If you do nothing else today, print out two copies of the 'Child Custody Packet' - one for yourself and one for your attorney. Read it. Know it. Make marginal notes in your copy (as a former JW, you *know* how to mark up an article~!!)
Outlaw wrote: Does anybody have the WBT$ quote that says "The Law prevents the WBT$ from killing apostates?".. His lawyer would have fun with that..
I found this using the JWN Search Feature:
*w52 11/15 703 - **We are not living today among theocratic nations where such members of our fleshly family relationship could be exterminated for apostasy from God and his theocratic organization, as was possible and was ordered in the nation of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai and in the land of Palestine. "Thou shalt surely kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him to death with stones, because he hath sought to draw thee away from Jehovah thy God, . . . And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is in the midst of thee."-Deut. 13:6-11, As being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates only to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. The law of the land and God's law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates, even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship.*w60 2/1 80 - 17 There may be rare instances where a child is so hardened in its stubbornness that even the rod of correction cannot drive it out. In the days of Israel parents were instructed by Jehovah to take such a rebel to the city fathers and they, in turn, took the incorrigible one out and stoned him to death. There were no juvenile delinquents under such a system. (Deut. 21:18-21) So also today, the New World society of Jehovah's witnesses can not and will not tolerate juvenile delinquency to exist in its midst. So, to avoid a possible death-dealing blow by being disfellowshiped from the congregation,
*w61 10/1 597 - **In ancient theocratic Israel such false prophets were to be tried before witnesses, exposed and stoned to death. (Deut. 13:1-11) Today the true Christian congregation may not enforce such a death penalty for prophets of deception who try to induce disloyalty to God and his kingdom. But the congregation can give them a spiritual smiting or striking with the truth of God's Word, even wounding them sorely at heart and in spirit.
I found the above quote from this 2001 thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/3440/1/The-arrogance-of-the-True-Believer
It's also important to remember that, as 'clarity' alluded above, when the JWs talk about apostacy or badness, it is usually from the reference point of their own closed society. And they suppose that *everyone* who leaves their fold, does so because they want to engage in bad things. They will believe this even if there is no evidence of wrong-doing.
Also, be aware that the JWs themselves will view the above quotes as 'old light' since the info was published more than 20 years ago (in this case, more than 50 years), but the harsh *attitudes* that were put in writing back then still exist in the cong. The words themselves may have softened a bit in recent years but the concept and attitude still strongly exists.
Hope this helps.

Many times a restraining order is obtained in order for the filer to further advance their claim of abuse and to garner more sympathy from friends, family and community.
It also serves to get your attention and let you know they mean business.
If there truly is no threat of attack by you, you may want to simply stick with the issue of access to your children. The restraining order unfairly drives a wedge between parent and child - children are being used as pawns in an ugly divorce. Children being legally prevented access to their own parent can wreck havoc with their relationship with both parents. They can become suspicious of the parent against whom it was filed and highly resentful of the one who filed.
My suggestion is to focus on the kids and restoring a good, loving, upbuilding, wholesome relationship with them.
For the TRO, have the kids removed from it and promise to leave the ex-spouse alone. If possible, get someone else (lawyer, aunt, uncle, etc) to let the kids know that they should never have been included in the order.
Hopefully, your spouse was just being dramatic and did not really have just cause to file the order out of fear of physical harm to herself or the children.
We don't know you at all, though, so really impossible to know what really went on.

Yes. My father was a physical abuser of all his children and his wife (my mother).
While my dad was an elder, two of my siblings were removed from the home by the police and placed in the care of Child Protective Service (one was taken in about 1980 and the other about 10 years later. Horrible to hear my dad's testimony in court trying to defend his extreme behaviour. The elders stood by him in support.
Band on the Run wrote: Anything that was precious to me was taken away from me. I hid my desires for protection.
Same in my family. My dad seemed to take delight in smashing our favorite things while we watched. He had this really strange expression on his face as soon as he finished. Like he really enjoyed what he had just done and enjoyed seeing our terrified and crushed faces.
I also took to either hiding my favorite things or not letting on how important they were to me for fear that they would be the next things smashed or otherwise destroyed.
btw - BOTR, I also grew up in New Jersey. Bergen County. Wonder if we have crossed paths.

Follow up from Hi
by WSEV12 ini felt welcomed by the warm response i got to my last question.
my experience has been mixed in some christian forums and i am never sure what to expect but the people here do seem warm.. because i do not want people to feel threatened in any way - though it would probably be help to all - i usually try not to discuss my beliefs but some have asked what they are and it may be helpful to the nature of the question.. right now, i am going through a spiritual search and looking to see where i fit in.
i do have liberal beliefs about god and jesus and am not sure in what church i would fit.

Check out Universal Unitarian. Seems bit of a generic church where you can take what you want/need and leave the rest. I went to Christmas service with some xjw's and felt very comfortable.

