I wonder if you can be spiritual and religious at the same time??
by Deltawave inok again i would like to apologise as i did come across preachy.
i am not going to debate whether or not i am a bk as you have your opinions either way.

Welcome to JWN! Nice to have you join us. I look forward to hearing your thoughts - once you are able to post replies.
As xanthippe said, there is a reply box a little below these comments. It's just below the bold words that say 'Have your say ... '

The poor and deprived life of JW children.
by Esse quam videri ini find it hard to believe that adults on this forum make such a big deal about not celebrating birthdays, x-mas, easter, halloween, etc, etc, etc.
i grew up as a jw kid and it actually made me feel good, being different from the other kids in school.
we went to meetings.

Being a young male in a misogynistic religion and also having a non-jw dad probably tempered your experience. I was a young girl with a jw-convert dad who worked hard to climb the jw ladder of success. We had *NO* vacation - EVER. What little money there may have been for even an over-night vacation went to kingdom hall projects.
I, too, however, thought I was special and privileged. As an adult, I see my current peers who had amazing and mind-blowing experiences that far eclipsed the thrill of placing a magazine with a kind neighbor woman.
We had some good experiences as kids, but even just one real vacation to remember as a family would be a real nice memory for me and my siblings. You were lucky.

Bible Students Are NOW CONSIDERED JEHOVAHS WITNESSES
by Blackfalcon98 inoh my, while attending one of the boasting sessions.....an elder made reference to recent changes in watchtower terminology.
of these changes, he mentioned that bible students are now considered to be jehovah's witnesses!
this shocked me, so i was wondering have anyone else heard of this new change?

JW doctrine is impossible to keep straight. It's a moving target.
I clearly remember being told to *NOT* say that we are Bible Students (at the door in FS) because that is a different theologic group than us.
I wonder if the speaker really knew what he was talking about...??

Do Kingdom Hall congregations communicate with each other?
by Faithful Witness inwhen asked, my mom denies that they do.... do local congregations pass along gossip or reports on householders in the area?
specifically, i am wondering if they might report on (unbaptized) family members that live in other towns?.
since the abrupt ending of my bs with miss k, i have not heard from the jw's at all.

People talk. Both in and out of the religion.
JWs consider themselves a united, worldwide brotherhood/family. So of course there is talk - both good and bad - about experiences in the 'field' and the various congregations.
There is not necessarily a formal sit-down meeting to 'debrief' on reports from the field but there most definitely *is* talk.
Why wouldn't there be?

People's Court - Fiancee has two daughter but not married
by ShirleyW inpart of the story on people's court this afternoon is that this women's mother wants her to baptize her two daughters in her monthers religion which is catholic, she offered that the father of both her daughters, aged 3 and 18 months is a jw and they both decided not to have their children baptized.. so, she uses the word fiancee, they have two kids and are not married, is there some new flip flop law about premarital sex now, or this guy put on the repentant act twice and was probably dfd a few times, i'm sure he's not the only one carrying on like that, but i found that part of this women's story interesting.
also glad it was mentioned on a show that draws a lot of viewers, it will probably raise some questions with nonbelievers who thought the dubs didn't carry on like that..

I *just* saw that episode here in California. The woman said her 'fiance' was brought up as a JW. He is *not* a practicing JW.
She was brought up Catholic - and is non-practicing. Together, they decided to raise their children with no religion. Just Spiritual.
But apparently, maternal grandma is as big a b!tch as they come. Seems shunned the daughter and grandchildren better than most JWs I've seen...

The 50 Ways to Be Disfellowshipped
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering ... what are all of the "official" reasons provided by elders for disfellowshipping someone?
i know the most common reasons are adultery and fornication, but what about the others?
a couple of years ago i traveled back to my hometown` and one of my old jw acquaintances told me that her grown son had been disfellowshipped for refusing to stop associating with another disfellowshipped person.

Isn't there a new term of brazeness ?? Used as a catchall for miscellaneous attitudes and behaviors that make the elders uncomfortable...?

Don't tell MomMom we're having ham on Good Friday
by GrreatTeacher inmy husband went to work with a terrible sinus infection today.
he works outdoors and it rained today, so i felt really bad for him and decided to cook him a nice dinner.. the local grocery store had a promotion in the month before easter where when you shop there for 4 weeks in a row you get a free easter ham.
we got the ham, i never coded it in my head as an easter ham, just a ham which, for us, is a very nice dinner.. so, today i popped the ham in the oven as a kind of consolation prize to my husband for having to work while sick today.. i completely forgot that today is good friday.

@MNIONC - When you say 'family'... Are you referring to your wife and child or are you referring to extended family and lifelong friends.
It is not clear from your comments which relationship(s) you are trying to hold on to.
