My dad retired at fifty six. My mom inherited a nice nest egg from her father. They squandered the money on pioneering. They did no upkeep on their home, which grandpa gave to them, so they didn't even have mortgage expenses. Dad refused to buy life insurance, because he wouldn't be dying. He died. The house was declared uninhabitable due to mold from years of ground water seepage. Mom now lives in a tiny apartment, rent subsidized by the state. She gets by on social security- no savings, no life insurance, no inheritance left, no end of this system of things, no clue why I'm disgusted.

On my, that is funny. Here I was recently compared to my wonderful cousin who's at Command Center, instrumental in making the videos, using his college skills no less. And then there's me, Virgochik, who is INACTIVE, gasp.
Lol, and some say the videos have deteriorated. Hmmm. Well, due to the love they (don't) have, this cousin is in his early thirties and has yet to meet me once, in his entire life or to encourage me. He's prominent at Bethel but has no concern for family, go figure.

"You owe Jehovah humility and HONESTY" - an email from a JW
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho inhey forum goers.
i'd like your opinions on constructing an email reply to this shocker below.
bit of background about the sender: she is a middle-aged, cheery uberdub whose siblings left when a schism occured in her congregation in canada way back when.

Step back and think it over for awhile. You have a perfect and very valid reason for not responding right now. Your focus is on your son's health. Her email can go to the back burner. Later on, you may have a better idea how you want to handle her, if you want to at all.

Song: The Life Of A Pioneer
by pale.emperor init struck me today how the lyrics to kingdom song 81 "the life of a pioneer" sound almost like a slave song from a plantation or something.
what's also sad is, if you read, you'll notice that they sound not only like slaves, but slaves that are admittedly tired and worn out yet grateful to serve their governing body overseers master to prove their devotion to him.. very sad indeed..
at the start of the day, with the sun yet to rise,.

Flashback: Samuel Herd/Ashland Avenue Chicago
by Phaedra inmust have been mid to late 1970s.. it was when they still published the speakers' names on the light-blue circuit assembly programs.. i was a child sitting in the audience at ashland avenue's circuit assembly venue.
i loved that place with it's own basement cafeteria and baptism pool with a big jesus getting baptized mural behind it.. samuel herd was giving the talk.
my child self could only remember my father pointing him out on the program.

We traveled to Ashland Ave from northwest Indiana when I was a teenager. Scary, scary neighborhood! I remember going to Janesville after that. Now that was a long drive.

The woman in the green top-stretch the pic. There's a face in her left knee. If you stretch the pic, there are a few odd things. Just strange and not necessary. Why do this?

After leaving the JWs - Has anyone stayed with Christianity?
by rulehayl ini recently made the decision to stop studying with my study conductor, due to a situation i found myself in that led to a high possibility of my unbaptized publisher "rights" being taken away from me.
i have since told my study conductor i have joined a new church (to which she dropped me like a hot rock, of course).... last time i posted on here, i was progressing nicely towards baptism, and was well into it.anyhoo, i like my new church, very hillsong-esqe.
so just wondering if anyone else has stayed the course of christianity after leaving the jws, and if so - where did you go?

I believe in God. I don't believe God is present in any Kingdom Hall. For thirty years, I didn't give it much thought. Then I realized you don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water. I attend a friendly, uplifting non-denominational church now and really enjoy it. I truly feel God's presence and love the worship music. It helps me be a better person.
I was always told church people couldn't find scriptures and don't own a Bible. That is so not true! Just another lie from the Org to seem superior.

What is this "religion"?
by Kom 197 infor a long time, i was convinced jehovah witnesses were just people preaching the word of god in a different way than other christians.
i was shown the real truth over the past few months.
i've been friends with this guy for over 5 years.

You would have to become a baptized JW too, in order to have a future with him. Since you already noticed the false teachings, you would have to pretend to agree with things that go against your grain. Could you fake it for a lifetime, and what about your children? No Christmas, no birthdays, no education.

It really makes you angry. My parents were given money to send me to college. Instead they spent it on themselves. When my grandfather passed, they inherited a sizeable nest egg. Did they remodel their run down house? No. They retired early and pioneered. The house had a leaky foundation and terrible mold in the basement, plus a severe rodent infestation.
Dad died, Mom had to move out of the condemned house. She's now in a tiny rented apartment, subsidized by the state, free utilities, and complaining about it. Why did this happen? Because why fix up the house or pay for life insurance, when the end is so near?
Now apparently I'm lacking in natural affection, because I'm retired and not feeling all that sorry for her. I worked for thirty seven years and earned my retirement. We're on a budget because hubby is retiring too. While I worked, she rode around door knocking, la la la. No financial planning on my parents part at all. I blame their naivety and I blame the scammers at Watchtower who encouraged this.
Mom is still urging me to return to the meetings.
