies' as in the Shakespearean sense, but just like Shakespeare's 'comedies' the Bible's 'comedies' don't have anything to raise an actual smile or a laugh, unless you know of any specific funny examples, of course?

Slugga: Fair point. Whilst I don't expect the Bible to have jokes in it, I do find it ironic that a book that has so much to say about the human condition doesn't even ( inadvertantly ) manage to raise a smile. The human condition is in so many ways laughable, and yet the Bible ( even taking into consideration cultural differences between then and now ) doesn't raise even a SINGLE laugh.
Can you imagine if the Bible described Jesus as smiling or laughing, how Christians would latch onto that and say: "Look how lovely Jesus is." Of course, the Bible says no such thing.

Unclebruce: It always struck me as amazing ( almost impossible even ) that you could have a book as long as the Bible and yet for it to contain absolutely nothing to even raise a smile, never mind a laugh. The only verse that I could ever find that approaches humour is Zechariah 11:13 where 'god' ironically refers to the meagre value placed by the Israelites ( 30 pieces of silver ) on Zechariah ( and by extension on 'god' himself ) as a "goodly price." Here we have divine sarcasm. Are you smiling Unclebruce? Forgive me if I don't.

Forscher: What indications does Jesus give at Matthew 24 to indicate that his prophecy was to have a dual fulfilment? Is it not simply a case of the 'second coming' prediction failing to be fulfilled within the lifetime of Jesus' contempories, and Christians later having to 'spin' away this failed prediction by saying that the 'second coming' aspect of the prophecy was never meant to be fulfilled in the first century but at a much later time period? Jesus ( or the writer who attributes the words of Matthew 24 to Jesus ) would have known all too well that the first readers of Matthew 24 would have understood these words to mean that Jesus would return within the lifetime of his contempories.

How greedy is "greedy"?
by scout575 inat 1 corinthians 5:11 christians are commanded "not to keep company" and "not to eat" with a fellow believer who is "covetous" ( greedy - nwt ).
what signs of greediness in a fellow believer would make a christian obey this nt command and begin to "not keep company" and 'not eat' with his or her greedy, fellow christian?

Notice that Paul lists greediness second in his list of 'disfellowshipping' offences, at 1 Corinthians 5:11. I wonder how many Christians have obeyed the Bible's command to shun a greedy fellow believer? How could a Christian possibly be sure that a fellow believer really was being greedy? Is it 3 chocolate bars a day? Or 5 doughnuts a day, maybe? Doesn't it appear that these 'inspired' words at 1 Corinthians 5:11 are somewhat LESS than practical? Not inspired of god at all, maybe?
