i was born in to it, my mother was around 10 when her parents started, that was late 40's early 50's. i've been out of it for 20 years now but still have this crap in the back of my head about what's right and wrong about going to church. i spoke with my dad about it today, never a dub, and he said he and my mom now go to weddings, funerals and other services at all churches. i asked if mom would have a problem knowing i attended christmas eve services at a presby church and he said no. funny now that i'm in my 40's i still feel like that kid sometimes who has to sit still during the meetings and not talk.

who attends a church now?
by meems101 in.
i'm interested in knowing how many, after leaving, started to attend a church.
if so, what one and how did you decide?

JW Children, Holidays, and Memories
by somebodylovesme inmy husband and i were walking through the store today and we passed a display of valentines -- you know, the kind that school kids buy and exchange in the classroom.
i paused and glanced them over, remembering how much i used to love holidays at school.
(husband is an inactive/faded jw; i was never one.

my dad was not a dub my mom was, fortunately no longer, my brother and i had conflicting ideals growing up. one year we could attend the holiday parties at school the next year we would be taken out. really strange. i remember when i was my mother caught me making a valentine for a very special friend of mine, she voiced her opinions to me and then got out the watchtower and awake volumes from years past and left them open at my place at the dinner showing how valentines day is pagan and we should not celebrate it.

Life in Bethel & Ex-Bethelites know if the GB prayed together?
by Sheepish ini have always wondered how seriously they took this dispensing doctrine thing.
do they all get together and actually pray or just have meetings?
ex- bethelites say they wrote doctrinal articles for the watchtower or awake.

When was the last time a witness knocked at your door as a friend, not FS?
by JH in.
although i've been bapized back in 1988, and never was disfellowshipped, the last time a jw came over here as a friend, was about 15 years ago.
oh, and i'm not shunned..... the only witnesses who knocked on my door in the last 15 years, were elders, in "uniform" in the field service.. now, imagine if i was really shunned......

several years ago they showed up in the summer. i told them i had been one of them but left because i didn't agree with the teachings. they came back a few more times, once armed with books i should read, told them no. haven't seen them since.

Sad and True
by KW13 in.
ah, i am 17 and my mum is just 40.. she hasn't planned for her pension, she won't dedicate to a proper job or anything though i am trying to push her into anything.. the thing is, i don't just want her out of her faith, i want her to have a future where she can live and retire, she can't work forever and what if she got sick?.
ah, it drives me crazy what the witnesses do, maybe one day she might wake up, get angry with the wbt society and sue them!

i agree with serendipity, she is your mother and some day you may have to take care of her. you need to love her but go on with your life and make wise decisions.

Jehovah's Witness skating parties were da bomb!
by PaNiCAtTaCk inwas this just a local arkansas thing or were jw's everywhere getting jiggy at the skating rink?
we used to have awesome skating parties and witnesses from 150 miles away would come sometimes.
or sometimes we would drive that far to go to one.

Blondie I remember that article. it was so ridiculous. when i was a kid we used to have end of school year parties for all the kids. and one year, gasp, we had a treasure island theme, my mother was called to the back room because there was the skull and crossbone on the invitation. that was in the 70's.
the year before i graduated from high school (82), there was a group that was a year older than me, they were only permitted to go to the prom as a group. when i went to mine, i went with a really great guy who was always at our house on sundays after the meetings. a couple of years later he was df'd for dating a divorced woman with a child.
