We used "demonized" at our Hall...that's not a real word, either, is it?

Children and school assembly
by dobbie inmy little child in the uk starts school soon.
i wasn't brought up a jw and am inactive but there are lots of other jw children going and apparently are'nt allowed to go to school assemblies.
i can't remember anything wrong with school assemblies and i think it's daft to keep my child in a separate room while its going on.

I, too, was told to go sit in the library, but I finally just started going to the assembly and not telling my parents. They objected to the flag salute when the thing began, it was sometimes oriented around a holiday, or they would have us build up school spirit for a football game, or just sing "objectionable" songs. The elders advised to not put the kids in a group situation where peer pressure might weaken them, and they join in the flag salute or national anthem, or similar wicked acts.

WIldHorses, I love that dish, over toast. Back home, we called it "creamed dried beef."

If anyone went, or is from the DeKalb area, I have a relative who went that I'm curious about, Haven't seen him in years. He'd be in his early 60's now. You can PM me, if you don't mind. He mysteriously departed Bethel in the late 70's, and never married. Hmmm.

OK, I am turning on WGN tv right now! Scanning the crowd... I love the Cubbies, and the nieghborhood too. Hubby and I attended the game the night Sammy Sosa broke the corked bat and got it on film.

I remember an experience similar to tijkmo's. An obnoxious elder put it to a vote whether to buy new carpet for the Hall. He was red faced and sweating as the new carpet was narrowly approved. Why? Because he'd already gone ahead and bought the carpet, had it in storage, and his wife had picked out the color! He had really hustled up the votes before the meeting to make sure he got his way. He would've been out some money otherwise!

It was obvious all the time, but I never realized it, till LongHairGal posted this: The JW's actually have a paid clergy, just like the churches they bash, do! The crusty old coots in their suites with a view in Crooklyn are fully supported and fed, clothed and housed for free! Of course the crusty old coots don't want to lose that, so along comes another special need to advance the worldwide work, and another.
What are the Dubs getting for their money? More refried
beansbooks at assemblies, and the security of knowing these people are spewing forth Jehoopla's pearls of wisdumb as he whispers to them. Put them in a comfy nest, and they will tell you what's news from Jehoopla. Well worth feeding them for life, eh?Another example of how they are NOT different from the churches.
