Doctrine flip flops

can you guys give me some examples of some of the flickers of light?

a jw threw the "the light gets brighter" thing at me and i want to ask what it means when they flip flop between yes and no on issues.

In the early 70's there was an question from readers (QFR) that made the point that women were NOT scripturally free to divorce their husbands and remarry if he was an active homosexual. (or bestiality)

Several months later there was another QFR that re-defined "Porneia" to include homosexual acts, therefore making it possible for a sister to divorce on those grounds.

Prior to about 1972 JW's could smoke, although it was looked down on, then that was revoked and it was made a disfellowshipping offense.

(in 1969 I had a Congregation Servant (PO) who smoked privately.

beliefs about 1914/1918 prior to current teaching

i saw a scan only a few weeks ago, i think it was from the golden age, and it stated something completely different than what is taught now.

but i don't remember where i saw it...

It was taught that Jesus returned in 1874 and that Armageddon was due in 1914.

Additionally, when that was proved wrong, they taught that Jesus came in 1914 to Heavenly Power. At that time, the GREAT TRIBULATION began and then miraculously in 1918 it was "cut short"(on account of the Holy Ones) or "stopped" temporarily until the Anointed and the Great Crowd were gathered, then it would RESUME and go on into Armageddon.

This belief was taught until 1966 or 1967.

the three brothers on the comittee were:

Congregation Servant

Assistant Congregation Servant

Bible Study Servant

These three made up the 'congregation committee'. To be on the comittee was a real power deal for young brothers. I was on the "comittee in 1969 when I was just 23 years old. How would you like a 23 year old deciding your everlasting future? Back in those days, disfellowshipping was not viewed as 'discipline', but rather a turning of the person over to Satan for destruction.....HONEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

The congregation servant had a lot more power in those days. The other two did not share his status or equality, therefore his opinion usually was the final opinion.

There were lots of df'ings but less people in the org so less people in trouble.

It wasn't better back then.

I agree about Sharpton and rappers; BUT it is one thing for a black person to use the n word. Stupid and demeaning, but not a racial slur like this. If they use racial slurs against whites or Jews, they deserve the same treatment as Imus.

Not long ago, Sharpton called NYC "Himey Town".

Double standard.

I always like Imus. He portrayed bitter old grouch and was a 'shock jockey'. His comments were ALWAYS inappropriate. His particular comment about the basketball girls was not funny nor should he have said what he did.

I wish the black community would work on their real problems. Seems like everyone can be rascists but them.

Really good point.

If you claim your decisions are guided by holy spirit, but feel nothing, barely study, and most times see your past decisions were wrong - don't you know in your heart that 'god' is not using you? Aren't you the most reprehensible for continuing to convince people that you are special and being used by god? Does anyone grieve for Jim Jones and claim he was just misled?

Garybuss and Mouthy,

You two are favorites of a lot of us. I think your posts on Barber are pretty much the way I feel.

Too much hatred and rancor are not good for any of us. I too ruined my share of lives and families by helping people come into the organization.

Too bad Barber never did see the truth, and he should have, as Franz was right there with him blazing the trail for all these guys.

All of us should allow Jesus Christ to do his job, that of judging and healing mankind.

I have in the past written some pretty angry and hateful posts, especially toward Jaracz and some of the other GB. But I will forgive myself and hope that Jesus does too.

One thing I will say though, it does seem that as high as these guys are, if they don't see the falseness of what they are up to their necks in, it is likely they will receive heavier judgment. (James 3:1)
