Terri, what a great idea! There must be so many ex-JWs in England. Unfortunately I'm in Australia so it's a bit far, but best of luck with this event!

i have been talking to steve hassan who is the author of 'combatting cult mind control" about coming to london for a 3 day event in autumn 2009. initially the idea was to make it all about jehovah's witnesses and support for those having left the religion and leaving their jw issues behind them.
we may make this an event for ex-cult members in general, but there will be a big section specifically catering to the issues surrounding the jw organisation, leaving it and life after it.
the cost of steve being there and flying to london; will be shared amongst those attending, so there will be a ticket price for the event, which i will figure out later when i've got an idea of how many will be likely to attend.. .

will you be joining another forum or leaving it all behind?.
i took to heart simon's thread about moving on past the "ex-jw" phase and i've been spending less time at the computer.
it's comforting though, to come back on here occasionally and see how my cyber friends are doing.. so i'm glad there are options - i've noticed some familiar faces on new forums - there may be access to jwd in some form..... .....and there's a whole world out there!.
So I won't be leaving anything behind just yet due to my friends and family.
Most of my immediate family are still JWs. It's really good to come here when I'm frustrated with their attitudes and inability to see the obvious.
I have been out for three years, and pretty much have an entire new life now. It's time to let go...
done4good, you've done well!

regarding penny2 post about sept 1 wt comments:.
what will be the "end afterward"?.
young people are often exposed to temptations and pressures to experiment with things that seem popular.
She must be a bit of an independent thinker to take a position like this.
In any case, anti-education comments must be embarrassing to her. Maybe she doesn't read the mags. Lots of JWs don't.

This is probably an example of why there's one Watchtower for the public
and another for "Personal Study".
Get this, these comments were in a public edition!!
okay, so i've had these people cutting my grass for about the last 4 or 5 months.
we hired them because they were cutting a nearby neighbor's grass and ours needed it.
i told my mom about them and when i mentioned their name, she says "oh, they go to ....hall".
Phew, getting rid of those gardeners was a good move!
my wife accused me of putting sleeping pills in her tea so i could turn her best friend against her???
she says everyone at work is against her so one saturday she quit and went to another city {her mums}sydney to start a new life.....she found it to be alot more expensive so she asked me if she could come back.
i told her it's half her house and she can come and go as she wants.....then she asked me to buy her a plane ticket back since she blew her last paycheck {$900} on clothes and laser hair removal.
Sorry that your wife's stay with her mother was so short. When you posted that in another thread, I thought at least you would have a break.
Have you spoken to the MIL to see what she thinks?

Thanks for the link, Tenebreux. Interesting. I'm glad the ridiculous and damaging views of the WTS are being discussed outside of the ex-JW community.

No mention of education is made in the actual article. They've got the brainwashing down to a tee - the relevant comments are in bold print, there's colour in the background along with a couple of pictures. One of a neat, good looking young man being counselled by an older person in a suit. The young man is looking remorseful. I'd hate to think what he's been up to!

people who learn to think for themselves....
independent, you're right. I believe most who go to uni end up leaving the JWs.
Number1, I thought it might have been on here before but I couldn't find it to make a comment. Plus I got so annoyed, it was a bit of therapy to type it out.
VM44, I've seen it on TV but won't be trying it myself!
Thanks for your comments.