Onthewayout wrote: I am also confident that this time of year allows the elders and M.S.'s an excuse to ditch non-JW family that weekend.
Leaving their wives and kids home, alone, with no family - worldly or witness. And no fun or even reasonable excuse to explain away the isolation to their friends and classmates.
Nice that the elders and MS's have something to do with each other while the kids rack up yet another crappy, lonely weekend while all their schoolmates are showered with love and presents from parents and extended family.
Bit of a sore point for me while growing up. As the only witness kids in our town/school district (and me as the eldest of my siblings), we had to take a stand for Jehovah on a daily basis and endure the humiliation that goes along with being so different than the other kids. It was either not saluting the flag, not standing for the national anthem, not participating in holidays, no birthday cake, no commentating on political issues - or, worse, getting permission to write or speak to the class about *why* we are not participating and giving that 'witness for Jehovah' to all who asked a reason. UGGHHH! And yet, when our parents were confronted with an opportunity 'witness for Jehovah' by declining a birthday party or some such invite, they *rarely* gave a witness but rather either dodged the invite with a 'maybe' or used a wimpy 'kids need me' excuse.
And we rarely got that special attention. It was just an excuse.
So could we use such evasive measures at school? Nope. Had to take the stand and give a bold witness.
I want my childhood back. Can I have a 'do-over', please?

School Thwarts Police Investigation - Could this Happen with JC Cover-ups?
by AudeSapere ini came across this article and wonder how soon until suit is filed against wts and/or elders involved in jc's?.
the short of it: a high school reported a rape that occured in the school.
instead of calling the police (or even the campus police), the school officials had the girl write a report to detail what happened.

I came across this article and wonder how soon until suit is filed against WTS and/or elders involved in JC's?
The short of it: A high school reported a rape that occured in the school. Instead of calling the police (or even the campus police), the school officials had the girl write a report to detail what happened. In the meantime, they sent the accused boy home. By the time police were finally called, the boy had showered and washed his clothes thus destroying potential evidence. A few weeks later, criminal charges *may* be charged against the school officials for failure to report the incident.

The Opposite of Zero Tolerance
Yet another astounding story from the front lines -- our nation's schools.
From True's 28 November 2010 issue:
We Know What's Good For You (No. 7,639 In a Long Series)
With "zero tolerance" policies, schools are quick to call in police for even minor alleged infractions of their rules. Central High School in Muncie, Ind., went the other way: when a student came to the office to report she had been dragged into a school restroom and raped, school officials refused to call in the police -- not even the police detective at the school working security. Instead, the 16-year-old girl was told to write a report on the crime, and then sat for 2-1/2 hours waiting for a Youth Opportunity Center employee to come get her. The YOC worker wasn't informed of the nature of the call until she arrived; she took the girl to the hospital, and doctors there immediately called police. "There has to be some basis for which to notify the police," said school superintendent Eric King. "They are investigating to determine if there was an incident," hence the written report. A police investigator said the four-hour delay in getting detectives involved left "too big a chance of losing critical evidence." A prosecutor said he was "extremely uncomfortable" with the school trying to take on a criminal investigation by itself, and that the school had an "absolute duty under the law" to bring in the police. (RC/Muncie Star Press) ...They'll consider that request. Maybe.
There are some updates on the story. Police did find evidence of a crime, and (six days later) arrested the boy, who is being charged as an adult. The school told the boy that the girl had "changed her story" and he could go home! He did -- and took a shower and washed his clothes. "We lost any evidence that he had on him at that time," said Muncie Police Detective George Hopper. Of course, the boy "changed his story" himself when he talked with police, first denying everything, then later saying the sex was consensual. But he also admitted he had "crossed the line" with the girl, who resisted him. Police say when they talked to the girl, she didn't change her story at all. But yeah: no doubt she was embarrassed to have school officials interrogate her, and likely wasn't clear when answering the questions asked by self-appointed (and completely untrained, in a criminal investigation sense) school "investigators".
The police say flatly that school officials "have interfered with and delayed the investigation that is required by state law." Because of the delay in reporting the crime, other students used the restroom, trampling over any evidence there, too.
The Youth Opportunity Center is a "troubled children's center". The shocked caseworker took the girl to the hospital as soon as she discovered what was going on.
"I don't know that I can speak to the delay" in bringing in the police, said the school superintendent. "We are cooperating."
These are the people we're paying to educate our kids. If this is an example of the kind of "professional" school administrators we have, we have too many administrators. I'm guessing we could hire at least two teachers for what it costs for this kind of administrator. I do know there are good administrators out there too, but I'm wondering if this is a major part of the educational problem in this country: too many chiefs, not enough "Indians" (teachers) who do the actual educational tasks.
I'm betting you have something to say about this story too, so comments are open below.
December 4 Update
Lots of the commenters are wondering why criminal charges haven't been pursued against school officials. This morning, the Star Press is reporting that's in progress.
A grand jury was empaneled yesterday to look into the case, and specifically "told they might be asked to determine whether state law was violated in the response by [school] officials", rather than look into the alleged rape itself.
The incident occurred November 9, so it took nearly a month to impanel a Grand Jury to look into what was immediately obvious to me and my readers.

The triple homocide was featured on Dateline tonight. (Possibly a repeat of original airdate Aug 2010).
Bimla was presented as a 'devout Jehovah's Witness'. No mention made of her being an ex-jw.
What a crazy story.
