Did Jesus Christ exist at all?

some of my comments (and that of others) on other threads have highlighted a basic differance between those of us who belieave jesus christ did exist, and those of us who recon he did not.

i belieave jesus as described in the gospells did not exist.

so i decided to start a thread that adresses this issue face on.

It is the absolutisim, the unyielding, self deluding, arrogance of 'true believer's, that helped to convince me that I could not accept ANY of the religious hogwash offered up as 'salvation' from the wrath of god. No matter the format or presentation. It is all unsubstantiated drivel.

I would far more enjoy listening to a North American Indian shaman explain the significance of the various animal heads on a totem pole, Ravyn's, Eagles, Wolves, Bears........at least the symbols actually exsist and can be seen with one's own eye's. Not to mention these totems are devoid of bigotry and intolerance. When was the last time an Indian went to war in the name of the 'Bear Spirit'??

Christianity the most pervasive, the most ardent in forcing thier view of god on other nations and tribes. Establishing missions in South America and North America that literally devasted and destroyed entire nationalities and culture.

Christians should be ashamed of thier track record.

'True believer's of Jesus, Allah, whomever should take a lesson from the Sioux.....go out to the 'Black Hills' and worship your god in true peace and serenity........you might really begin to see the true nature of GOD Almighty.

Dinner last night with our JW friends

dave and i have a nice friendship with a jw couple from our teen years.

all of us are now pushing 60 or in the 60's.

the wife is an old friend of mine from childhood, the daughter of a very well known elder in our area who passed away a few years ago, and her husband is a man we all met in our late teens, when he was studying.

Shelby is relentless, she is a hell of a woman.....but her 'politics' eheehenm suck :).

Mankind seems to trivialize God Almighty with an insatiable need to humanize him. Tribal communities deify animals that represent god. Christians continue the tradition with Jesus.

The whole Jesus 'redemption' story is a complicated mire of human conjecture and fantasy. Similar to tens of thousands of required sacrifices and mumbo jumbo ancient Isreal had to perform, just to have contact with YHWH.

Mix in enough sanctified, holy of holies, forgiveness of sins, prophetic pronouncements, end times hyperbole, you have a receipe for a religion.

It is the stuff that creates fanatics, allows men like Russell, Smith, even guys like Billy Graham to mesmerize millions with 'the words' of faith. Words that derived from man's desire for sprituality and answers to questions unanswerable.

today in thailand a man was arrested by authorities there for attempting to sell radioactive material to an undercover officer.

he had a fairly large amount of cesium 137 ... some really cool stuff.. when i worked in the nuke industry, cesium 137 was a waste by-product contained in many of the tank farms at hanford.

exposure to it can kill you.

i've noticed a lot of discontent among my jw friends.

i've had some express to me how stressed out they are because the meetings take up too much time and the assemblies are too long.

( a lot of complaining about this international assembly coming up).

I sincerely hope your right. She is a very bright and savy girl. As I told her 'I wish I had a magic wand, that could make things better' ........any parent hates to see a child in pain. I feel just as bad for her now as the time when I rushed her to the hospital when she split her forehead open in the playground. My heart aches for her.

There is reason now more than ever to be VERY CONCERNED.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's so vividly remember the 'bomb' drills, 'duck and cover', the intense fear during those times of nuclear attack. It was so palpable that people everywhere were building bomb shelters in thier back yards.

I truly believe because of the current terrorist threat, the likelyhood of a nuclear attack is a far greater possiblity today than it was back in then. When was the last time you heard an 'air raid' siren test?

We need 'air raid' siren tests now more than ever, bio chem warfare a far greater threat than any armada of bomb laden aircraft.

That is why I truly believe that Bush's war on terror, is the only practical answer to thwarting or slowing down the eventuality of attack. I hope he never back down....and escalates the effort.

Iam very worried about my daughter (jw) right now. Newly married and having a rough go financialy. She has owned her own business in the high tech field for seven years and done very well. But recent down turns in the industry have almost killed her business completely.

I think she was starting to think for herself as regards the religion, even associating with me an evil apostate scum. I can only hope that she will not attribute her temporary woes to her slackening off as a jw.

That is of course what the 'power's that be' within the cult will ascribe to her problems. Whenever anything goes the slightest off track......it has to be your fault for not 'being more active'........'personal study'......'field service'....and all that tired old horseshit.

Damn I hope she doesn't fall prey to some idiot elder or relative who gushes this nonsense.

I have shared much about my history in the org. That my mother was the personal housekeeper on Staten Island residence of JR. That my dad was his chauffer and body guard, that he was liscensed by the State of NY to carry a concealed weapon on behalf of da judge.

The memories of meeting Hayden Covington, Milton Henchel, Knorr, Franz, and other's at the highest levels are still very vivid for me. My grandfather assigned by Charles Taze himself to be a traveling rep for the society.

Not much about the history and personal insights into the personalities that invented this religion is far from my grasp. Yet it amazes me how few exjw's or even so called 'faithful' pay much heed.

Often it is easier to deal with the unknown rather than REALITY.
