What bothers/worries you most about the war ?

there seems to be quite a few concerned people out the regarding this war in iraq and for good reason.

so what exaclty is bothering you about it, does it involve the very real fact that alot of innocent blood could/will be shed ?

are you fearing this could all be a part of bible/wts prophecy ?

Well, that is what the UN was doing ... but the USA got impatient and never really wanted the inspection routine to work. It's notable that the more success the UN inspectors had, the more the USA pressed for war and tried to disrupt the process.

12 years and 17 UN resolutions later, with France fighting all the way wanting sanctions lifted so they could complete their financial contracts for oil, it was hardly ever a solid front. Where has there ever been any teeth in the resolutions? 1441 was the only one that called for consequences and now, they still don't want it followed through. The only real successes the inspectors finally received came about as more and more US and British troops amassed near Iraq. Even then, the success was very limited and more of a show than anything. Saddam still refused to account for known weapons that he clearly admitted to before.

In fighting Saddam and saving the Iraqi people, yes, that would be nice. I admire the British as much as I ever did. Too bad some of the populace there have forgotten the lessons they learned over 50 years ago in dealing with tyrants.

Yes, Termite, although I support this action, it does sadden me that it has come about. It didn't need to if only the UN nations had stood together long ago and showed Saddam a show of solidarity against his refussal to disarm. Faced with the entire world against him, he would have had to disarm and not a shot be fired. With all the support he has received, he now feels he is invincible and war is once again upon us.

Diplomacy has failed over 12 years to do it and too many showed little or no backbone to stand solid opposed to him and demand he disarm. You cannot win the peace through weakness or appeasement of tyrants, but only from a position of strength. It's the only language they understand.

Confusion about support for forces and support for war

i think they are taking advantage of the fact that people will naturally support "our forces" to make out that people are then supporting the governments actions.

to put it another way, just because people oppose the war does not mean that they want "our forces" to lose.

As for not wanting people to die, I have to agree with you. But, people are already dieing, are they not? Saddam has shown himself to be ruthless and unforgiving of any who disagree with him. He cannot be negotiated with and has shown he will do whatever he wishes. His sons are reported to be even worse than he is. To me, that killing deserves to be stopped too, just like when Kosovo was invaded.

Killing is killing, yet, it seems the left is all too ready to ignore certain killing yet cry about the possibity of other killing. Israel should stop killing too, but when they are continually suicide bombed, how are they to stop too? Saddam and his regime are killing continually too and also need stopped. Yes, some will die in the process, just like WW2. But, some are willing to make the supreme sacrifice to stop the greater killing.

I'm all for being against death and killing, but let's be consistent and be against all of it, not just some of it.

What bothers me most is that it didn't need to even happen. A show of solidarity from the UN and not useless resolution after resolution, could have avoided the entire thing and forced Saddam into disarming without a single shot being fired.

Since France and Chirac seem to love him so much, France would be a logical choice to me. Maybe he could even become Chiracs assistant, until he had Chirac killed and took over the French government. Could that be why Chirac hasn't extended the invitation to him?

Don't compare the situation with Hitler; Saddam has'nt invaded the US or Britain, that's the point, that's why we have all the wrangling about the legality of the whole farce.

Hitler didn't invade the US or Britain either, although he bombed the daylights out of Britain. But, Saddam did invade Kuwait with plans for more invasions. After his defeat, part of his surrender agreement was to do certain things, like disarm and end the oppression of his people. In the 12 years since, that has not been done to any degree to ensure the safety of his neighbors.

Who all helped arm him is now a moot point. He has used these WMD on his own people and apparently has plans to use them again, even though it is said he doesn't have them. He has had 12 yeras to accomplish this and has yet to show even the UN weapons inspectors cedible evidence of it being done. Destroying a handful of missles isn't actual disarming, but more like buying time.

My biggest worry is that he shares these weapons with ones like Osama Bin Ladin and uses them elsewhere, even in France. They are fanatics and will stop at nothing to force their view on others. Britain and even France would not tolerate a group as that operating inside their country and would put their insurrection down immediately. Why they wish to now tolerate a regime that just may be supplying support to international terrorism, terrorism that has affected their very own countries in the past, puzzles me, other than the money they stand to make if they get to fulfil the contracts they signed with Saddam.

Like anyone didn't expect casualties or attempts at retaliation? Do we hide out and do nothing out of fear of terrorists? If they succeed in getting everyone to cower, where does it stop? Could it eventually get to where they demand your women wear Burkas and stop going to school too and stay home and be third class citizens with no voice or vote?

If any of you want to hide under your beds and give in to terrorists thinking you will be safe, go right ahead, you won't be. The only way to be safe is total annhilation of terrorism and not giving in to their demands. And, yes, I also believe it applies to the IRA and American White Supremacist groups.

It's not always a pretty world, but could be much worse with Saddams eventually calling the shots for all of you. Giving in to terrorists out of fear of reprisals could result in that very scenario.
