I think it's a victory for all of us--when one of us who has left is treated well by someone still in!

An elder's wife added me to Facebook and msn.
by merfi ini da'd in feb 06. hadn't heard a word from any jw since then.. about a month or 3 weeks ago, i emailed an elder to ask if my 15yo was still on whatever publisher list it is now.
when i left, she had just been announced (i think) an unbaptized pub.
so i was curious about her 'status'.

Have to Take Customer to Small Claims Court for $5,000 - Any Suggestions ?

Dear Flipper,
I took a former tenant to small claims just 2 wk ago. It was a new experience for me. The courtroom was small (maybe 40 chairs in the congregation). The judge would call each case, the involved persons stood at their seat, and he asked the defendants if they disputed the claim. If so, he made a future date to hear arguments... If the defendant does not contest the claim, then the judge called the parties up to the bench and he helped mediate a payment plan. Some folks had an attorney present, so the judge called those cases first so the attorney's valuable time (and client's money) would not be wasted. There were people (defendants) literally in their pajamas and slippers there, but I dressed nice for my own confidence. Be on time, no children allowed in the room, and carry in as little as possible, as the courthouse security thinks it's an airport.
I understood that if the defendant contests the claim, that in the next court date you would need to bring all documentation to support your position. I had all that with me for the first hearing, but since my former tenants did not dispute, I did not need to present these. He just approved the payment plan I suggested. Then tenants agreed. The monthly payment goes through the courts to me, so if they do not pay, they are in contempt of court.
If the defendant doesn't show, but had been served notice personally of the hearing, then it is an automatic default. But I'm not sure how they enforce payment.
don't know if this helps you any. I'm sure you have a lot more experience in business dealing than I have.

Bribing the children to serve--by request!
by Atlantis inbribing the children to serve--by request!
request from researcher: is it true that children in the early years of the watchtower society, were bribed into the field ministry work to make a profit to have money to spend?
if this is true, would you know where i could find that information?

My folks bought the literature, but let me keep the money for any that I "placed". Still not a sweet enough bribe to make me like it.

should jws buy christmas stamps?
by badboy inbecause christmas is of pagan origins, should jws buy stamps with christmas themes?
-
nsrn
Wow, I hadn't thought of this for so long! As a kid, I was sent to buy stamps often with specific instructions to avoid holiday or patriotic themes, but winter snowmen, flowers, etc. were okay. I never questioned it.
Then as a young adult, out, I found it a guilty fun to buy them and use them, especially to send to witnesses!
I'm too past that now. A stamp is a stamp. Dad is even using flag stamps, because that's what the mailman sells him (convenience service as Dad is housebound).
Hello, all. I haven't posted in a long time. Read when I can. Carry on!

Uterine Artery Embolization--has anyone had that done?
by nsrn in(sorry guys, it's a girl thing...) has anyone had this procedure done?
it's a treatment for uterine fibroids.
i'm scheduled for it, and wondered if anyone had any first hand experience with it.

Thanks all. I'm scheduled in September. I'm hoping it helps. I was told one week down time maximum, that sure beats a hysterectomy! And if I need that eventually too, then so be it.
Aging sucks. But so does the alternative.

Matt, it must have been miserable to sit through that.
May I suggest you use some punctuation in your posts? Your run-on sentences are hard to read.

I agree. Sounds like serious mental illness issues! Poor guy, what a miserable, sad existence. Those experiences must be real in his mind....

What does your congregation do socially now?
by truthseeker inif you're still in or hear about jw social activities through the grapevine, what does your congregation do now socially?.
my hall does absolutely - nothing - with the exception of high school graduations.
i read a few posts about jw socialising in the 70s and 80s and honestly, reading about it is completely foreign to me - i grew up in the 80s and never experienced the "good times" of jwdom.. it seems most people do their own thing.

My parents are still in, but too elderly and ill to attend meetings in person--they use a speaker phone. But they have told me about get togethers recently regarding high school graduations, house warmings, baby showers and anniversary parties. But not the summer picnics and skating parties I remember in the 70's...
