Some Confusion - What is this site in regards to JW?

i seem to have a bit of confusion concerning the purpose of this website and the people in it.

perhaps i am not computer savvy and do not understand some of the expressions used.

could someone comment and help clarify.. .

It's the internet. Some people are genuine. Some people take on other personalities and hide behind their anonomity. Foul language from a JW is not that uncommon - even in real life.

The Posting Guidelines advocates the use of clean and non-threatening words.

Advocate, yes. 24/7 enforcement? No. There are just a couple of volunteer moderators and they do not monitor each and every post. Also, sometimes nothing captures a mood quite like a dirty word.

Another discussion was concerning getting a badge for a convention. Another one was against JW beliefs.

I really don't understand why this is a problem or even worth mentioning. As fokyc succinctly pointed out, "The place to discuss anything relating to Jehovah's Witnesses and the WatchTower Bible and Tract Society... or just make new friends!" [Quoted from the home page.] Independent thought and discussion is allowed.

Others have broken down this site for me and now I know I belong here, but I do not know where.

This isn't a Kingdom Hall. You do not have an assigned or designated position. And even better... You can change your mind whenever you find it appropriate. If you have some sort of JW connection or interest, this can be a great place for you.

Witness Funeral--to go ot not to go?

my 78 year old great-uncle is very ill and is expected to pass away within the next couple of days.

he has been being receiving chemo for a few weeks (which he appeared to be responding to), but then he developed severe pneumonia and then had a massive heart attack a few days ago.

he now has a blood infection, and his liver and kidneys have quit functioning.

Sometimes it's a loving gesture to endure frustrating situations.

It's just an hour or so; not like committing to attending meetings and field service for the next 5 years.

Given your close relationship with your aunt and uncle, and the frustration, embarrassment and loss of congregation status that they endured in order to show love and respect for you, I would think it highly appropriate to attend.

Shame on the speaker if he attempts to humiliate the DF'd attendees.

Be kind and loving to your family that has been so kind and loving to you.

Ridiculous JW Story - Just Remembered

i just happened to remember this ridiculous jw story that involved the elders/wt rules at my former congregation.

for many years, there was a building immediately next to the kh.

it was a local businessman, and after several years he converted it to a part time church.

Megan doesn't have Cancer! (Update)

we went on wednesday to the hospital.

apparently she is too young to have a mammogram or something to that effect.

they did however do one of those ultrasound scans and she was subject to a basic physical examination.. it's good news really, although now we need to know why it's happening because apparently she may have to have an operation to remove the ducts in her breast to find out what exactly is going on.

Thanks for the Good News Update! At least you two can breathe a little easier for now.

I soo understand your mixed emotions about being a little 'unaccepting' that it wasn't cancer. I think what you are probably frustrated with is that you don't have an actual diagnosis yet and thus you cannot really move into the 'fix-it' stage.

That's true. I've been having mammograms since my mid-30's. And partly because of my own history of cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma), I have been a little obsessive about developing breast cancer. My doctors have arranged ultrasounds (about every 3 - 5 years) to help with screening. Ultrasounds pick up things that don't show so well on Mammo's. This spring I had some 'oddities' that they wanted to look at more closely so doctors ordered MRI of my breasts. MRI can present TOO much info - it's incredibly sensitive - as it shows EVERYTHING.

The next step is biopsy. Takes about 30 minutes and is not too painful. Biopsy is pretty good indicator as to whether or not cancer is present.

There may be lots of reasons why blood is oozing but it's always good to get it checked out.

I don't know how things are in the UK, but here it's very common to get 2nd opinions. Working in the healthcare industry, I strongly recommend it. If nothing else, it helps educate yourself on the situation at hand and various treatment options. At best, it helps you select a physician that you feel comfortable with and with whom you can communicate well.

Tetragrammaton Tattoo

last week was finals week at the college.

as i was studying for one of my tests i noticed this one guy (early 20s, muscular, four day beard, average college student looking) getting on the elevator next to where i was sitting.

then i noticed he had a rather unusual tattoo.

That's pretty funny.

1912 is nearly 100 years ago.

An yet... If someone is presenting info about WT proceedures and doctrine and tries to use WT material from that time period (1912), well... LOL You just better NOT. Don't even THINK about presenting witnesses with ANY old WT documents, books or brochures from 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960, 1970 or 1980. They just will not accept that it is current 'light'.

Very interesting double standard.

This is an article that I'd actually like to see. Can you provide a scan?

None is showing up here. It took me a minute to remember that there is also a 'Post Reply' button at the TOP of the screen above your Opening Post. That sometimes happens when users post with browsers other than Internet Explorer.

okay, so my girls all moved out and we had three empty rooms and a lot of bills to pay.

so we decided to rent the upstairs room with its own bath.

we also have a three car garage and the single car garage is fully drywalled, has its own entrance and is huge.

Oh! Another thought - not sure if it has been discussed here yet.

Decide now if you want to try to salvage the tenant relationship. (I don't recommend that you do, and KNOW that you can find a better tenant.) If you know that you want to find someone else, find out now what to do to protect YOUR rights. There may be complication if , for example, you accept payment or partial payment from her even though she is late. It sets precedent of accecptance that could work against you. Know ahead of time what you will do if she is a day late with her payment and then stick to your guns.

It's business. And you need to know how to protect your business (and personal) interests.

What a mess you got yourself into~!!

First mistake: Not treating this as a strictly business transaction. You let your heart overrule your head. RARELY good in a business situation.

Second mistake: Not screening well enough. If you decide to re-rent, be sure to call all references (especially formerly landlords/roommates) and a primary question should be about cleanliness.

Third mistake: Allowing pet without HEFTY pet deposit. (Think $500 - $1000) Pets in new surroundings WILL have accidents. Also, a 'pet-free' house can actually demand a higher rental price from people who have good paycheck but also are allergic to pets, dust and dander. Depending on where you live, you might be able to get double the rent you are currently charging. I rent out a room with private bath to a 'working professional person' for over $800. It was more money before I got my cat.

Clarification: I didn't handle this through text. I asked her to meet with me face to face and we did. I only texted her when she wasn't here because I wanted her to come home and pick up the dog shit. I like the texts so in case I need proof in the future.

I HATE texting. Here's how to cover yourself. You can have the face-to-face. Take notes if you want. Send confirmation email to summarize the details of the conversation. Email is also easier to incorporate into documentation files and documents.

My suggestion about the pending payment(s), by 9am on the day after the rent was due but not paid, have her served with eviction. No more talking. It's time for doing. This leopard is not likely to change her spots anytime soon.

I was nervous as all get-out when I first decided to rent out my house. I talked to people I know who have done it well. I have my preferred profile of a great tenant and have only been disappointed once. Even that was not a total nightmare. Just not a good fit for me or the neighborhood. But that's just one negative out of FIVE exceptional tenants.

My preferred tenant profile is someone who has a job and can afford considerably more than what I am charging. Someone who can afford their own apartment but would rather save the money right now. Surprisingly, I have great luck finding people who work near here but actually live out of town. They are mostly working 10 hours a day and going home (several hours away) on the weekends. My nice patio and backyard view offer a great place to unwind.

15 years ago, I rented out a room like you did - at a 'bargain price' - with dissapointing results. Funnily enough, they were also Church People. Well... they were JWs.

I much prefer the busy people with demanding jobs who are tired of living out of a suitcase in a hotel.

Good luck with the current situation. Screen better next time. Maybe present your options here next time and let us help you with the process.
