Animal,
Worth the read.
Sounds like your one of the minority who makes it. Still riding, and a Harley at that.
Glad you shared your experience, looking forward to reading more about your life as an 'outlaw'.

taming of a beast.
it was back in 1993, the last day of work before christmas.
70 of us were laid off that day (after 6 months notice), and left at lunch, never to go back.

my most painful confession
note to simon: i will use some expletives, but i hope that they will be retained as this is intended to be an otherwise civil and thoughtful post to all my fellow ex-jws.
please read on, as this is most painful.
Jim,
I have watched your recent journey toward reconciliation with mortality. It is painfully evident you are prepared for the worst, yet you have demonstrated to us all, a positive cathartic way to deal with what has to be the most final obstacle life has to offer, our continued existence.
It really matters little the specific names or circumstances surrounding those who fall into the category of "one can short of a six pac", because we all have them to deal with at one time or another, in lifes course. Not of little consequence is the fact that we ourselves have been, acted, spoken, written, whether intentional, or not, in ways that have caused others pain and suffering. It is the nature of being human. You are not alone in this very shared malady.
Legacy by example is the most profound, I believe. This final farewell of yours is, at the very least, getting affairs in order. More importantly, it is a signpost reminder of how very silly, if not ridiculous; it is to carry the heavy burdens of hate and animosity.
It struck me that you so needed to express these comments to this extended group of faceless monikers. The emotion involved similar to what one would say to aggrieve familial relatives. Are we so close, are we a community of brothers and sisters?
Perhaps we are. Having lived such similar experiences, shared in the mind numbing, warped personality of considering ourselves blessed with THE TRUTH, everyone else is dead meat fit only for birds of prey to feast upon, can put a kink in anyones psyche. I have fought to expel this demon of Watchtower propaganda for over 20 yrs, yet still see its ugly face sneering back at me almost everyday. Yes we are a very tight community, whether we like it or not.
So to apply your advice regarding showing love and compassion to one another, in this forum, community, will in practice be much harder than it ever was in the enforced, sanctioned, environment of life in the congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses. We dont have the need or desire for any elders to discipline or chastise us for our deeds, good or bad. We loathe the thought of ever returning to that cesspool of mediocrity.
So dont be surprised on your recovery and return to our community, that you find things pretty much as you left it. Considering the alternative, just maybe the love and concern you advise us to display, has and always has been, here all along. It just get side tracked from time to time, mainly because one or the other of us, showed up to the party with a less than a full sixpac..
You should feel completely at peace now Jim. You have said all you can say, and it was worth the effort!

what would have happened to the soviet union if it was ruled by committee.
permanently without any gorbachev?
i think this is worth looking at with regard.
***They will suck at the teet of "Babylon the Great" willingly.***
They already have done so Refiner's. The recent UN debacle an indication of thier dishonesty.
The origin and organizational family tree of the WTBS is a 'case study' in the making, of how to build and sustain a cult.
What seems to be the key to success in this venture, is simple enough. A mix of bible quotes, with serious prophetic prouncements sprinkled in to maintain interest.......then solidify it all with a no questions asked, believe it or die, policy of enforcement.........voila! a reciepe for the 'true' religion.
Of course having a few colorful character's like Russell, Rutherford, Franz can be an asset as well.

many people claim that the god of the bible loves children and fetuses.
but what does the bible say?
according to god's law, children are not persons but the property of their fathers, who may sell them as slaves.
Sometimes I think that fellows like UnD would like to just ignore the 'old testament' and point only to Jesus words as what god really has to say.
Unfortunately whatever Jesus ('God') said while on earth, does not in any way negate or explain away, what Jesus ('God') did or said prior to his (Jesus) birth. Unless you consider that 'God' had a change of heart, maybe because of his human experience? Is that it UnD?
The web of deceit gets wider and wider, as true believers try and cover 'Gods' tracks.
Danny
maybe someone can explain to me a little about jehovah witness's.
so far, almost everything that i have heard about them is bad.
why don't they believe in christmas?
Mercedes,
Just type in 'Jehovah's Witnesses' into any search engine, and you will have all the answer's you desire.

.
how do you feel about telling people you were a jw, does it make you feel like admiting you were a flasher or some strange perv?.
i told a lady the other day who asked about what i was doing for christmas, that i used to be a jw, but i had to make sure she knew i was brought up as one by my parents , just so she didn't think it was my choice.. she thought i was very brave for leaving though.
When it comes to serious matter's like getting a Dept of Defense clearance, you may well wish you never were one of Jw's. Muddies the water so to speak!
Overcoming the above is possible, but the sheer humiliation of being so gullible, is enough for me to be very careful about revealing my history. Timing is everything.

the washingtonpost carried a very powerful article on religion in china and it's growth-- for many years there is-- no god-- has been the offical position of the state- .
many persons believe that man has an inward desire to worship, while others feel it is merely a result of the suffering of man, that he looks for something better and thruout history one of the roles of religion has always been to promise it's followers a better life for temporary suffering now.
and any quick review of the lives of folks in china clearly shows that they need a hope and religion does sell hope- as jesse jackson said: "keep hope alive".
Brother JT,
Can you take a minute in the 'library' with me? Been meaning to tell you how much I enjoyed your last talk. Your gestures and 'down to earth' expressions were very 'encouraging for the brother's and sister's'.
BUT there is ONE THING I feel must be mentioned. Your wife, has been noted by SOME in the congregation as being a little to independent. Well you know dressing so nice, having a good job, then on top of it all......actually asking questions 'directly to' the CO about his 'personal views' regarding bearing children. You know that words spoken from the platform by any elder should be above questioning, especially by the 'sister's'........perhaps a little direction from you will help her.
Also brother, you have a very jolly attitude BUT, bro Boring and sister Bored approached me about your get to gether the other nite, apparently you did not let them play 'sharades'.......they had a really great skit of 'going from door to door' that everyone would have thourghly enjoyed. They were so depressed that they could not perform, they both reported no field service time for the last two weeks!!! My advice is to invite them over again asap. Perhaps my wife and I could also attend? You know so as so make them feel more at home, maybe?
I will bring the kingdom melodies from the hall if you like?

i just went to the supermarket and came face to face with an elders wife coming out of the store,.
i was polite and said hello as im just a fader as they refer to it on this board, but im not kidding youd think she had just met hitler.... that is how she reacted to me, i left those meetings cuz of how they treated me and the lies hypocrisy lack of love on and on but being reacted to like that hurts and makes me so angry.... how the heck do you deal with it, it really affects me so much..... its realy hurtful oh well i need to realise shes not important in my life so what she thinks dont matter squatt.
hard tho isnt it?.
Gopher,
***they're just following orders from an anonymous committee***
Gopher you just crystalized an important point.
Over 6 million jw's are so mind numbed and conditioned, that they will in fact, unconditionaly accept the decision of two or three (men only) who have passed judgement on a fellow human being. Not to mention that these two or three 'window washer's) judges, took often less than an hour to summarily dispatch the 'sinner' into eternal damnation, unless he/she grovels, pleads, weeps, and displays an appropriate attitude, acceptable to them. Is it any wonder the power of being an elder is very heady?
How much more evidence does one need, to understand the sheer evil of such a system.
Danny
hello simon:.
i don't have much free time these days (and no extra energy) to post here regularly.
but i had a little time this evening and scrolled through some of the rated/archived posts.
Simon,
You may talk funny, I don't know anything about your hair, but I do know you and Ang deserve every 'thank you' received!
So here's mine!
Thanks for your extreme patience and self sacrificing attitude.
