The Caring Elders
by cantleave ini would be interested in your opinion of the following:.
a friend told me about an incident that had happened in a neighbouring congregation.
she told me that a sister from the congregation needed to get back to work after a meeting but discovered that she was boxed in.

Emailed Talk From Governing Body Member Last Weekend
by tryingtoexit inwhat's good a-ebody??
just thought i'd share this email with yall real quick.
it still amazes me that i was a jehovah's witness for 27 years and never thought twice about these types of talks other than i need to make sure my act is together when the end comes, and now i can't even read/hear it without getting mad.

I (and many others) foresaw that they would use the new 'family study night' as a big stick to beat the living s**t out of each other. Isn't it sad that they fulfill everyones expectations so predictably?
As for the 'burning bodies' bit. All I can say is - CULT.
The fearmongering that goes on among the 'happy people' really is astounding.
Lets talk about evrey conceivable depressing thing under the sun! Dying, the recession, what you're not doing in the truth, the graphic end of world content. Sheeesh! No wonder they are so misderable & depressed.

Jehovahs Witnesses have no reason to be happy.
One of the reasons I left was due to the overwhelmingly negaitive outlook of everyone that was my friend at the time. It's like they are addicted to misery. I began to see that this was how my non-jw family viewed me. As a really downbeat, negative person.
4 years later, I have had to stop my small children from attending the meetings because one of my kids (7) went on a rant about all sorts of stuff that simply shouldn't be on anyones mind, never mind a 7 year old. I'm hoping that I have saved her mental outlook from being damaged in years to come.
The Good news? Pffft. You can shove it right up your arse!

New "apostate" here! Recent WT study- 'We may ask you to do something that may not understand' (basically- DO IT)
by 20+wastedYRS ini will get to the big shocker that i read within the last year or two in a wt study article, so please bear with me... i am new to this forum and have been reading postings for several days now, and can relate totally to many of the issues that many ex-jw have.
i was raised "around" the truth and although my parents were never "dipped", they wouldn't allow us to celebrate holidays or stand for natl anthem (not that i care now).
so i basically had many of the pressures and stress that witness kids had growing up, but with no spiritual support, as we attended only a handful of meetings while my parents studied when i was 5or6.

Welcome mate.
I know a family that raised children as JW's although the parents never dedicated. An awfly confusing situation for the kids, in addition to other family problems. As adults, all of these 'kids' have problems, mental or otherwise. It has occured to me that those raised in the organisation don't have the same ability to free themselves easily. There seems to be a lot more hanging on to the notion that it still might be 'the truth'. This obviously leaves people in a bit of a limbo situation.
I'm glad you have chosen to break free. Always take in lots of information about the org and it's history. Remember, information (the truth) is what the WTS would like to hide. They do a good job of it as well. F**k them. Learn & grow.

How is your life affected by the Jehovah's Witness religion now?
by jambon1 inwhether you are new 'out' of the org or you have been out for a number of years, how does the org affect your life at the moment?.
how do you feel about the way the religion influences your life at the moment, even in the smallest ways?.
thanks.. please state how long you have been away from the religion if possible.. .

Same here mate. I go to the point of thinking I will never bring anything up in conversation - so I don't.
But after months of bottling stuff up, it ends in an argument,........again (old ground).
It's hard.
Got my kids away from the meetings though so I'm pleased about that.
It had to happen.

The 'other sheep' - Isn't it so obvious that Jesus is talking about gentiles?
by jambon1 inam i being silly or do some other religions have a different understanding of who the 'other sheep' are?.
when i was a jw, i could see so clearly that this group is the gentiles.
that is, of course, reading the text 'in context', rather than simply placing it in a flakey jw leaflet.. why can jehovahs witnesses not see that they are so wrong on this point?.

I read this letter and hang my head in dismay.
It was getting to know the sort of ins & outs of congregation matters that really made me want to leave the organisation & I was only a m/s.
Im not a believer, but how does any of this letter resemble true christianty?
The 'special blue envelope?' FFS. I have to laugh.
Really. What a joke.

Jehovah's Witnesses simply go 'against the grain' in so many areas
by jambon1 inhaving grown up in 'the word' in a very loving and normal family, certain aspects of the truth never really sat right with me.
as an impressionable 17 year old, the things i was learning during my study seemed bizarre & in many ways, just not right.
but i swallowed it all eventually.

- Jesus sacrifice didn't seem like a sacrifice to me
explain more, this is interesting
I agree with this, if you believe the story they way he died was horrible, but what was 30 or so hours of pain in comparison to then going to heaven for eternity and being next to god? He didn't really die, so yea, where was the sacrifice? A soldier that jumps on a hand grenade to save a few of his friends makes an infinitely bigger sacrifice.
_______________________________________________
The above answers my point on this perfectly.
PS - the opening sentance was supposed to read Having grown up in 'the world' in a very loving and normal family, certain aspects of the truth never really sat right with me.
I wasn't brought up in the org.
