Jeannie, that's so sad...
Thanks everyone for your insights. Sounds like they have relaxed somewhat but maybe the high profile JWs are more aware of it.
all jw memorial services i've been to have been similar.
a couple of sentences about the deceased and then it's all about the religion.
very impersonal and scripted.

All JW memorial services I've been to have been similar. A couple of sentences about the deceased and then it's all about the religion. Very impersonal and scripted. No room for eulogies or slide shows or anything remotely different.
A very well known JW died recently in New South Wales (Australia) - they had the works. Eulogies, slides, drinks and refreshments in the kingdom hall afterwards. They even had a linkup to a kingdom hall in another State. It was all about him and not much was said about the "hope for the future." I questioned this with some JW relatives and they said they've got all the facilities now to do slide shows. Everything is a lot more sophisticated and how much better that is. And why wouldn't you do eulogies - there's never been a law against it. They gave examples of other recent memorial services which were similarly relaxed and much more normal.
Is this generally what's happening all over the world or is it just in Australia?

Welcome Sherry and Pickler, hope you were still young when you got out. Nice to have some more Aussies on board.

we had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.
Hi again Winston. Sister T is a very privileged lady having you to reason with her. I hope she "gets it" one of these days.
You must be looking forward to a time when this kind of discussion is a thing of the past and you're free to pursue your interests with abandon!

our friend, oompa, has passed away.
just recieved the news a couple of hours ago, and have almost no details.
it happened today or yesterday, he took his own life.
So sorry Oompa....
it's already being advertised on the station - it will be shown on wednesday, 25th may at 10.05pm..
I wonder how the real Tabitha is going now?
I'd like to know too. That must have been so hard to go through at 17. There was so much going on in the family apart from her story. I love it the way so many aspects of being a JW were highlighted in the film.
I'm going to watch it again, maybe today (have got a day off).

Wow, that's all I can say right now.

Starting in just over an hour (well for me anyway, I'm in South Australia). I've worked out how to record on my playstation so I'll have a copy.
