I was warmly welcomed, and happy to have a place to vent. I will say that it is difficult to maintain close ties and welcomes and such in a online community that is so large. Most forums last a max of four years before conflicts start ripping them apart. So... Good Job!

There is so much evidence around us to prove an Intelligent creator.
by nicolaou inthat's an 'ever so slightly' adapted quote from tophat on another thread; http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/108341/2880755/post.ashx#2880755.
i've been really dismissive of god/s, religion, faith and the abandoning of reason but when it comes to the 'argument from design', well you just have to give it a bit more .
respect?

I think part of the argument behind ID is that people misunderstand complexity. Most things are not as nearly complex as they first appear. Stephen Wolfham has a book about cellular automata and how very complex systems can be created using fractals and infinitely self similar and repeating bits of code.
I think evolution works allot in the same way. Repeating bits of code and whatever sticks sticks. I read something somewhere that put it this way.
"Think about the old example of an infinite number of monkeys typing on an infinite number of type writers. Yes the odds of them completing the script to Hamlet seems astronomical, but consider that the paper has a memory. So when the right letter happens to land in the right place the paper remembers it and always puts that letter there. Then once a complete script has been written, it is easy to duplicate over and over. Now think about it this way. Instead of typing the monkeys are throwing simple machines into a pile. When the right simple machine finds a way to join with another one in a useful way it sticks and gets repeated."
I think about the above statement with simple machines in reference to simple chemical reactions. Once they stick in a useful way the machines grow into more and more useful items. The pattern is retained because it works, not because it is designed. Thus says the barbarian.. -

Listening to the special talk this Sunday really put things into perspective for me. See “man’s” governments have failed because every five seconds a baby dies.
But Jebus’s Government which was established in 1914, wait… It was established in 1914? Are you sure? I mean cause that’s a hundred years ago. So.. every 5 seconds a baby still dies even though Jebus has been ruling for 100 years?
Ok..
See here is what really happened. After kicking Stan out of heave Jebus and Paul went on kind of a bender in New York. They got some more Jewish girls pregnant, and when Jebus went to inspect the churches of the day in 1918 he was still a little hung over. Considering the extent of the bender it isn’t a surprise that now a hundred years into his reign as king he is still sleeping it off.
I’m sure he will get his but in gear soon though cause he only has 900 years left. -

How would you build a World from scratch?
by edmond dantes inhave you ever done diy or made something from scratch and stepped back and thought something isn't quite right ,it just doesn't look right ,it doesn't work as it should and it takes days before you figure what's wrong?
well that's how i view the concept of god as the creator.nothing adds up , the proposition just doesn't look right.maybe the stories in the bible looked right when they were first written and people accepted the bible's statements at face value, but the longer i live the more sure i am that the concept of an almighty creator as expounded in the bible just doesn't add up,it doesn't look right.there must be another explanation waiting to be discovered.. with all this in mind let us imagine what really happened right at the very beginning but try to make it logical if it is at all possible.how would you go about creating a world like ours ?

Probably use C++ for the underlying architecture, then blitz3d for the vector graphics. Big project though probably have to get some help. Some kind of collaboration forum, even if that would make it hard to agree on the parameters.

What do we have to do to get Gods' Attention
by LouBelle inthis is *if* you believe in god / a god / gods.
there are moments when i sit down and have a conversation, almost with myself, because even though i am looking up at the heavens/searching my soul, there is no answer, no supernatural feeling, it is quiet and still, but i speak the words just in case there is something listening.. if there is a god and he is all that he claims to be through all the religions on this earth, why doesn't he rule us as a god should?
why doesn't he come on down and sort out this world?

I will say that for a long time I really tried to reach out to god. As a believer and as a non-believer. I prayed, I read the bible, I looked into non-bible faiths. I think I put in enough effort for god to have reached back out to me and fill me with some kind of feeling or spirit or faith that he was there and that he gave a damn.
But he didn't.
Which leaves in my mind three possible reasons.1. god is incapable of reaching out to me because I am flawed. But since I am his creation this is his fault not mine. 2. god is able to reach out to me and is choosing not to do so, either because he has rejected me or is testing. I am not really comfortable with either option. 3. god is imaginary. Like Santy Clause.

conversations starters for field service
by megaflower in1. why do we grow old and die.

3. what is the purpose of human life.

1. Why do we grow old and die? – Well there is a special part of the cell called a telomere. When a cell re-produces (splits) the telomere breaks in half (sort of). As the chain of telomeres gets smaller and smaller the cell ages. Once they are gone the cell dies. (sorry dumbed down for the dubs.)
2.What is the condition of the dead? – Well the dead are in many conditions. Some are buried, some are embalmed, and some are cremated. There are some people who believe in a future resurrection that have themselves frozen in the hopes that one day science will be able to revive their bodies. Some of the dead are bloated and bleached waiting to be discovered. Some are chopped up in hefty bags.
The saddest condition of the dead is our “lost dead loved ones”. If you have a lost a dead loved one, you should find them. Try checking the morgue. The dead like to hang out there.
3. What is the purpose of human life? – Whatever you decide it to be, if you believe in free will. If you believe in a deterministic universe though. Your purpose to be the sum result of the past +the present. -

The guy is playing it fairly smart in my opinion. If I were an indie filmmaker and I knew I had a captive audience of six million (give or take a few apostates) and knew from experince that the JW's would market the thing for me I might go for it. I remember when this thing came out I got dozens of e-mails from dub friends telling me to buy this crap. There were sisters here locally that set up "screening parties" and such. He did a movie that he knew would have a strong (and free) marketing arm. I am sure he made some bank as well.

Evil, free will and the bible.
by Anti-Christ inmost christian and other deist will us the free will argument to explain the existence of god and evil.
in this topic i would like to examine the flaws in this argument.. what is free will?
it's the capacity of rational agents to choose a course of action from among various alternatives (that's one definition).

Really enjoying everyone's comments though. Sorry for my rather simplistic two bits.
