One of the last times I went to the KH, the prayer was about to start and an old "sister" grabbed hold of my hand. I realized I was in a row where everyone was holding hands. I didn't like it. Am I the only one who feels like this?

What's the point of all those presents?
by penny2 inyes, i know i was brought up as a jw so my view is probably distorted.
but why as an adult, would you want to receive gifts that you neither need nor want from people who cant really afford to give them?.
i love xmas from the point of view of spending a whole day eating, talking and a little drinking with loved ones.

Did over 25 cards last year..did 0 cards this year. No one seems to have noticed.
Less people seem to do cards these days.

Just to have a tradition that the whole family could agree on would be a wonderful thing.
Beks, it's lovely that the kids like to spend time with their grandma - I've sure that means a lot to her.
This year Rocco flew across the house and landed on the dining room table while we had Christmas dinner.
Rocco obviously likes to be included in things and maybe wanted first taste of the rum. You weren't serving chook or turkey, were you?

I prefer to just get together with a couple of friends and have a nice dinner.
Finally-Free, I'm glad someone else feels the same as I do. Do you wanna have dinner sometime?

Gift giving becomes confusing when there are JWs, ex JWs and never been JWs in the family. If the JWs give the non-JWs in the family a gift and there's no tradition attached to it, the non-JWs wonder what's going on. Then they find out they can't give the JWs a gift for xmas or birthdays and confusion sets in big time.
Sometimes it's easier to do nothing.

Thank you for your comments.
This year I went for monogrammed items for the adults - scarves with initials for my daughters - made by hand and my daughter said to make pillows for the grandchildren so they got pillows tailored to their likes - a monogrammed 4-ft long green pillow for the teen and dinosaur and cat pillows for the 4 and 5 yr olds.
Lady Lee, that would be wonderful to receive presents like that (and a lot of fun to think up the ideas and then make them).
Satanus, I did actually receive a gift. I have an ex-JW relative who is into xmas in a big way and he includes me in their family celebrations which I enjoy.
I take it that you don't like receiving gifts.
blondie, I am struggling with the thought that you may have a point. Sounds strange and I'm trying to get my head around it.

Yes, I know I was brought up as a JW so my view is probably distorted. But why as an adult, would you want to receive gifts that you neither need nor want from people who can’t really afford to give them?
I love xmas from the point of view of spending a whole day eating, talking and a little drinking with loved ones. Catching up with people you may not have seen for a while.
But to feel obligated to give everyone a present just seems a little crazy. Children – yes, that’s fun. But adults? It’s got me stumped.

Thank you for your kind expressions on the death of my Hubby
by Gram inthanks so much for all of you who wrote on the death of my husband.
i truly appreciated each and every one and it gave me great comfort.
great comfort coming from people who have the same background as i and have come to a place wherever that may be, where they are now.

Dear Gram, sorry for your loss. I didn't see your original thread.
I have the same belief about death. As a JW, I thought that would be unbearable but I've come to terms with my new belief. It has made me treasure life more.

Cranberry Margaritas
by Gram insomething different and fun for the holidays -- make a margarita with your favorite tequila, orange liquor, canned whole cranberries, fresh lemon and/or lime, cranberry juice cocktail -- blend, add ice, adjust ingreds.
for taste and alcohol.
if you have a problem with the little blended seeds and pulp, you can use regular cran.
