It's quite a fact that if you treat your kids like that then you're not worth shit as a person, never mind a parent.
Im glad they're ramping up this fucking shit in recent times because it'll turn the heads of any normal person.
Vile.
well.....they showed that shunning video again.
you know...the one where goldilocks gets disfellowshipped- and the parents look across the hall at her with disdain.....yeah that video.. i was interested to see what kind of answers would be given during the discussion after the video and some of the reactions.
everyone sat there gormlessly staring at the video.

what are your convictions now that you are no longer one of jehovah's witnesses?
are you a born again christian?
have you joined another denomination of christianity?
I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.....
yes folks.
over the past few days i can honestly say the convention was relatively quite good.
most of the talks, videos, symposiums were in line with scripture if you have faith in the bible.
Sorry if it's off topic but here's what some feel about the 'non hard line' convention this year.
so i call my grandfather who has been inactive for several decades and he's at vacation in puerto rico.
the conversation is normal, we talk about how he's doing down there and how i am doing.
then he tells me that my cousin who i haven't seen in 5 years, is with him and asks if i would like to speak to him; i said yes.
Great to hear of people breaking up bad ideas. Can't imagine how hard it is to be ignored. So cruel. Well done you.

Through the eyes of a child I'm pretty sure it's at least frightening and it engenders the aspect of fear/death that witnesses like to promote. Not good.
I disagree with your assessment on witnesses homophobia. They'll never publicly accept the lifestyle in any way. Even if what you suggest happens, it still does little for those who will forever be assured that they cannot 'cone out' and be accepted by their family.
You can dress these things up all you like. The fact is that witnesses are scaremongering homophobes and I don't accept that the material mentioned above is not 'hard line'.

I'm interested why slimboyfat can interpret the convention as 'not being too hard line' when they've produced blatant homophobic material and what will be arguably terrifying footage for children of a woman being turned into a pilar of salt for disobeying god.
This was the sort of material that would have my young daughter having to entertain nightmarish dilemmas about her unbelieving families.
In addition, I'm sure those young kids in the audience (or even adults) will be delighted to know that their natural state of being homosexual is yet again frowned upon/considered immoral by their entire social network. That'll really help their emotional advancement into adulthood no end.
Its sick in the mind and if this sort of thing is now passing for being reasonable material then it shows desensitised to their cruelty one can become if exposed to it enough*.
* excluding children whom it quite clearly profoundly affects in a negative sense.
well i have to give credit where credit is due.
it was the part of today's symposium - build a house that will endure.
the part i was most impressed with was 'safeguard your children from "what is evil".
I don't really care for their belated, sniffeling 'improvements'. None of these have came off their own back and frankly, after the ARC, if they cared at all about ssfeguarding children then they'd have inplimented the suggested changes immediately. But they haven't and never will. Mainly because they're proud and rigidly stuck in their ridiculous ideology.
If things improve and less children are harmed then fair enough but I can't see it. They'd have to get rid of the two witness rule. And they won't.
i mailed the below letter to my mother a few weeks ago.
i did share it on the ex-jw facebook group but thought i'd post it here.. basically, she's shunned me since day 1, has little or nothing to do with my 3yo daughter and told my sister "i hope <my daughter> becomes a jw when she's older so i can welcome her into the family".
well, that was the last straw for me..
I'm quite emotional over stuff like this anyway but I can feel a lot of pain in that letter. I cant endorse reverse shunning enough as I feel that it's effective, cathartic but most of all the right moral thing to do.
Your letter was overall lovely. An appeal. A plea. But a definate line drawn in the sand of what you expect in human relationships. Well done.
episode 5 of the podcast is now up.
i will take you into the fog, tell you what it means, and explain it in the context of the jw culture.
i also use another known cult model and show how it applies, along with some of my own stories thrown in.. http://thisjwlife.com/episode-5-enter-the-fog-the-culture-of-jehovahs-witnesses/.
I've read that poem before.
Basically implies that all 'worldly guys' are controlling, wife beating, AIDS ridden bastards.
The laugh being that there's so many JW elders who are known to beat their wives, children and end up smiling away while giving public talks.
Creepy, creepy religion that is so out of touch with reality it's frightening.

Well done again. A neat explanation of FOG.
The part about your grandfathers watch was both infuriating and very sad. As a sentimental person, this is really sad. It would've been lovely for you to have had that. Such madness!
