Oh boy. I see what I'm in for. Mom's assembly is this weekend and I've already sensed a chill in the air. I text her and get very short replies, or none at all. I faded, tried going to a few meetings in February to appease her, and faded again.
Will I be considered as "bad" as a disfellowshipped one? Are faders to be shunned too? I questioned a couple of teachings and got my head bit off. 😱

FYI My JW mom and Alzheimer's
by scary21 inone year ago today my mom passed away.

My mother has early Alzheimer's too. It's making her increasingly bitter about how her life has turned out, with me, her only daughter not attending the meetings, becoming unexpectedly a widow, and the biggy- the end still hasn't come.
She wants me to come out and visit her, but she says mean hurtful things, like "You need to have your head examined", "I don't know what's the matter with you, Virgochik, maybe I dropped you on your head when you were a baby" and plenty more zingers. It's so hard to even call her because she always works in comments about the meetings and demeans my character for not going, when basically I'm a pretty good person, I think. She lets me know how wonderfully the sisters help her out and makes digs at me, though I live about twelve hundred miles away and trips out to see her are expensive.
My heart goes out to all of you and wish you peace of mind. It's so hard knowing how much of their malice towards us is the disease, or their true feelings egged on by the cult. My mom could go at any time, and I may carry that gnawing question forever without an answer.
Sure wish I could blame it on the ALZ, but I've read up on it, and it basically takes the person's personality flaws and magnifies them. If she was always a sour negative person, she may be even more so.
This thread is so comforting and informative. Thanks to everyone who shares their journey.

Question about baptism around 1973- can anyone answer for me?
by Virgochik ini am hoping someone will take a look at this and be able to help me with my question.. i was baptized in 1973, you know, because i was a teenager and old enough to stand on my own when armageddon descended in 1975. .
perhaps elders, or any former elders especially, but anyone who was around then could help me with this question, because i honestly don't recall, and really need to know.. what were the baptismal questions the candidates responded to back then?
were we still asked if we repented of our sins, turned around, and were being baptized in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit?.

It irks me when they trash talk the government, yet I recently met an older couple who lived in free housing with free utilities, had handicapped license plates and got SSI benefits. They don't ever trash talk "them" benefits. -

You guys are awesome! Thanks to all of you for the information. It's exactly what I needed. It sounds to me as if my baptism was a legitimate one, standard questions any church would ask, and without that reference to the Watchtower Society that makes me cringe. -

Hello, everyone. I am hoping someone will take a look at this and be able to help me with my question.
I was baptized in 1973, you know, because I was a teenager and old enough to stand on my own when Armageddon descended in 1975.
Perhaps elders, or any former elders especially, but anyone who was around then could help me with this question, because I honestly don't recall, and really need to know.

The reason I'm asking is, I'm attending a non-denominational church that I really enjoy, and I see them doing baptisms. I know not everyone here feels this way, but I personally want to be saved and accept Jesus as my savior. I wonder if my JW baptism is valid, or if I will want to have it redone at the church. It all depends I guess, on what I agreed to in 1973 and what the baptismal questions were. I know the current questions have been changed.

The Big House Forced Exodus
by ttdtt inlong video i guess addressing the many hard feelings of people getting the axe at brooklyn and other facilities.. the gist is - thanks for your help, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I couldn't watch it all. What a disgusting, hot steaming load of hogwash! My impression of him is that he's nervous and knows he's putting over lies and baloney. I hear insincerity in his voice. This isn't someone I'd trust if I met him doing business. Red flags went up for me.
Then there's the actual message which is ridiculous. Really, does God need to adjust so often because he didn't get it right? Is God so similar to a human sailor? Silly, just silly juvenile reasoning. I don't even know what to say for people who buy this stuff.

Why are witnesses all so highly stressed?

Then there's the constant critique of what you're wearing, especially for sisters. I was so concerned that, gasp, my skirt might creep up while seated, and horrors, my kneecap might peek out. I got told once to put my coat over my lap so I wouldn't have to worry. I was so worried about appearance that I barely heard the talks. A wardrobe malfunction at the Hall means your knees were showing!
You'd get talked to if you weren't dressed properly as a Christian sister should be. The stress began before you even arrived at the meeting, followed by the stink eye and loving counsel. Who needs it. Jesus wasn't all hung up on what people were wearing.
