when i first read about the disease called lesch nyhan, i was so terribly angry. i thought, "how SICK can satan really be to create such a horrible disease".
it is actually comforting to think that god doesn't care, 'cause he doesn't exist... if that's what you believe...
anyone familiar with this disease? or others that blow your mind?

Do you still pray?
by undercover in(helps to put something in the subject line .
it's that time once again for yours truly to try to channel minimus and ask a pertinent question sure to spark a lot of interest and debate amongst the ex-jw community.
the question: do you still pray?.

a sister, who doesn't know she's an apostate yet, asked a group of us what the deal was with prayer. she was feeling discouraged and disillusioned because some good ol' faithful single mom had a part at an assembly and explained that she had prayed long and hard about her situation and her wishes were granted so that her kids all grew up to be pioneers and elders and elderettes and vice principals of the secret society (yadda yadda yadda). meanwhile, the poor ol' single mom, living the same situation, thought she was praying hard enough... but nope.
*************************
however, on a side note, tonight while walking my dog and smoking a sweet cigarette, i prayed to the lone dying star with its waning light. twas nice.

I BELIEVE THIS IS AN OUT AND OUT LIE
by Gill inok. i've just read this in the march 2006 - i reckon its an out and out lie and i challenge anyone to find a school where this is happening.. this is in the young people ask section:.
'how can i say no to sex at school?'.
"every day, kids are talking about sex.
-
Calliope
it's probably true.
if we were allowed to sneak around drinking, smoking or doing pot back in my day, then likely, kids have moved on to other taboos... but that's no excuse for taking JW kids out of school. we have enough ill-equipped JW kids in society as it is.

This question is not meant to be..well..weird but....
by stillAwitness indo any of you parents and/or sons and daughters feel weird about sleeping in the same bed as your parent and/or son or daughter?
is there a certain age that this behavior becomes inappropriate?
i ask this because the c.o and his wife that are staying with us this week: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/9/107349/1.ashx brought along their 18 year old daugher.

i don't think it was weird of them not to want to sleep with their daughter in the room / same bed.
camping is different. but in a house...

the fact that i live so far away is my only saving grace. they've asked me through this whole "ordeal" to move back home... to which i have tried to explain that i need to do this alone. i need to be in CONTROL of this situation (talking the seperation here). so i think the advice about ducking out is good, i just have to figure out a way to say that to my parents without them jumping on a plane - which i wouldn't put past them.
arrrghhh!
why does this secret society hold onto us like this? why can't we just walk away and retain our dignity and family and friends... i suppose that's just another thread.
thanks btw, there's lots of good advice.

thanks everyone, for you advice.
this is all very new for me (seperation, divorce, god's existance, the org...), i'm still trying to figure out what i DO believe...
regarding the elders and my parents, i almost feel like letting things take their course, i.e. telling the elders. answering their questions with my doubts. them df-ing or da-ing me... then i can tell my parents it was out of my control...
i know, i know... i'm a g'damn chicken.

sigh... my parents want me to go to the elders 'cause my husband and i have seperated.

"what happened to you?"
"you've spoken to the elders before when you had to be reproved. what's holding you back now?
"don't you trust the elders?"
"jehovah has chosen these men as guardians in the congregation..."
needless to say, my replies were getting more and more "apostate-like",
okay, no doubt you are already asking "why are you, as an adult, bound by what your parents (who live an ocean away)say, or care?" and the answer is because i don't want them to know my true feelings about this org. i don't want them to know that i haven't even been to a meeting in 2 months. i don't want them to know that i am agnostic. that i'm not even sure a god exists. it would KILL them. they are already losing sleep over me...
should i just call up some elder and simply state "just wanted to advise you that my husband and i have seperated. i have grounds for legal and scriptural divorce. thanks and have a good day."
or
should i keep the charade going with my parents... unfortunately, my dad has some elders phone #, so there is always the chance he'll call on my behalf, and THEN the shit will just fly...
any thoughts?Cal.
