He is smirking because that marvelous mega church, oopsy, complex, was built by volunteer labor. Won't that sell for top dollar one fine day!

Mark Sanderson Talk re Belgium visit
by Listener inthe degradation of the governing body members continues on.
mark sanderson gives a talk regarding his visit to belgium for the memorial this year and was travelling from korea to munich to brussels, belgium on the day of the belgium terrorist attacks.he cannot wipe the smirk on his face as he relates his experience, with no regard whatsoever of all those unfortunately affected by the attacks.
in fact, he personally found god's hand affecting him personally, allowing him to attend the memorial as planned and a kh dedication.he is that privileged during his flight travels that internet was available to him, enabling him to catch up on current news and to contact branch's.

Being Bad in the Kingdom Hall
by Funchback inwhat things did (do) you or someone you know do in the kingdom hall that was a no-no?.
i remember in the 80s when, during the meeting, three friends and i were breakdancing in the foyer.
3 out of 4 us are happily out of that organization.. as i was trudging through my fade and attending meetings, i sometimes dwelled on how much time and money i wasted during my years as a jw.

Sisters who touch the microphone unauthorized must be presumptuous and haughty. They do not know their place in Kingdom Haul arrangements. Seriously, that's the most cultish, ridiculous thing ever. What were you supposed to do, wait like deer in the headlights for an approved brother to finally come? You saw a common sense solution and handled an awkward moment with grace, shame on you.

Cart "Witnessing"
by Funchback inbesides being a waste of time for those doing it, and being an easy way for the society to inflate its reports of time spent in the ministry, cart witnessing is also taking up space.
i live in a hot city in brazil.
today, the jws decided to set up their cart in the shady spot of the bus stop, where people going to work have to wait for the bus.. ugh!.

Thousands of people go by each day...but does anyone stop? They really live in their fantasy world. Maybe people's hearts can only be scanned when passing the special magnetic field surrounding the cart?
That's so silly.

My grandpa's sister had a lifelong "companion" who claimed to be anointed. As a little girl, I thought they were mean old ladies but I had to go visit them anyway. They acted strange, may because they couldn't just be themselves.

How long can this cult remain with only kids becoming members?
by Crazyguy init's become clear that very few from outside the religion are joining anymore.
if only the kids of the people that are already in are the one replacing the members as they die off and 50% let's say of the kids leave then how long can they realistically last before the downturn becomes obvious?.

Skin, to answer your question, when I attended a few meetings back in February, there were two other women near my age who had returned after 20-30 years away. All of us were in the 55-70 age bracket.
I was going thru a marital separation and was very vulnerable. My mom convinced me to go back.
Sister #2 was back after being gone many years. She was discouraged already, and sighed, "Well, where else do we go?"
Sister #3 was about 70 years old. Her husband had just passed away, and she was a lonely and vulnerable widow lady. She said she'd been away for 35 years, but was looking for meaning, so she came back to the Hall. She was really on board with her tablet and clicking the links to the scriptures during the clam. I really liked her. Sadly, I couldn't tell her why I quit coming because she'd be obligated to report it to the elders. I'd have liked to stay friends with her, but I couldn't tell her the truth.
I don't know about the other two, but I didn't stay long. It was the same old baloney as I left, no, even worse. After the life crisis passes, I suspect the fog clears and the "returning ones" probably drift away.

Who was the poster who predicted radical Watchtower change years ago?
by slimboyfat inwho was the poster, about 8 years ago, who came on the forum and claimed he had inside information that the gb were planning radical changes.
he said that in ten years time jws would be unrecognisable.
many were skeptical.

I remember the tedious afternoons on Saturday or Sunday when my father decided he had to shop for a new suit. His older ones were wearing out from so many wearings and dry cleanings. If I needed school shoes, it had to wait. He HAD to have nice suits for giving talks, even if his kid had outgrown her shoes, or the car needed work.
Hmmm, I'll bet he could've given the same talk in Dockers and a nice shirt, and it would've still been fine. Silly cult.
Edit: Humblest apologies, I meant to post this on the apparel thread. I feel so stupid!

New songs unexpectedly released . . .
by neat blue dog inearlier this year it was announced to all congregations that the new silver songbook would ultimately be made of 150 songs, (matching the number of psalms in the bible).
however, they've apparently changed there minds in the last few months, because songs 152-154 were just posted to both jw-org and jw broadcasting.. https://www.jw.org/en/whats-new/.

In my church, the songs are joyful. The music is contemporary and performed live. The musicians are good and the singers have great voices. We can't be standing there holding song books, because our hands are held up in praise, or clapping to the beat.
Sad they can't put their heart into it, but the songs are clunkers and not very inspiring. 😴 I love "Good, good Father."

Is it Time to Declare that The Great Tribulation Has Started ?
by OnTheWayOut ini don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.
they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.
but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.
-

I could see them screaming religion persecution when they legitimately deserve sanctions for the pedophile cover up. Nothing's ever their fault; they're being picked on. And religious persecution must signal the great tribulation, right? What a slick way to spin this as fulfillment of prophecy and turn lemons into lemonade. Circle the wagons, donate as if your life depends on it, because it does.
Corrupt cult!
