OMG! My MOM is asking for info???

brief history...my mother (love her dearly) is the most devout (okay, brainwashed) jw i know.

wouldn't hear anything that would cause her to doubt.

my dad converted after 20-some-odd years, so i grew up with the "unbelieving father", my mom had the "unbelieving mate" and we were henceforth treated like dirt in the congregation...plus we were poor.

*sigh* OK... Sometimes I really worry about myself. While I should be searching for a job and sending out resumes or doing laundry or cleaning my house, I just HAD to search for that post from several months ago.

Regarding the missing letter on the UN website... Seems to me that someone posted on a thread 6 or 9 months ago that it was moved. For some reason I seem to connect that find with poster SeatleNiceGuy but cannot be sure. I don't have time to search right now but maybe someone else knows how and where to find it. -Aude.

That's great news! Her mind seems to be opening a bit.

Just a suggestion, though. Don't push too hard or she may get frightened and retreat to the shelter of the elders.

Also, be ready to assist her emotionally. I learned the truth about 'the truth' in my early 40's and felt depressed that so much of my life was wasted on waiting on Jehovah. If your mother is at or near retirement, it could be VERY rough for her.

Strangest place you ever.....

whats the strangest place you ever where encouraged?

over the weekend i was at a birthday party for a close friend.

half her family is hard core jw and the other half are inactive, she, her siblings and her parents are inactive and do the memorial thing, any ways, while at birthday party and one of her hard core elder uncles and his family where there and he was drunk of his ass!!!

See? Now I thought this was going to be a different question....

As far as 'encouragement', my two strangest places were while standing line at my bank (twice - by two different people) and in my hospital room during surprise visit from an edler I had never met after asking me if I still believed it was the 'truth' and if I still considered myself to be a JW.

I Had A Blood Transfusion! Whoopeeeeeee!!

i haven't been on here in years...or many, many months...had just gotten my computer copy of "armageddon okies" and got to reading it and then was directed to this forum by another article and so many memories came back of how much this forum helped me as we left the jw's over 10 years ago.. the most significant thing to happen to me was when i had a second back surgery just this past april.

my blood count was extremely low because of the blood loss during my 6 hours of surgery and they suggested that i should have a blood transfusion.

i didn't even have to think about it...yes...bring it on...hang that little bag of blood up there so i can watch it drip into my veins.

since i've come to the realization and conclusion that i've been living a fictional lifestyle for the last 17 years, i've also come to identify with agnosticism.. .

but one issue that's been taking it's emotional toll on me lately is the realization of the fictitious paradisiac earth.. it was the ultimate goal as a witness- the answer to everything.

even if you had questions that couldn't be answered, you were to "wait until the paradise and ask" when you got there.. .

I think 1911 may be the equivalent of the US 911 emergency phone system. But I am unfamiliar with the other terms.

this was posted in the men's room stall, i hear the instructions in the womens room was more detailed.. this was in addition to having a "bathroom attendant" handing out 1 paper towel per person.. i haven't felt so childish since i was in grade schooll, i had to wonder if all the tall people around me were really grown men and women.. .

I absolutely remember the covered mirrors, long lines for the women's restroom, messing with nylons when the temp exceeded 90 degrees and over 90% humidity and then being told that I could only have 4 squares of toilet paper and one paper towel.

Had to dry hands and wash grimy face with the same wimpy paper towel.

My parents told us it was training for the Great Tribulation and the first few years after Armageddon.

Just Heard Some Shocking News

a predatory jw paedophile micheal porter (uk) who has a 15 year record of abuse including the rape of his own baby but somehow evaded jail now is a member of my old congregation;wimbledon.

words fail me, to think of the years of shunning that these idiots have heaped upon me even by my own family and this piece of shit was seen a this years memorial laughing and joking with the congregation.

strange that this news story slipped passed me when it was broadcast by the british media in 2007..
