Strange Aussie Language...
by zeroday inso i'm out in california a while back visiting my father and sister.
my fathers 4th wife is from new zealand (no he's not a jw).
at the same time her son and wife are also visiting from new zealand and they have 2 children 6 and 9. well the wife is out in the back yard and me my sister and father are in the kitchen when the daughter in law comes running in saying, "i need a plaster, i need a plaster" i just thought "yea i need to get plastered too.

truth seekers vs. truth knowers.......Interesting thought
by PaNiCAtTaCk inpeople should be "truth-seekers", not "truth-knowers".
it's the truth-knowers that cause problems b/c they think everyone is wrong and that promotes intolerance.
whereas truth-seekers are open minded and always ready to learn new things abt the many different truths out there.

Great point Panic ,I always made the point on the field service that if someone at the homes I called on showed me something better than what I knew I would accept it.
That's what got up my nose about the GB when all reasonableness was dismissed by them!

Welcome Deadwood and thanks for the experiences, I shall share a couple too......
Working rural territory with single mid 40"s German brother who had a penchant for chasing young sisters as soon as they grew up into women, well he is a bit of a nutter, we knocked on this door and after a couple of seconds he says in his loud voice whilst grabbing his crotch "Oh jeez I need to go for a piiiisssss" leaving me to pray to God no-one came to the door!!
Now this one has puzzled me for years and I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced any thing like it - a sister asked me to call on a man who she left a book with and see if I could witness to him ,well , he was home and on opening the door I saw a large petagram on the wall ,his house was untidy along with himself and he handed the book back to me saying he read it and was glad he read it and had made some pencilled in comments. So I left and found everyone else had left the field so I proceeded walking home . On coming to a street corner ,across the road two men drinking large bottles of beer appeared from the side of their house looking very threatening at me. I stopped on my tracks and felt this tingling rush all over my body and it felt like there was thousands of angel whispering to each other behind and next to me. Next they lurched forward at me saying "what the f... are you doing here " angrily with their bottles menacingly held as if to hit me.
I was stunned but then suddenly i felt my legs move forward and my moth said "well I'm here to give you this message about the Kingdom of God from my bible" and instantly they withdrew walking backwards to their front door, and on closing it said in fearful tones "OK see you later"
Well I had never had such an experience and as soon as they shut the door I felt the angelic prescence disappear. I know this sounds like a classic Wacthtower story but his happened to me! I'm not here to turn ones back cunningly to the Society but when I told a few people of this, ones I thought might believe it they all treated me as though I was weird and I think they would only ever believe it if they read it in a Watchtower . I've often wondered about this experience and now that I have left it has come back at me again since I don't go to meetings anymore.
So is it from the devil or God or am I dillusional, only I can say that it was a real experience but it leaves me with the troubling question that if it was from God ,then I've left him maybe.
But at the same time all the study I've done and reading others experiences in why they left the Org shows me they are so wrong..........help

Elders appointed by Holy Spirit???
by wozadummy indo you remember years ago this was mentioned among the brothers in conversations about elders?
yet i cannot ever recall being directed to a scripture which proved all elders were appointed by holy spirit.
it seems that everyone just accepted that they were, including myself , and yet how is this possible considering how many i've seen were corrupt when appointed.. any others think about this when in the org

Thanks Blondie for refreshing my memory on those Acts scriptures, the first century Elders and Apostles I believe were motivated by holy spirit THEN, but they were annointed ones and as another poster put it things changed in 1935 and again later . The society by this fact shows that TODAYS appointments are man made for I can't see that the Holy Spirit back in the first century would be used to appoint molesters ,drunks and thieves and liars like TODAY. I've known an Elder who had molested his daughter while he was a Congregation Overseer before the Elder arrangement was brought back and then later after a break of a few years was re appointed as an Elder in my congregation - his appontment was helped by him donating land for the new Kingdom Hall! Also last year our book study conductor was reproved and put down from being an Elder after it was found out he had commited adultery with one of his wifes best freinds 14 YEARS before ,he had 3 more children with his wife after this adultery - never told her and was appointed to be an Elder not long after the adultery - i suspect it was the other woman who exposed him after I had spoken to him about it. How can a person live with that kind of lie and look into his wifes and the brothers eyes for all those years?
If I've seen these things we could multiply that by many times worldwide ,so how could they be like the first century appontments , it is just presumptousness.
I've tried to ask Elders about this and they avoid me.

Yeah we seemed to just accept but I think of one MS who for years thought he was looked over for Eldership and when his wife was visiting relatives in the UK the body appointed him an Elder. Well he was at that time having marital problems ,did'nt ask his wife if the appointment was OK with her, and he had a serious drinking problem......well he was full of spirit OK but not that holy!!! Funny how our minds get blocked to reasoning on these things when your in.
