i want to give my house a name.
lot's of my neighbours have already done this, so we have a plethora of name boards springing up in my road.
(actually, i susupect it's a sort of snobbery so that people will know that it's not just another old house full of flats and bedsits but a privately owned whole house).

here's my sincere question:
is there a real science of spiritual effects?
now, before you say, "nope, it's all bullsh*t", i'm convinced that a number of truly weird/psychic things have happened in my life.
There is something to the power of prayer. If nothing more it allows one to go outside of himself, formulating thoughts in a manner not usually mulled over in one's own thinking process. Kinda of like writing your fears on the paper of express spiritual mail.
Maybe just the process of expression allows the brain to more freely process and act upon the request, desire, or will ones prayer's plead for.
Imo prayer offers the supplicant a release, almost an unburdening of the minds clutter, allowing vocus on an important issue.
If God hears these supplications, it just makes the whole process seem so much more an exercise worth the effort.

.
will it be found under the fiction or non-fiction section?
Duplicitous, coniving, smarmy, two-faced, just remember her smirky face during President Bush's first state of the union address.
Those facial expressions confirmed all of the above and more for me. She showed herself in all her miserable glory.

seems its been awhile since we had one of these questions go round so i figured with all the newbies lately we shuld get a new one going.
i get to do it cause well umm errr..... i've been here for over a year (and yes noone noticed *sniff* *sniff* but thats ok).
soooo without further ado on to the question at hand..... why do you post here?.
i post here because unclebruce doesn't
our 'beloved' old faith tried to teach us to hate other religions and all things that smacked of anything that was worldly.
they demonized all things outside of their religion.. are some of us in danger of carrying that same thinking over to our new lives as former jws?
could some here at first start out as an anti-cultist but in time allow this to become a 'religion' in itself?.
DJ,
I appreciated your heartfelt response.
**** I have to tend to my children now who have been so neglected by me in all the years that it took to heal. If I thought that I could balance my posting here with caring for my family then I would stay..but I get so engrossed that I lose track of time and my chores and the people that I love the most are neglected. ****
I certainly can relate to the above, and Iam quite sure other posters here as well. It is addicting sometimes isn't it.
Thanks for your kind words regarding my daughter's. Iam happy to say that my oldest has now been communicating with me for about a year now.......she obviously has a mind of her own. Of this Iam very proud.
I wish you the best in your journies. No matter our current beliefs, we all share a very common bond. This is what attracts us here and what motivates jw lurker's to read what is said here on jwd.
Your parting comments directed to me, may in fact be just the words some jw needed to make a decision to leave the cult, and experience a little of the freedom you describe. Its grand to think so anyway, eh?
Also I would like to add this thought DJ. Do not assume that individuals like myself who confronted your opinions on the authenticty of the bible as being god's word, automaticaly means that I do not believe in God. I do believe in a creator.
Danny
i have had a recurring dream for all of 2 nights now.
it is so vivid and i am sorry when i wake up because i want to go back.. i am in a very large house, old and big like a manor house.
there are lots of wide stairways and dark wood everywhere.
Mulan,
You think your obsessing over a 'big house with dark paneling' ever hear of Sarah Winchester?

DJ,
I have been out for almost 25yrs. If it were not for my daughter's and immediate family, I would fully agree with your sentiments. With this addendum;
Because of the incidious nature of this cult, the afteraffects continue to plauge you like some sort of chemicaly induced 'flashbacks' often suffered by drug abusers.
That is why I cannot agree with IW that the watchtower is not EVIL, in every sense of the word. It matters little their intent or pureness of heart. The tenants of the cult are responsible for member deaths, family breakups, insecurity, strife of every sort.
The mafia like way of holding members life long prisoners is despicable. The tears and anxiety generated by their draconian shunning policy is in fact vile.
So you may in fact find the need to revisit this site or others like it, just to stabilize any 'flashbacks' that are inevitable.
The best to you.

what would happen if no one wanted to be an elder?
who would teach the congregation?
who would manage everything in the congregation?
Hillary has cut to the chase on this one.
Unless things have changed since I was an elder, no one would even be considered or presented to the Wts for 'rubber stamping' approval, UNLESS they were a candidate by their very actions and demeanor.
So for anyone to assert that they really did not want an appointment is denying the very process. Active field service, regular meeting attendance, appropriate jw appearance and grooming, willingness to follow instructions, which one of the above criteria could a canidate not comply and still receive an appointment? None sorry boys.
Danny
An announced appointment from the platform is to a jw male.....not only a natural progression, but a prerequisite for any kind of self worth as a practicing jw male.
when i was one of jehovah's witnesses i was absolutely sure i had the truth.
so sure i would have been willing to sacrifice anything for my beliefs.
i worked hard at study, meetings, service - even aux.
KGB,
You say,****I have learned to put my faith in Gods word the bible and not from man or a church****
Perhaps you can't see the circular reasoning involved in making the above statement.
One must assume that you believe that the bible is unquestionably the actual words of God himself. How do you go about proving that? Most who assert this belief will then use the bible itself to prove it so. You cannot do that without applying circular reasoning.
The bible is the word of god, because it says so. Not good enough for me anyway.
Having read the bible at least 4 times, there is not one iota of solid proof that any of the prophecies, pronouncements, are the very words of God. Only the surmise and conjecture of those men/women who either shared in the compilation of the book, along with those who studied the work for the next 3,000yrs.

because... the leaves of such tree... were for curing.
curing what?
had adam reached the tree and ate... he would have been cured of his sins and once again become sinless.
Shel,
I lived in San Fran for 13yrs so know the exact spot. Very common occurence in the 'tenderloin'. Although in reality that part of Market St is a region of its own in SF. Some of the world's wierdist can be found right smack in that spot.
Glad you survived the incident.
****I did hear things of a "disturbing" nature very early on. Twice. I remember once, that voice (which is NOT the same as my Lord's, but sometimes seems VERY close!) telling me to harm someone who had been causing me GREAT harm. And I was well intending to do it! And at the last moment, I heard my Lord's voice,****
Ok Shel some tough love now; If you believe that the lord Jesus Christ could be associated with anything remotely associated with what you said, YOU ARE BEING DUPED!
I don't care how many times you test the utterances, it just doesn't matter. The senario's you present are so far astray from how the Jesus of the bible was portrayed, so opposite from the simple and direct manner his life story reveals.
Why in the world would they have to play games with you Shel? What would motivate a pure and good entity to even allow you to be assaulted with "disturbing" messages?
What would happen if you all of a sudden one day realized the voice to be the 'GOOD' one, telling you to do something vile? Might you not then comply, out of sheer loyalty and trust??????
The courts of the land are full of cases involving other's like yourself who paid attention to voices, that they thought were real and good for them.........yadda yadda.
Get some immediate help. Stop the insanity. Your very life may one day depend on it.
Danny
