when viv mouritz , former branch coordinator in australia, addressed the special meeting of sydney and surrounding area congregations at the superdome last weekend, he blamed the young witnesses who were leaving "the truth" for the drop in numbers in australia.. at the service meeting this week in one sydney congregation it was announced by a bethel elder that the elders have been told (as if they didn't know already!
) that 2,000 have left "the truth" in the past two years in australia.
this typical congregation of 120 publishers has lost 19 inactive since 1999.. the march 2001 issue of kingdom ministry (australian edition) gives the number of publishers for december as 58,426, pioneers 3,315 and 19 baptized.. in dec '98 there were 58,706 pubs, and in dec '99 there were 58,000.. with 1,600-1,800 being baptized each year, there is indeeed a 2,000 shortfall.. so, who's to blame?

Wendy,
Your to pretty to talk to! Borrowed from UncleBluster to 7of9.
Serious Bear talkin now, you said:
***, she has such a good heart and I know that it hurts her that some of us left. If it comes down to her really wanting me to write the letter I will. But I hope she reads it and really reads it. Maybe I can pull her away enough to see the light. But if she stays that is ok too. Because now I don't know what her life would be like without it. Can you understand this?***
You bet I can. Even though I havn't spoken to my sister's in many years, I would leap at the chance to do so. Like you I would want them to really read it. Maybe if you decide to write it, you could require the caviat that if you do, you expect a point by point response from mom, regarding what she thinks of what you write. Maybe.
I understand that many have given so much, endured so much, for the relgion...that leaving it, may in fact be more harmful than staying. If it was hard for you 8yrs ago...we can imagine what it would be like for someone in their silver years eheehhm 45-65 hope mom isn't reading this. Oh well if she is anything like her daughter...she could be 75 and still looking good eh?
Slap Bear Slap...get a handel DannyBoy.
I know one thing for sure...Mom will be pulling her heart strings..whatever you decide to do. So I must agree with you, it is better to show her consideration and love, than to throw it back in her face.
Thanks for being a nurse. We need all the good one's we can get.
A sometimes thankless job...but you guys are angels in white, when we need you.

larc,
I like the way you think. To hell with their pushy selves anyway!
Just who do they think they are (.600% of all mankind alive that will be divinely cacooned) while eveyone else is being hacked to pieces by by god's avenging hoardes? Well yes I guess they do.
Sure Wendy lets write up a little ditti of confession for em. Let's spell out that we think their little FDS is (FraudDeceitSham...Ham and Japheth) sign it..hand it over...and let all our former friends and family members, coo and ahhahh, over our slip into eternal damnation DA'd with not even the satisfaction of making three elder's grumble about an off meeting nite..meeting in the library. Sure lets make their life easier. Well Wendy are you writing your letter yet?

Being a little tounge in cheek tonight.

JT,
The 3 step senario:
l. Leak a little information, 'everyone will want to be in attendance for this'....'some grand food in due season, coming this summer'...go into hock, sell the car, mortgage the house, take a second job (don't stop auxillary pioneering though), drive less, walk more...whatever it takes brothers and sisters be there.
2. We (big brother-momma org) will be publicly telling the elder's where to get off. Don't you wanna be there to find out what new strings we are attaching? Surely you will want to know if your congregation elders, are doing what mama says. How will you know if they are doing their jobs, unless you come and let us reveal these secret new commands? We'er gonna let you low down peon, non titled publisher's feel like one of the big boys....getting first hand info direct from momma's mouth (usually a bethel elite...maybe the DO or if you live in a particularly desirable resort destination...one of the GB delivers this new food)....Wow a brightly colored new 224 page bound book, with gold leaf lettering...and a title that has to have commas and paragraphs to be grammaticaly correct. Whooooppppeeddeee Do
3. Now for three to four weeks we have to sit through another one of brother elder 'Cant get enough of it'...who seems to work in this new light (224 page book) into every comment, every prayer, every 5,10,15,20,55 min impromptu, assigned, delegated, talk that he voulunteers for, until you can't hardly bear to hear another word about the damned 'new light'. All you want to do is go back to the good ole days, when things were dark and less complicated.
Is it any wonder why so many JW elders...take their families on a little vacation, or trip to europe, or a safari, whatever, after the district conventions....it is to avoid having to return home to all the 'new light' discussions. About 30 days after each of these new feeding frenzies, the brothers return to the dulldrums..all is peaceful again in the land of Jah. Praise the lord.

