I think it's a perfectly fine idea. Imagine when you're 90, looking back, "wow, that's how I used to look."

PS: Finally-Free, I wish you hadn't posted that!
please, please, please don't make this thread go bad.
i have a fairly serious but gently light-hearted question.. i am on my out the door to meet a friend for consultion with a surgeon who specializes in breast surgery.
the reason for the consultation is that breast mri and biopsy shows possible cancerous lesions.
I think it's a perfectly fine idea. Imagine when you're 90, looking back, "wow, that's how I used to look."

quick bio: born-in, third gen jw, devout family, dad an elder/po, mom pioneered off/on, baptized at age 10 (my elder dad asked me to wait but i didnt), had overall good childhood, toured bethel, aux pio off/on, finished hs early, reg pio for a year then pio school, met amazing jw girl (also third gen devout), spent a year in community college (paid for by fairly conservative jw parents), got a good job, married amazing jw girl, appointed as ms, delivered public talks and parts on ca/dc, wife and i had first child.
it was a near-storybook jw life (except no bethel).
i had a couple of normal issues in teenage years, but sought the assistance from the elders and ironed it out.
Thanks for sharing your story with us. How wonderful that your wife finally saw the light.

i just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have shared in my recovery.

we bought land!.
some of you might remember a delema i had a couple of months ago over buying a house... and gave lots of great advice.. well, we ended up buying a large block of land (modern developers would cram 8 houses on it) one hour outside the city in a really nice little town of only 250 people.
the block has an 1860 ruin on it that looks like an old school or church.
Aussie, challenging but hopefully enjoyable. Is it any closer to your kids?

i've got my fair share of things that irritate me to no end regarding this religion.
however, i have to be fair.
i got up this morning, and for some reason i didnt feel overwhelmingly negative about what i was getting ready to do.
Yes, at the time I thought I was doing a "life saving work" because the end was going to come soon.
I also felt a sense of belonging being out with other JWs. I enjoyed talking with complete strangers and I took pride in never upsetting anyone (as soon as someone said they were not interested I politely left).
When I started doubting "the truth", it became more difficult.

does it appear that the feb 15, 2008 was setting jws for a future generation change?.
can we calculate the length of this generation?.
the word generation usually refers to people of various ages whose lives overlap during a particular time period or event.
In simple terms, it boils down to this.
In the 1960s and early 70s the WTS taught that “the end” would likely come around 1975 (refer “Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God” page 35 plus numerous other references in publications of that time).
When the end didn’t come in 1975, they said, “Hey, we got it a bit wrong but the end is still coming any day now.” Scriptures such as Matt 24:34, “…this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur,” were used as proof that it would come within the literal generation that saw 1914.
By 1995, it became obvious that people who saw the events of 1914 were dying out.
Since 1995, they have continued to adjust their definition of the term “generation” to support their claims that “the end” is coming any day now.
They could have done themselves a favour by leaving it alone after 1995. In perpetuating the discussion, they highlight their own preoccupation with "the end." It's a motivating force amongst Jehovah's Witnesses.

Congratulations Aussie. It's a great feeling to buy some real estate.

everyone listen up if you still have your" reasoning from the scriptures" book get them out turn to page 234 and read the last sentence in the definition.
where it says: the generation who was alive in 1914 would be the generation to see the end.
then turn to page 242 on the top of the page where they say it's not gonna be another generation to experience this.
There is a lot in the Reasoning book which doesn't add up with "current light." For example, the chapter on Blood (p71) - "Similarly, any food to which whole blood or even some blood fraction has been added should not be eaten." Yet, they will accept some transfused blood fractions now.
well, some of you know that i have a 16 year old son who lives with his jw mother.
she has already mastered the art of guilt control on him.
i am most anxious that he not get baptized at all or at least unless he has really understood the whole truth, not just the watchtower truth.
"worldly" girlfriend??
I don't think he'll be doing the mikes for much longer.
having been out of the organisation for over 4 years and having finally released my kids from the hellish existance that is life as a jw, it struck me today how enjoyable our weekends are in comparison to when we were jw's.. the weekends are vital for us just now.
my wife doesn't work but i work full time from very early in the morning.
i don't get to see my beutiful children in the morning during the week.
my only prayer for your children is that you do the right thing and bring them in the true faith
You had me worried there for a minute, besty....
