Much as I loath WTBT$, in all fairness, the 2 things are not connected. This is not a "belief" based in JW doctrine. Just something personal to these 2 whackjobs.

so ever since they discontinues the food service at the assemblies and dcs, jws have been "lovingly encouraged" to pack a light lunch to eat.
the secretary at the hall that i am held hostage in said during the service meeting that even a sub would be too heavy to eat, and that a light salad was the best option.
what do you fine people think is the real reason why, in the absence of food service, jws are told to not leave the building at lunch?
Heh. I'm a vegetarian. Wonder if I could argue that my sub *is* a salad. On a bun.
so, we're in the final countdown with the convention just over a month away.
i've talked to a few folks that have already attended it on the east coast and west coast and keep hearing that its the most up-building program they've ever been to.
seems the message is clear that we need to stop being so hard on ourselves and take time to appreciate the efforts we have put in and know that we are deeply loved.
The ones under 18 are there because their parents are there.
The 18-34 ones who are left are in it for purely social reasons - business contacts, built-in vacation buddies, no-tell drunken revelry buddies, automatic baby-sitting buddies (for the young parents), etc.
Nobody under the age 40 gives a fraction of a hoot about doctrine or beliefs or policies.
I tend to agree with sir82. I said it when I was on here initially 6 years ago. I fully expect the collapse of the Watchtower within the next century. Most of the 18 and under crowd will leave when they get a chance. The older generation of JWs will all die off. That middle group, they may keep it around for a bit, but eventually they'll either wake up or grow old and die. People in 3rd world countries with less education could continue to be duped into joining but without the 1st world financing, its a goner.
People the world over are growing disillusioned with organized religion in general, especially the younger generations. They certainly don't want to sign up for what most folks consider an oddball religion that has to go door knocking everywhere.
perusing the coverage of the 2013 dc spewings about apostates, the wt claims that apostates are "liars" and speak "twisted things".
this is their definition of apostates.. now, the reality is that sites such as paul's excellent jwfacts.com, books like coc and isocf, by ray franz, the works of olaf jonsson, penton and others, all write what is true !.
we are careful on here to present that which is true, at least i hope we are !.

Celebrated Thanksgiving with my "worldy" relatives a couple years back. Check.
Participation in interfaith activities:... sharing in false religious songs and prayers.
Went to my "worldly" cousin's wedding - at a church - some years back. Said "amen" to the preacher's prayer. Check.

No outright sectarianism, but whenever my JW parents have issues with being treated unkindly by the elders, I do my best to fan their resentment. - I'll give myself 1/2 point for that one. 1/2 check.

Basicly the same as everyone else has said. The reasons I have heard are:
1) You would miss out on association (really? what if you and some friends all went somewhere together?)
2) You might be late getting back, and miss out on "spiritual food" ( *vomit*)
3) If the brothers keep going out to eat, the in-stadium concessions vendors will make a stink and want to be allowed to open. That would introduce a "worldly atmosphere" (not to mention the vendors sell beer - wouldn't want to make the convention tolerable).
I suspect that #3 may have had something to do with discontinuing food service in the first place.
the general public knows far too little about cults and mind control...and this is reflective of many ex-jws as well.
when i meet up with former jws, either in person or on the phone, im surprised that the majority have never read combating cult mind control.
of course, i am sure many former jws do not want to read yet another publication.

Yea, love how they count each section as separate meetings. JWs love them big numbers. 1+1=5.

The explanation I've always heard (and I think has been printed), is that JWs "support" the faithful slave (be they 8 or 8000) by the preaching work. So I don't really see that they will need to change anything there.
Is "supporting" REALLY the preaching work? I don't see preaching even remotely discussed in these verses.