isn`t it strange that jw`s have such a problem with ex`s?
try as they might to hang their watchtower labels onto me, i just don`t seem to be the person that they think that i should be!.
i think that i`ve become far more honest than the average jw.
Hello conflicted,
***As a result there is a class of people out there who are so gripped by fear of doing the wrong thing or being overheard saying something improper that they can't even express their own feelings to their creator.***
This struck home to me conflicted. Even Jw's personal prayer's to God are stifled, they cannot utter words of doubt about an earthly organization, the unburdening power of prayer....is lost. So imo they are no different than Catholics working their prayer beads, saying the same mindnumbing repetive words over and over again. Even if some of the brothers try to dress up their public prayers, with new words or phrases, they dare not go beyond the scope of 'approved' prayer...lest they never have the privelge offered to them again.
They are hemmed in on every turn, unable to speak or contemplate, anything other than the party line. Is it any wonder, Jw's suffer a disproportionately high incedence of anxiety and depression?
Anyone who has tasted the true freedom that comes from exercising one's own conscience, with all its related freedoms, can never again turn over one's thinking and reasoning abilities to cultish masters.
So glad to be free.

Ozzie,
Wish I had a better handel on this one. Most of the figures reveal a down turn, not the big gains they are used to.
I think a more appropriate question is: How many of the so-called faithful r&f are truly 100% in heart and mind, or are they harboring more doubts about their faith, just hanging on?
If the youth are leaving, they are doing so, based on the real facts of life. 'Out of the mouths of babes' come honest appraisal. They recogonize hypocracy alot faster than their older counterparts. It the kids are leaving, then maybe the parents have already left, if not in body in spirit.
Danny
well someone had to do it, so it might as well be prim & proper prisca to do the honors in the sex forum...... .
this thread is for all newbies to introduce yourselves.
whatever you feel happy to reveal about yourself.
bjc,
Tell your father that his actions were more manly then weak, while many of us were seeking the favors of men, reaching out for status, he was true to himself. Talk about grit...he has it. You should be proud. A real hero in my eyes!

beth sarim:.
beth sarim was built in 1929 as a proof that the resurrection would soon take place.
(salvation, p. 311).
Good job Logical,
Could the unyielding stance on 1914, relate to the fact that the masthead of their premier magazine, carried the date (1914) as a bedrock teaching for most of that 120yrs?
Pretty hard to bury 10 gazillion magazines...even with an in-house paper drive!

Six,
You really had me going there for a minute. Over on H20 there is a poster J92 (aka bibleman) who posts pictures of clouds....interpreting them as representitive of himself...being chosen as the Christ.
Whew thank 'god' it was only God from Kansas!
Wine is coming dear.

i have read with interest the discussions on this board and many good point have been well made, especially uncle bruce.
but over and over i keep thinking why do we need a god??.
are we such weak creatures who stand by and hope and yes i mean hope that there will be an end to injustice??
Uni girl,
I agree with Java, a great topic for conversation.
It is really good to observe that people here on this forum, carry on such conversations, without rankor and spite. It really is a treat for me, kinda like being released from a war torn dictatorship. I salute Simon and the rest of this forum membership...for setting the example. I really hope it stays this way.
Java and Frenchy your thoughts on God/religion were excellent. Uni girl it is obvious you have given alot of thought to this age ole dilema. It is a subject that while ensconsed in Jwdom, one cannot really consider, without a bucket full of guilt and resultant anxiety. It took me several years after leaving, to allow myself the privelege of thinking for myself. This must sound funny, to anyone who has never turned their entire life over to a cult, but it is a fact.
Uni you will be a real asset here, glad you decided to post.
