Movie: The Truman Show = Jehovahs Witnesses? Anyone seen this movie?
by Trojan inby now, i realize there are a couple of good movies that help to understand the situation a jw finds himself in, once he finds out the truth about "the truth".
like: the village, the island, stepford wifes.
i find that these movies help me to understand the situation of being trapped in a cult and the mixed emotions about finding out and the courage and strenght needed to leave.

1996 - Lars von Trier - "Breaking the Waves" - Amazing movie - any ex-jw who got df'd will feel this close to their heart. "Divan" - movie about a hacidic woman who breaks away. And maybe the best i've seen - "The Devils Playground" - Documentary on what Omish kids do once they turn 16 - Beautiful.

Just watchin out for my boys
by DigitalFokus inguys beware
police are warning all men who frequent clubs, parties and local pubs to be alert and stay cautious when offered a drink from any woman.
many females use a date rape drug on the market called "beer".

I really appreciate you putting this out there DigitalFokus, this is really important for men on here and all men to hear. You guys may think to yourselves this rarely happens and when it does is happens in strange and far away places. I know how you feel I felt and thought this way too, "something like this could never happen to me." Well as crazy as far fetched as it sounds look fellas it did. One night me and a few of buddies went to the local bar to hang out shoot some pool and have fun. A girl came up to me and starting talking. Naturally I thought she was being friendly and just wanted to have some quality conversation. But about 10 minutes into talking she asks the bartender for a pitcher of beer. I was reluctant at first of course, but I drank 1 glass and then a second, and then eventually five. Next thing I knew it was 1 hour later and what I thought was just a girl looking for a friendly talk turned into a nightmare. Slightly drunk and not fully understanding what was going on she drove me back to her place. What happened next is too painful and too gruesome for me to describe in depth. Lets just say she had her way with me. ~single tear~ Next thing I knew this became a regular occurance, and next thing I knew we were in this thing DigitalFokus mentioned - a "relationship". She made me listen to her feelings, buy her dinner, take her to the movies, buy her jewerly and other horrifying things I wish not to recall. After a few months of this, she eventually left me because "she felt too restricted" as she said. I was left confused, distraut, bewildered, and with a couple thousand dollars less in my savings account. All of this horrible experience started because of this "beer" that she made me drink. Listen guys dont make the same mistake I did. ITS NOT A MYTH. It can happen to you. ---- Jonathan

Did the elders contact you 1 year after being DF'd?
by JH in.
elders are supposed to meet everyone once a year, either df'd ones or inactive, just to try to bring them back.. in my case, they usually try right before the memorial.
how about you?.

I"m thinking of going to the memorial this year at some congregation they dont know me. And when The wine comes to me drink the whole thing - and then after let out a big Ahhhhh - "Now that was tasty" and just keep passing the empty glass to the next person. And when the crackers come to me - pull out some hummus from my bookbag - and start dipping them in the humus and chow down.

I say just start getting faded. ;-) No seriously bro. You are in such a tough situation, and I have heard of people going different ways with it. Personally I was an MS/Pioneer (unfortunately), my whole family like 5th gen on one side and 4th gen on other are all jw's. My dad was presiding oversear, my my pioneer, uncles elders, blah bblah blah you know. I decided to stop going to meetings when I was 18 because I had lost my faith, I wasn't doing anything bad at the time. Then when I was 19 I decided to experiment with the usual stuff we missed out as jw kids, you know murder, cannabalism, incest, exc. My father at this time told me just to disappear and fade away and just become inactive, but I was bull-headed, I wanted the j-hovers to know that I was out in the world having fun. I wanted to get df'd, not disassociated. I actually got reproved for weed and then df'd for more weed, sex, cigs, exc. I"m going to be 22 next month - and will be df'd for 2 years next month as well. And you know what - looking back now - I wish I would have just faded. And I wouldn't have told you that the first year, i'm telling you that now. Losing my entire family, friends, and going through the stuff was not worth it. Now you may want to get df'd - for the principle of it - that was a big part for me - plus wanting people to know I was livin it up rock'star style. hehehe. And I think principles are important, very important. And I figured I want to be DF'd from this religion, go out in flames. But - even though the whole situation is screwed up - and your family may cut you off or at least treat you much differently - eventually when you get out in "the world" - or reality - you may want to do some things that break the rules - and may want to hold off for a while so you dont get that df'd title. And eventually you may be living a true "worldly" lifestyle - style on brotha if you do. hehehe. And you may not get df'd at that time - because it's been so long. And in principle it really then means nothing - but because jw's are so screwed up and as you know - that df'd thing means the world to them. And when I was 19 I didn't even want to see my family ever again - I hated them in a lot of ways. You may not and probably aren't as extreme as me - but I regret it. I wish I haven't had to deal with the complete cut-off and horrible things that have happened since. So my recommendation is fade away - even though you are playing games with their crazy self made rules - it's probably worth it in the long run to have a better relationship with people you care about. Good Luck My man - Jonathan
