  Wasa, thats why I said "captors," not the Iraqi people. Let us not forget, it was an Iraqi that ran through the desert to the Americans to let them know she was there.

  Currently, the parent's of Sgt. Walters, who was killed in that ambush, are speaking out too about their son being left out of the story. Early reports of her heroism seem to be false, but what about those who fought til killed? To me, they are the real heros. That the media has chosen to ignore them, especially Lori Piestewa, (the Hopi Indian woman who died shortly after the ambush) is obscene.

  Wasa, I agree with you. If a woman can do my job, she deserves the same pay as I get. Maybe I need to make the distinction between feminism and radical feminsim. It is actually the radical feminist that have wanted and caused training standards to be lowered so more women could qualify.

  As for Jessica, I too have been asking why she qualified for a Bronz Star and the others didn't. It appears to me that since she is young and very attractive, she is marketable to the media. All wars have needed PR and it seems she was chosen. As I have stated elsewhere, I don't put all the blame on the military, the media carries a lot of it too.

  She says she can't remember if she was raped or not and also that she never fired her weapon, it jammed and she fell to her knees and prayed. Some doctors have said she wasn't raped, others say she was. Regardless, she endured extreme mistreatment at the hands of her Iraqi captors. I wouldn't wish what she went through on anybody.

  Gretchen, if you'll read the second link I posted above, it gives the outline of how the Army was pushed into lowering their training standards to accomodate women. Compare what happened to Jessica's squad with a Marine squad the next day. The Marines endured stronger training and survived, they weren't captured.

  In a combat zone, there is no such thing as a non-combat soldier. Without proper training, what happened to Jessica's squad will happen to any others.

  The funniest thing is that the pro-war neo-cons will probably still claim that the rescue was as described by the pentagon

  Maybe the anti-war neo-cons should look back and see where some pro-war neo-cons also questioned the veracity of the account as well as the disparity of attention being given to one, while ignoring others.

  now i was only a kid at the time, but some i can remember ....... the carpenters.......goodbye to love/yesterday once more .

  The worst driving I ever found in either Europe or the US was to arrive in Rome, Easter Sunday monring and need to go about 3 blocks down from St Peters. After that, I parked the car at the hotel and we walked or took the bus everywhere while there.

  You ate grits and still like America? That's amazing. I've never tasted anything as vile in my life.

  Oh Stacy, say it isn't so! Then again, you're not from the south. My ex used to compare them to Cream of Wheat, silly girl.

  I like my grits with cheese and sunny side up eggs all cut up and mixed together along with either bacon or sausage. For you "yankees," they are an acquired taste. Used to irritate my ex as both of our daughters acquired the same taste for them I have.

  There was much great music in the 70s, Bee Gees, Beatles, Badfinger, Heart, too many to list here. But, my overall favorite from then was Little River bands Reminiscing.
