JWs Called at my House This Morning
by Seeker4 inhere it was memorial day morning, and i'm out in the front yard watering the gardens when i hear a car pulling up the driveway.
it pulls into our section of the drive and i see it's a witness couple i know in the front seat.

Before I got curtains on the side windows of my front door so that I could screen people, I once "accidentally" opened the door to witnesses. It was a teenaged girl and an older lady and the girl was doing the talking. I could tell she was so nervous, her hands and voice were both shaking. I felt so bad for her and I thought to myself OMG I used to BE her. I took the magazines and gave her money.
I just don't open the door to them now...but my husband has strict instructions that if he opens the door and it's JWs...if they are adults he can say whatever he wants....but if it's a kid or a teenager to be nice to them....it's not their fault.

Convention Report - Deliverance At Hand?
by daniel-p inso i just got back from the convention - yes, feel pity on me... i had to attend all three days, spend money on a crappy hotel, sleep in a crappy town, sit on my ass for 8 hours a day, and all just to hear about the same old crap you can read in any watchtower.
i didn't take notes because not only would my head have exploded from the sheer boredom and stupidity, but i would be responsible for all your heads exploding as well.
are there any highlights?

Anyone remember the drama where Jezebel got 'thrown' out the window or some such?
I absolutely LOVED that one......we had that one in the late 70's and it was our congregation that did it. My dad was in it too. Jezebel and her hand maiden had THE COOLEST costumes. Lots of chiffon and sparkly stuff. I totally wanted to be them!!!!
There was a mattress behind the "window" that they tossed her on. But think about it....one brother actor had to grab her by the wrists and one brother actor had to grab her by the ankles. Pretty racy. I wonder if that would happen today.
Whoever the character my dad played (maybe Elijah?) got hit in the head...and I remember my mom putting lipstick on a handkerchief to mimic blood. Ahhhh, the theatrics!!!!

As for talking to cats, I just let one out into the cold here, and said, as he was leaving "Come back when you're ready". I'm sure he will too.
Stephanus, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! I feel much better.

What is the Future of the Watchtower Society?
by jwfacts inafter reading comments on this site for a while and looking at what happens to other religions i feel the watchtower society has a long future in front of it.
this is bad news all round, sad for us waiting for our families and sad for witnesses waiting for paradise.
the reason i say this is that any organisation with 6 million members, billions in assets and little to spend their money on would find it very hard to go out of existence.

billions in assets and little to spend their money on
What DO they spend the money on? I read a few years back that they made the Top 40 New York Corporations list with an annual revenue of something like $950 million. Now I realize that "revenue" is not all "profit" but obviously they've got a lot of cash as well as assets.
So where does it go? Are the governing body living large? Who's benefiting monetarily?

I was raised a witness and decided not to practice once I reached adulthood, just faded away. As did many of the kids I hung around with. I've had discussion with several of them recently and it seemed like we were all in this same boat...I used to say I was going to form my own religion and call us "The Lost Children of Jehovah's Witnesses". Because after leaving it was like having no where else to go. Just kind of stuck in a limbo where there are very few other people in this world who would even understand. But here I have found a place where there are others just like me. And I've gotten a better education about the witnesses and religion in general than I ever got sitting in a kingdom hall.
Makes me feel like I belong and I'm not a Lost Child anymore.
