  Witness sayings

  as i was growing up in the troof.

  there were sayings used over and over again to control my behaviour.

  the biblical on bad associations spoil useful habits and another on just because everyone else does it doesnt mean you have to do it to, would you jump off a cliff just because other people do what were the sayings that bugged you?

  Would Ray Franz be the President of the Watchtower if........

  if the governing body arrangement had never been implemented could ray franz have become the president of the watchtower after his uncle or henschel died?.

  i believe in coc ray franz said that if knorr had been president the events of 1980 would probably not have turned out as they did.

  so do you think it is possible that by now ray franz would have been the president of the watchtower if the gb arrangement had not taken place?.

  You may be right....my memory is not what it used to be.

  I've been reading James Penton's Apocalype Deylayed and he addressed several of these issues with the early congregations/ecclesia.......but I will have to go back and reread.

  'Do not bring reproach on Jehovah and his organization'.......IOW cover yours and the orgs ass at all costs.

  'Wise use of' blah, blah, blah,.........IOW get your butt out in service

  'Make sure of all things'.......IOW wade through bound volumes, cd's, phone, write, the society before you ever decide what time 'it is appropriate' to get out of bed.

  ****Well, I think that if Ray Franz as President could have caused the Society to become a gentler place it would have meant so much less grief to so many there. As for Jaracz, if there was no GB he would not have had any authority****

  Russell saw the need for tighter control over the congregations, thus instituting the colporter/traveling representative to keep the congregations in line.

  Rutherford put a halt to the election of elders (congregation servants, overseers)in the congregations, to establish and maintain his (society) control and power.

  Knorr the consumate corp man devised the many and sundry paperwork reporting of everything from literature inventory to forms for dfing. Co's and Do's to this day, reporting to the society much like middle management of any large comercial enterpirse.

  Almost like clockwork this organization for 120yrs now,has institued procedure and policy to insure its survival.

  Iam afraid Ray's even good intentions, would have been subverted, just by the nature of the beast. To reverse the snowball effect of this 6 billion dollar enterprise would have taken more than any one mans efforts.

  in january, 1876, when he was 23 years old, russell received a copy of the herald of the morning, an adventist magazine published by nelson h. barbour of rochester, new york.

  one of the distinguishing features of barbour's group at that time was their belief that christ returned invisibly in 1874, and this concept presented in the herald captured russell's attention.

  it meant that this adventist splinter group had not remained defeated, as others had, when christ failed to appear in 1874 as adventist leaders had predicted; somehow this small group had managed to hold onto the date by affirming that the lord had indeed returned at the appointed time, only invisibly.

  Knowing the wtbs penchant for excusing any suspect conduct, Altria owning and manufacturing of Food products will suffice them with enough evidence to poo poo any misconduct.

  Expat I think the majority of their stands on issues like this are very hypocrital. They surely strain out the gnats but leave HUGE bolders of inconsistancy all over issues like these. Blood, child abuse, serving in the military etc.

  But they always seem to answer these liabilities with double speak, persausive enough to allow the rank and file to forgive and forget very quickly.

  Having worked a little with the organization on building projects, district conventions, etc. It became apparent to me, even as a devout witness, that when it comes to issues relating to money.......the application of the scriptural admonition to be 'wise as serpents and innocent as doves' is a favorite way for individuals and the corporation (gb) to abate any guilt of complicity.

  I think that sometimes we latch onto anything that at first glance appears to discredit the wts.

  This tendancy imo does little to impress the average r&f jw. They (jw's) are very apt to make very similar concessions of conscience when operating or doing business.

  Of course when confronted with blatant hypocracy(usually confessed by the transgressor), like an idividual cashier selling pack of cigs over the counter, they take a strident stand. Yet another jw worker within the samn store (bakery) can go about making a living without the slightest twinge of conscience.

  A mire of legalistic thinking, but it is what allows them to function in the world.......yet still remain with a semblance of 'being seperate'.

  i don't know why i woke up this morning with this question on my mind.

  why would god make the angels first, which are superior to humans, then go and make something inferior, like humans second.

  i would figure that the angels would be like 1.0 then the humans would be revision 2.0 or something like that.
