"10:40 Cultivate What You Have Planted"
I can imagine this one - these were the assembly parts that I dreaded the most. An hour lecture about following up on any interest you may have found, when you know that 99.9% of the time they took your magazines just to get you off their porch and that they likely went straight to the trash can.

Wrecking of United States of America
by BurnTheShips ini am almost shaking as i write this for what is happening to the capital markets, this country, and the free world.
the impact of the past two weeks' action in the financial markets, if not reversed by cooler heads, will have irreparably changed the world in a way that only terrorist attacks and acts of war have in the past.. .
nationalizing fannie mae and freddie mac, providing an emergency quasi-legal bridge loan to aig, temporarily banning short-selling on all stocks in the us, and instituting an rtc-type entity to handle the toxic waste of the financial system is economic violence on a grand scale.. .

Makes you wonder if either Obama or McCain have any idea of the magnitude of the mess they would be inheriting.
I really don't understand much of this - federal reserves, fiat currency, Keynesian economics, Greenspan-as-Satan, etc. etc. - it's all way over my widdle head. I just have a vague feeling that our leaders are trying to pat me on the head and tell me that everything's gonna be ok while meanwhile the ship sinks ever lower. I guess that's their job, to keep confidence and optimism afloat, but the methods they're using to do so seem like a massive shell game to hide the truth. There's gotta be a tipping point somewhere where people lose faith, and then it's all over. It already may be. -

Leolaia, apparently the Death Magnetic tracks that you can download for Guitar Hero are much less compressed -

I don't know much about P2P and torrenting, but if the GH versions are available via these methods and become the default versions that fans have on their computers, then maybe this will be what turns the tide in the "Loudness War".

"Life Begins at Rape"- Palin Policy
by SixofNine ini suppose that when most of us who are fortunate not to have been the victim of sexual assault hear the word "rape kit", we tend to think of it specifically in terms of forensic analysis and examination--dna collection, trauma, that whole sort of thing.
but rape kits also contain...emergency contraception.. .
to quote from an alaska blogger who has provided a firsthand account of the aftermath of a sexual assault in wasilla: .

"Dawg, that interview proves only that she opposes abortion as a form of birth control. The fact that she does allow for emergency abortions in extreme cases is proof that she is not an unbendable "religious fanatic" on the subject."
I guess it's a matter of perception, but in my book a woman who objects to morning-after pills being accessible for rape victims is every bit an unbendable religious fanatic on the subject.Sarah says, apparently trying to sound open-minded: "Please understand me on this. I do understand McCain's position on this. I do understand others who are very passionate about this issue who have a differing point of view"
Oh, ok...but it's BibleGod's point of view we should be concerned with, right Sarah? We should stop worrying about our own points of view and get our hearts right with god, right?

A friend of mine at work lent me his ipod for a few the other morning so I could check it out. I too was impressed. One of the things that I *hated* about the Bob Rock-produced albums was that they made James' vocals way too prominent in the mix. DM is closer to the sound of their earlier albums, with James voice as part of the music, not the central element.
They should do a nice long tour, be glad that they managed to put out a decent album after the horrid St. Anger, and call it a day. James/Lars/Kirk aren't ever going to catch lightning in a bottle again the way they did 1983-1987. -

Dog to its Vomit
by Sparkplug ini know as a jw growing up, i would hear so much about how if you were of the"world" and came out of it...that you were like a dog returning to its vomit.
the other day, i heard of a friend of mine that went back to the borg.
actually over the past few months, i have heard of a few.

Leaving JW's can and often does result in a rather lonely existence, and sometimes it's too much to take. I get by because I'm a bit of a loner by nature. Even when I was a JW, I cherished my non-meeting nights so i could have some time away from people - I need lots of that. But, with your friend, the loneliness may trump the open eyes and toughness.
I feel sad for your friend. We leave JW's thinking 'blue skies ahead', not taking into account the harsh realities of life on earth and the ephemeral nature of our existence. But once you've seen what complete baloney da twoof is, it's a psychological suicide to go back. -

"NO EVIDENCE" for God, and creation? Maybe there is . .
by hooberus inatheists (however one defines the term) frequently use the term "no evidence" in relation to the existence of god, any type of creation, (especially genesis creation and flood), or most any other theistic claim.
they almost always however claim that their beliefs are "backed by evidence" ; "overwhelming evidence" etc, etc, etc, etc, repeat, etc, repeat, etc.. (their beliefs generally tend to include whatever is necessary to believe in to intellectually "explain" the world without needing god).
is there really "no evidence" for god, and creation?
-
DanTheMan
So, you provide a link to an article that purports to present the supposed insurmountable odds against the formation of amino acids or whatever in order to bolster your creationist claims. Then, when I ask about the odds of a creator existing, the response I get amounts to, 'my dogmatic beliefs means that I don't have to address this.' Okay. Neener neener neener to you too.
So lame. *shakes head*

There are numerous resources that can be listed here. For demonstration sake the following is a simplified calculation of specifiying 1/2 of the amino acid sites to obatain a single functional protein. http://www.globalflood.org/papers/insixdays.html.
So how does the existence of a "God" that did all these things resolve the "incredible odds" issues raised in the article?
What are the odds that a superhuman being could have somehow come into existence and using methods unknown brought forth matter and organized it into what we observe now? How would you calculate these odds? And why would this be a more simple, palatable, odds-friendly explanation?
