i: some relevant quotes from watchtower publications
1: the position of the watchtower as regards smoking

Great post.
The 'Phillip Morris Companies' have recently changed their name to 'Altria', by the way, but make no mistake: This company is into tobacco products in a HUGE way. They also own about 85% of Kraft Foods, but tobacco is King....here's a listing of their brands (from the Altria website).... [edited to add: note the comment below "The Nation's leading cigarette manufacturer"]

from another thread:.
simon is now probably britains public enemy number one in watchtower eyes.
his forum has helped so many escape from the organisation.
I fifteenth that.......

this is an interesting quote from "making your family life happy 1978" trying to explain the difference between men and women.
page 51 par 23.
"appreciate her feminine qualities".
Yes, a typical, over-simplified/mostly false generalization.
Personally, I've found author John Gray's "Mars and Venus" comments/observations/conclusions are much closer to reality. I've learned much more about how men/women interact with each other and how to improve it/appreciate the difference from John Gray then I ever did from Watchtower publications. Talk about applying stuff in my own life THAT works!
I, too see the WT pubs as unbalanced, "man-right", "woman-toe-the-line" baloney.....

i just need a place to vent.
i just broke up with my boyfriend of 12 years.
we have two kids together.
NR,
My heart goes out to you. Like many others 'round here, I've had my share of distressing life experiences, but won't go so far as to suggest I know EXACTLY how you feel, but I can tell you that I once thought my life would never ever have joy in it again, but despite my pessimism things have gotten much better, albeit very slowly.
Hang in there, post/talk here as much as you feel like it.....
There are lots of very warm-hearted nice folks 'round here who really care/try to understand.

in our local pub, we often get a visit from a young man whom i shall call terry.
quite a few posters may have come across terry at last years 'fest in weston.. terry is a nice enough lad, amiable and friendly although he does drink too much occasionally.
the thing is, terry has severe learning difficuties.
Englishman,
I went to school with a fellow who has somewhat milder disabilities than you describe, but severe nonetheless, he married a girl with seemingly (to me) disabilities.......they live independently, neither is able to drive, but I see them out all the time, and it warms my heart.......as you infer: to see them "enjoy their share of happiness".....when I see them, sometimes the thought crosses my mind that him/they have really achieved something spectacular, yet generally unrecognized.
This guy was what I think the term is "main-streamed" here in California (This was also decades ago, I being of the grey-hair class), i.e. even though it was recognized he had learning disabilities, somebody decided he'd do best when thrown in with the rest of us "normal" guys (whose quirks and problems were not so readily apparent )
Of course, the degree of disability and the support of family have got to make a difference in the potential success of such a match-up.

the last time i went out in the field service maybe 6 years ago, about 20% of doors in the territory were not to be done.
either there was a no jw sign at the door, or the person asked us to write it down in our notes not to come back, never.
i guess that percentage of doors not to be done must be higher today.
In my area, as of the time I walked away, the "Do Not Calls" were only at most a few per territory card.
I've moved three times in the 5 years or so since then, and Witnesses have called on me at home only once (about a month ago).....around here at least, "thorough territory coverage" is a figment of their imagination......And this is where their figures show the territory is worked every 4-5 weeks or so. My homes have been in average residential areas (i.e. not "gated" communities or anything of that sort).
I'm just amazed at how little I even see them out anymore. I've not been contacted in a business setting, or in "street work" either.
So my thought is what I always suspected when I was a Witness: they're way over-working some territories, while nearly completely ignoring others.
My two cents.

for the case of our own "theocratic war strategy" how many here would be willing to go back to the.
kingdom hall, put on a fake pretense of being in line with the org, try to be reinstated.
go out in service,.
Fun to muse about, but really would be a waste of time, IMHO.
The dub mindset would be to blame Satan for such a departure, and as TD mentioned, the Chairman's Office at the District Convention watches over what's presented (not many talks are "Manuscripts" by the way (word for word)....most are outlines).
"Getting through" to a sincere but mis-guided witness is a tough propostion, is it not?
I know of no external method that is sure-fire...seems to me that many of us around here had to experience something that gave us pause long enough to sit back and say "...wait a minute!!" And there-in lies the problem.

did you get made fun of when you were in school?
i'm curious to know because when i was in junior high i was constantly picked on made fun of and the butt of many jokes.
even remembering that hurts till this day.
I can't add anything much that hasn't already been said, except for:
Sometimes I made the mistake of mentioning some of the "picking-on" I got at school to my dad, and he'd berate me for not "handling it right" (not giving a good enough "witness" to the other kids), and demand that I do so-and-so the next day at school.....(e.g.: confronting the other kids, complaining to the teachers/administration; standing up for "Jehovah")....so in adddition to being picked on/belittled/criticized/ostracized at school (I was the only Witness kid for almost all my public school years), I had to take it at home, too. No, he never once understood how very hard it was to be different.
I dealt with it by "stretching" to my dad and by trying to remember to keep stuff to myself...... Then, too I dealt with it by resolving NEVER TO HAVE A KID who would have to go through what I went through..........
Like Minimus asked in recent thread: "Were you screwed up by being a Witness?"....Answer: YES
Lurkers note: Even though it's been decades since these events, I can still remember it like it was yesterday. And before you start thinking I never "made the truth my own", read my bio sketch (click on my name).

i asked them about the child molestation issue, & they just gave me the same old rap about "we're not discouraged from going to the police, blah, blah blah.
i said, fine, for the last 6mo.
besides i did'nt ask about that, i asked why mandatory reporters are not reporting.
Avishai,
What's the latest on us seeing the video???
Can't wait
