WT letter advises JWs not to edit Wikipedia articles on JW subjects

apparently, the watchtower society has recently issued formal advice that individual witnesses should not edit jw articles on wikipedia.

i occasionally edit some of the jw articles on wikipedia.

a couple of days ago i noticed a comment from one of the most respected jw editors to another jw editor on his personal talk page mentioning a letter from the wt society about editing on wikipedia.

and it is not a useful exercise to try to answer every challenge; at people's doors, if they want to debate us, we almost always walk away .
I find this statement particularly ironic, seeing as that is what the Witnesses like to do with people of other religions. Aren't they always debating doctrines with people at the doors? Yet when someone challenges them, they just "walk away"? Ya, that's really "defending the Truth". Typical cult mentality.

Somehow... this struck me as being somewhat ironic...
...I do think that some subjects should only have qualified editors working on them,...
I don't think that anonymity has any value to academic progress.
...especially when you have to ask... who are the 'qualified editors' that produce the books and pamphlets they distribute? ...and why are they anonymous? Does this mean that they have no value to their 'academic progress'?

The term apostate is used freely on this forum, don't you find it offensive

i find the term apostate used freely towards those who have left the org, by both witnesses hiding and also ex witnesses calling themselves that.

don't you find that offensive.

i have been out for over 6 years and the last thing i consider myself is an apostate.

Back to the Thread: It does offend me when I think that 45 years worth of friends and acquaintances think I am apostate, especially when I know that it is them and their worship to a man made organization that is the apostasy.

On the DB, though, I think the use of the word apostasy is kind of cool. Someone said that we own the word. I agree.

What effect does 'Apostate Pressure' have on the bOrg?

will increased pressure - pickets, websites, books, letters to fellow witnesses, have a positive or negative impact on the ultimate goal most apostates have - seeing the organization eventually crumble and fall?.

my take is that more pressure is good.

it makes the 'real personality' of the organization express itself in greater oppression, more demands, greater efforts to isolate the flock from education, career, family, reality.. eventual result of oppression is rebellion.

I think your post is right on.

Pressure is on, and eventually most witnesses get disillusioned if only briefly. They then have the internet available. I woulddn't get my hopes too high that the Org will eventually crumble and fall.

How many NWTs did you own as a JW?

if there ever was a throw away bible, it is the new world translation bible.

i got to thinking this morning about how many i once had when i was a jw.

here is the list as best as i can remember.... 1 old green hardback nwt with the dinosaur on the inside cover.

My oldest bible is the 1963 edition of the combined volumes of the Hebrew and Greek scriptures

Had an old American Standard, brown color in 1961, first WT printed Bible

4 old green 1961 bibls

5 deluxe bibles, mainly black, one red

1 large print w/o references

3 large print with references that I used and retired, still have two new ones.

1 Byington, Living English

1 New English Bible

3 Kingdom Interlinears

1 Emphatic Diaglott

1 Jerusalem Bible

25 Bibles total.

I bet if you throw the rest of the family in, 4 kids and a wife, we must have had double that number.

Astonishing Publisher Peak in Britain for August 2006

well i just got the new kingdom ministry for december and it has the publisher peak for august: 129,482!.

that is quite an amazing total when you compare it to the trend of recent years:.

2006 - 129,482. i wish i could produce a graph, but you get the picture - there has been a dramatic increase in the publisher peak number this year compared with the recent downward trend after the 1995 "generation" change and subsequent stagnation.

I appropriately hate the WT as much as the next guy, but it is not dishonest to count one publisher two, three or more times even when they turn their time in sporadically. It is the average publishers for the year that they are showing.

The secretaries that have stated that are right. It is the way we were trained.

One idea though that might account for the increase other than immigration, is possibly the CO's are under pressure to get the cong secty to get ALL the reports he possibly can. That could explain a small spike.

Sadly, though, I think they (the WT) are going to do fine without us. There's a sucker born every minute, and the places they look for suckers is amongst the lonely and disinherited. They will come in and put in a few years then leave like the rest of us. Pretty soon there will be 10 million witnesses and 20 million that have quit.

Personally, I wish they would implode.

it seems that resurrected ones of the 24 elders group may be involved in communicating of divine truths today.. this may be the most significant sentence in the article (haven't read it in its entirety yet).

i don't recall seeing anything like it in print before.. seems to be laying the groundwork for a "flash of new light", to be exposed probably whenever the last of the 3 old-timers hanging on (barr, barber, jaracz) drop off:.

To think; less than 2% of the count of "anointed" are at Bethel and how many of them are GB, that means the body of Christ is in the field, how much input do they have when it comes to prophesy and doctrine? I'll tell you...none. I have known of anointed that have gone to Bethel with "light" and not made it past the receptionist. The GB says that the other sheep can be used by the spirit to write the WT, well a jackass was used in the Bible to direct the prophet Balam, so I guess todays prophet is talking out its ass too.

Lesterd-----Your statement is so true. It certainly highlights the MYTH OF THE FAITHFUL AND DISCREET SLAVE. That is a total bucket of trash. If they believed that they would be in contact with all whom they could, and the WT would have articles encouraging these people to identify themselves.

Now, if they did that, I'll betcha that about 3-6 million would partake at the next memorial, to use the term loosely.

Someone is all screwed up. Either the "governing body" needs to clean out their ears, or the resurrected ones need to quit telling them false prophecies.

This is nothing but spiritism. NOTHING.

I can't believe that I actually probably conducted that study in the REV book and didn't catch that point. What a turd'head I was!
